Post by: twistedsymphony on April 30, 2005, 04:13:00 PM
There's all sorts of posts on all sorts of potential next gen games... so I poked through a few pages here and google and started a list. I've tried to use official sources (meaning the company that makes the game) or secondary sources cited by the official sources.

First off, THIS IS WHAT XNA IS: XNA Website

Here is the list so far... please post any new game news/ pic links etc and I'll add it to this post every day or so...

I think weve discussed this b4, but theres no way that those Burnout pics can be on xbox 2. Xbox, yes, and the game is supposedly a launch title so it had better be further along than that graphically.

I'm tying to make this more than just a screen shots thread... yeah the Burnout link has pics that are probably from current gen but the game is also said to be coming out for a "next gen console"

no titles have been officially scheduled for Xbox360 just "a next gen console"
but the ones I've listed have all been rumored for the Xbox360

Mythos: The Demon Hunters -

our prototype will be finished soon, then we will announce which platform it will be on.  it is still TBD within the dev team, but we are seriously considering the x360.

Avalon Automotive Combat

Wow, that sounds extremely gay.  But at the same time, freakin' awesome...

The only thing I can think of that sounds remotely like that is Twisted Metal which was extremely weird, but surprisingly fun.  If I had a PSP, I would make Twisted Metal my first game....

Actually my all time favorite Automotive combat game was Interstate '76 for the PC (the sequel was Interstate '82 I believe, but it wasn't as good)... those games kicked total ASS  beerchug.gif

TM2 was awesome but I like the Battle mode in San Fran 2049 much better... it's so stupidly simple and fun... not to mention it's much better with 4 players instead of just 2 with a bunch of bots  dry.gif

There were some other Automotive combat games, I remember I had Vigilante 8 for my Dreamcast... and though I've never played it what about Carmageddon?

That also depends on how far you want to take the genre... is it any game with weapons? if so then there is a lot more, games like WipeOut. I think the best definition would be weapons with an arena... but that still includes games like Mario Kart  laugh.gif
Title: Next Gen Games, Info & Screenshots
Post by: twistedsymphony on May 05, 2005, 09:53:00 AM
you ever play I76 though? it might be worth pulling out of a PC Game bargain bin for $5  laugh.gif

you could choose from a slue of 70s and older cars including things like campers and school busses then you could setup all your armor and choose your own weapons... where to mount them on your car etc. It was about as customizable as one of the Gran Torismo games but with armor and weapons  laugh.gif

It had network play too, it was the first PC game I ever played online.

If this game is anything like that it will be friggin AWESOME on live.  beerchug.gif

word to that whet. i played TM2 to the bone man. then to dust. yeah rogue trip was like crazy taxi + twisted metal. strange how that genre kinda dissapeared...

and when will i get a NEW BOMBERMAN game!?!?? god i love that game.

I think the car combat genre disappearred for two reasons.  1.) If the original game couldn't win droves of people in the form of Twisted Metal Black, nothing would.  and 2.) There was no creativity left in the genre.  How many times can you stick weapons to a car and hope people buy the game.  It needs a redefining game.  A game with a believable story and great action.  I really think we'll get that on PS3 unless they resurrect the Rouge Trip game.

And my life outside of video games would end if an Xbox2 version of Bomberman came out.  I would cease to function in society.

Just to note:  TeamXbox has the new DarkSector Teaser up.  It looks pretty slick, reminding me of the Halo2 teaser we got a while ago, but I'm hoping for a tad more in November.  Reminds me of a mix between Doom3, Halo2, and MGS.  Maybe it'll be a winner, we'll see.

Jesus, I wish I had a small percentage of the royalties that the Unreal team is gonna get off of this engine.  It's unbelievable how many companies are tapping their engine.  It also concerns me that all the games are going to look the same...

theyre jsut using the engine to "power" the games. theyre not gonna be  like UT in any other fact. lol get it? does lineage 2 look like unreal 2k4? nope. its kinda like middleware now....

EDIT: its like saying. "since all devs get the SAME dev kits from MS, arent they all gonna look alike?" and thats a big zero negative.

MS is talking about  crisp images all the time. It doesn't really show in this image, does it?

View Post

Well according to almost every 360 Dev to talk about the kits they currently run the games at half the desired frame rate and have no Anti Aliasing. Give that image some AA and it looks much better... Also considering the game is still in development I'm sure the textures will be improved a bit as well (not to mention that image is in 720p where you'll be able to see it in 1080i).

