The .nfo file mentions
"Can be made to use your own 3d models. Simply make .x file and call it
"screensaver.x"."

What is a .x file when its at home any help please?

This is a nice gimmick would be great if i can convert 3ds files to .x files ?

OK i tried with a very basic .x model i found on the net,  and too had no joy,  the standard Ava Logo appears,  the only thing i could say which i did notice was that I could NOT delete the  screensaver.x file from my C partition as though it was being used in some way (this was via Ftp not filemanager),   as soon as i disabled the screensaver and restarted the box i could delete the file..  Dont know if this info is of any use but thought i`d post

Thanks for the all the info. I've tried creating the model using the sdk and the 3dsconv.exe tool and the results are the same, it only shows the ava logo. Granted its a nice logo but I can think of a couple of things I'd rather see. I'm assuming they'll release more info later?

The ava cache is on the Z partition. Try deleting your current screensaver3d.x from there and rebooting ava.

Also people check this program out

oh hey i got it work for me but i sux at 3d modeling so its just a sphere... lol but Jbone told me to use "Pandasoft Directx exporter" (plugin for 3ds max) and it works great... for a hint dont make it very big as it would be huge and uncheck anamation in the export settings

heres another one
http://www.arcb31.ds...com/avalaunch.x
a nice Supra
http://www.arcb31.ds...pex.com/supra.x

The size in comparison to the one originally in the cache is much bigger,  but still seems to work fine...   Once i get me head round this i will reduce size..

Be nice in the future if you could download models to the box as we do skins and also being able to select which model we want..maybe even a Random saver ??

didn't know this feature would get looked at any much, so it's not _really_ tested well. It was one of those "hey it works, cool" and we never looked back at it.
It's quite basic, the logo itself is stored inside the xbe, but it is actually a .x file as well. But before loading it , it checks for an optional x file iirc.  It doesn't look twice at textures, but it might need normals, dont really recall.

Someone should contact allxboxskins and ask them to make an appropiate section for the X files. smile.gif

We host them.. so it's the same as if we had them direct.. except they already have a good layout system for hosting and displaying thumbnails etc.

If I put them on the Z drive, it gets cleared every reboot.  Where do I put the .x file so it stays.  Also, I have one 3DS model that seems almost transparent.  Whats the best material to use so it seems as shinny as the Avalaunch one?

well i got mingwingming's to work fine by just copying the over the one in the cache (FTPing with Evox because ava won't let you overwrite cache).

But i seem to be having a problem with converting 3ds files to x files with conv3ds. Seems its just turning out jibberish when viewed in notepad.

Here is a sample from one mingwingming's that is tested to work:
CODE
xof 0303txt 0032

# This file was written by MeshX - V2.3

template VertexDuplicationIndices {

DWORD nIndices;
DWORD nOriginalVertices;
array DWORD indices[nIndices];
}

template FVFData {

DWORD nDWords;
array DWORD data[nDWords];
}

Mesh {
14472;
-4.138396;2.697573;1.845294;,
-4.094742;3.353350;1.735947;,
-4.591203;3.301714;1.357430;,
-4.664248;2.684586;1.436373;,
-0.973717;-3.890253;-3.429512;,
-1.543223;-3.809617;-3.759078;,
-1.203622;-3.747135;-4.281746;,
-0.647640;-3.819351;-4.002312;,
-1.950014;2.457294;-4.242982;,
-1.868656;3.114882;-4.222680;,
-1.488375;3.058600;-4.717285;,

And it just goes on like that

Now here is a sample from the conv3ds.exe:
CODE
xof 0302bin 0032    Header
                   Material    x3ds_mat_HANGGL1_Smooth_
   ¡  =º¹9?      €?  pA                             Material    x3ds_mat_HANGGL1_Smoot9

         €?ïîn?  €?  pA                             Material    x3ds_mat_HANGGL1_Smoot7
   þý}?  €?      €?  pA                             Material    x3ds_mat_HANGGL1_Smoot6

and it goes into more jibberish.

Help please?

file snippet #1 is a text version of a .x format (it's header... xof 0303txt ) - file snippet #2 is a binary format .x file (it's header... xof 0302bin ) - difference is YOU won't be able to read the binary one wink.gif the Xbox will do just fine with it though - so far i have had no problems using text, binary, or binary compressed formats - even mixing and matching - so keep working on your .x files cuz we're gonna give you plently to do with them smile.gif

Thought some of you might like this skull.x file it looks pretty sweet with the new dash/reflections..

http://www.arcb31.ds...pex.com/skull.X

Edit: For those that dont know, in Ava 0.49.1 the file should now be renamed to screensaver.X  and placed in the Media/Skins/default   folder

Just place it in Media/skin/default   and rename to  screensaver.x

Make sure the screensaver is not running when you first install as you will have grief , disable upload the file then enable screensaver

JohnSlayer sorry dude im no 3d artist im affraid, just grabbed this file of a friend and enlarged to suit Avadash.. I will ask him if he has the time to add some swords for you though..

Killazin corp if its the new version of Ava 0.49.1  the file goes in Media/Skins/default  and rename to  screensaver.x

if its the older version put in the Z cache and rename to screensaver3d.x

And remember to turn of the screensaver while you are uploading or you will have grief, once uploaded then enable the screensaver..

Picture here.

Alright.. top right box is the "Front" view.

I drew a box around where the TV view should end up being.

What you do is load in whatever models you want.. then shrink them until the size grids lines don't get any smaller. Like zoom in as far as you can until new grids stop appearing.

Then make sure your stuff fits insides what I drew. You can also see in the other views it should be centered pretty much.. if you don't want it rotating weird.

Hope this helps. Ask if you have any more questins.

and the needed sdk for the plug-in

Not sure if there is anyone out there like me that prefers Maya over 3DS, but these links will help a lot.
