You're lucky to have got that far. Because I have an SLi system vista doesn't even run it unless I remove one of my 7800s.
-
check you routers uPnP settings and make sure that are fully communicating as that was the problem with my Netgear routerwith a wireless setup, 360 and Xp MCE.
Hope you have better luck

Im having the same problem. My vista beta 2 PC can see the xbox360, My xbox360 acts like it can see the computer (waits for you to setup the PC with the code then launches). But it always just sits on the black loading screen and then says it cant find the media center PC, please check to make sure it is connected to the network.
My router hase the upnp settings enabled but that didn't fix it.

Vista was working for me but then I decided to move all my music from my original Xbox to my computer shared music folder. Now I get stuck at the contacting screen as well.

Try deleting disconnecting and deleting software from the 360. On xp go to control panel, administrative tools, services...
IN THIS ORDER:
Set Terminal Services to automatic then click start
Set fast user switching to automatic then click start
REBOOT BOTH MACHINES
Go to media center on your 360
Reinstall extender software on xp from xbox.com/pcsetup.
Cross your fingers and it should work.