After prowling the seedy underbelly of the internet... I've heard tell that most of the games at E3 are not but 60% complete.  The basic textures and work are done, but the normal mapping and full screen AA have been left due to engine optomization.  Read that as "we wanted it to look pretty but still run at 60fps."  If the engine wasn't optomized, and those pretty factors were implemented, we'd be saying, "OMFG does that run slow... oh no, Xenon is underpowered!!!11one."  Yeah... so games are "done", they just need prettying up in the next 3-5 months.

2006, what will it be rememberd as?

Every year can be remembered for something, whether good or bad.  For example, 2001 will always stay in peoples minds as the year of terrorism.
2002, for me was the year of the Bali Bombings, 2003, again for me, was being the leaders of the school, 2004, the year of the Tsunami attacks and the Olympics, and as for 2005, well who knows?

But what about 2006?  Call me mad, but this, I believe, will be the year of the consoles!
Take a look, You have both XBOX 360, PS3, and most likely the Nintendo Revolution being released and all starting their climb to the top in 2006.  Whilst 360 does come out in late 2005, we will get an indication of where it is going in early 2006.

Anyway, this time, it seems the consoles seem to all be going down their own paths.  PS3 seems to be going for all our power, XBOX 360 for customization, and the Nintendo mainly focussing on backwards compatability which seems to appeal to many of the gamers who loved the old Nintendos.

user posted image
Now to look into each console with more detail.  Firstly the Nintendo Revolution, this console seems to have developed a sense of mystery, Nintendo have kept most if all of the details under wraps for a while and the unveiling at E3 was the first official news on this new piece of hardware.  But still, they didn't let too much out.  This generation of consoles all seem to be going for a certain distinguishable look, and the Nintendo is no exception, the sheer size of the console is one thing, but the thinness of it is another, in a way, they have stuck to what they did with the Gamecube, portability, it has a glossy look and it just has a certain awe of mystery about it, as for graphics this time around, who knows?  What tricks do Nintendo have up their sleeves?  The backwards compatability will hopefully work wonders if they make it easy to use and not complicated for the average gamer, and you must keep in mind, gamecube a lot of the time is a console you buy for the younger version of gamers. Will they be able to pull themselves out of the ditch that Gamecube dug them into?  Time will tell.

Now to the PS3, upon first looking at the console all i thought was WOW!  The guys at Sony have clearly given this console a lot of thought because quite frankly, it looks great, it has a great shiny finish and I think that the idea of different colours is a nice move.  But I think they have let themselves down in one area, and I think most will agree with me.  The controller.  Who knows what they were thinking?  Most people loved the original PS2 control and I think the only thing that would have made it better would be trigger buttons, but whilst these have been included I think Sony have really let themselves down in this aspect.  But, who knows, the ocntrol may end up feeling great and may shock many people, or like with the XBOX 1 they may bring out another form of control, modified.  WHilst the killzone trailer was declared "not in real time" it is still  a view of what developers believe the PS2 can do, this, in itself just shows how much 5 years can make when comparing it with the PS2 version.  BUt, for me, the main question for the PS3 is, what will it be able to do with it's online system this generation, whilst the PS2 did have online capabilities, not too many people used it and not too many games supported it.  If Sony can nail a good online mode then the XBOX and revolution certainly have their work cut out for them.

user posted image
And now to the XBOX 360, customization seems to be the 360's main feature, and Jay Allard says the aim is to "put the gamer in the centre of the experience."  The idea of removable face plates and customizable dashboards (what you get when you turn on the XBOX without a disc in it) sounds very appealing.  Probably the main feature of the XBOX 1 was the 8Gb hard drive, users sited this as the number one reason they love their XBOX because of the availability to make custom playlists, but it wasn't in every game, so MS have gone to developers and made sure that custom playlists are available in all games.  The hard drive, this time however isn't a measly 8GB, it is a whopping 20 GB, it is removable, is will be included in the XBOX release package (what you get when you buty an XBOX) along with the conolse, a wireless controller with a USB plug and play cord and 2 AA non rechargable batteries and most likely a Launch title game.  The XBOX 360 webpage has been launched which allows people to trial customized face plates, to have a full view of the control and console and it also contains a few pictures that may lead to something later, a la ourcolony.net.  Speaking of ourcolony.net, incase you haven't heard it was a site where people could either join a team or make their own, they would then have to solve puzzles and were rewarded with pictures etc.  It has now ended and whilst it was a fantastic scheme, MS have struggled to back it up with any good public relations, for example at E3.  ON a forum I frequently visit that is solely dedicated to XBOX there is an independent journalist for XBOX and he was saying that if MS actually wants to take Sony down a peg or two thent hey need to hire some good Pr people because quite frankly, these guys suck. XBOX Live has also been given a make over, with a free Silver service which lets you download content such as dashboards and to get your gamer ranking published and to be able to buy stuff for your characters on an online market place aswell as being able to chat with friends by talk, text and video.  The specs of the 360 are less than of the PS3 and whilst the PS3 will be more powerful, experts say that you won't really be able to notice the difference graphics wise.  But the best thing about the 360 would have to be the new UI (User Interface) all you do is press the sivler button in the middle of the controller and instantly you are whisked away to a new world, here you can customize playlists, see if you have invites to any online matches, if you have messages, go to the online marketplace, it is endless what you can do.

What do I think?  Well personally I think we will see Sony win the race once aagin but I have a feeling that XBOX and Nintendo will be able to hack away at their lead int he market.  Why?  Because what most of us dedicated gamers don't realise is that the general public who can't interpret stats very well would most likely be willing to buy whichever console hits the market first, regardless of it's power, this is where XBOX may be able to make up some ground.  The rest of us dedicated gamers will wait to stick by our respective consoles but the general public may be responsible for a heavy swing in the market.

In conclusion, the year 2006 will be one of the most amazing years ever in terms of technology, and personally it couldn't come sooner.  Will the Revolution and 360 be able to hack away at Sony, or will they once again prevail as the kings of home entertainment?  Only time will tell.

Please note, I only have more info on the 360 because that is what I have been following the most, and also because Sony haven't released as much information apart from their specs.

I see a lot of people asking about launch titles...

Considering we seem to estimate the Xbox 360 to launch mid november I think anything projected to release in 2005 can be considered a "launch window" title.

MS stated in their conference that they would have 25-40 titles available in the launch window. Based on some of the games announced there, in individual announcements and IGN's release date list (http://xbox360.ign.c...ex/release.html)

These are the games I see being available in the launch window:

-Call of Duty 2 - Shooter
-Dead or Alive 4 - Fighting
-The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - RPG
-Enchant Arm - RPG
-FIFA Soccer 2006 - Traditional Sports: Soccer
-Full Auto - Racing
-Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon 3 - Shooter
-The Godfather - Action
-Kameo: Elements of Power - Adventure
-King Kong - Action
-Condemned: Criminal Origins - Action
-Madden NFL 2006 - Traditional Sports: Football
-NBA 2K5 - Traditional Sports: Basketball
-NBA Live 2006 - Traditional Sports: Basketball
-Need For Speed: Most Wanted - Racing
-The Outfit - Action
-Perfect Dark Zero - Shooter
-Project Gotham Racing 3 - Racing
-SSX 4 - Extreme Sports: Snowboarding
-Test Drive Unlimited - Racing
-Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2006 - Traditional Sports: Golf
-Tony Hawk's American Wasteland - Extreme Sports: Skateboarding
-War Devil: Unleash the Beast Within - Shooter
-[unnamed Bioware RPG] - RPG

Action: 4
Adventure: 1
Extreme Sports: 2
Fighting: 1
FPS: 4
Racing: 4
RPG: 3
Traditional Sports: 5

It looks to be a REALLY good spread. There's no word on when FFXI will be released, but considering it's going to be a port and an online only game I'd assume that will also be available in the launch window. (rounding the RPG count to 4) The above list has 24 titles but based on MS's announcement there could be as many as 15 more titles to be added to that list. Here's hoping they fill out the selection in the Adventure and Fighting categories or perhaps in some of the categories that are missing all together (such as platformers, puzzle games, party games, fight, etc.)

me being a fighting game fan I hope we see some other fighters at release, I love the DOA series but it'd be nice to have SOME variety. Soul Calibur, Tekken, Virtua Fighter, Mortal Kombat, would all be nice franchises to see at launch or perhaps some surprising sequels like Tao Feng 2, or Killer Instinct 3.

If this list is correct and DOA gets a playmate or two I think it will make for a very strong launch lineup
