The jumper should be on cable select. If that does not work change it to master and give it a try. Also you will have issues if you leave your xbox unplugged too long. The system clock looses the time and you have to reset it. Replace the original drive and reswap them as quick as possible. I would start by using a evox_newhd cdrw to format them.
Post your results.

Swap them when what do u meen? i cant get it to boot anything with the new one plugged in ...does anyone have a 120gb 5400 samsung that can help me by telling me what they did?
ty in advance

Yeah, that is a good drive. Can you put your original drive back in and boot it? Set the time and reinstall new drive quickly, less than 5 mins.
-
i get error 7 nothing helped if i understand u right
-
you have the original hd in right? Is it modded?
-
yep it is lol.......
-
try installing it and disabling your chip and make sure your clock is set.
-
why would i need to have the clock set? hmm well anyways i am now formating it on my computer and then im gonna c how it goes. When i put it in my computer it did not have anyfile format or even a letter drive so i think that that was some sort of factory format like almost it was locked .... i used fdisk and now am using scan disk soooo il report back ...
-
Well..seeing as I've been on the forum for maybe 2 days now..
You need the time correct because you just do..
As far as formatting the drive on your computer, that's not going to do much. Evo-X needs to set it up the way it needs to be setup.
Pop your original HD in, Disable your chip, Set the time, replace your original HD with your new HD, enable the mod chip, boot up with an EvoX bootable disc and run the NewHD wizard. Problem solved.

your IDE cable is prolly connected the wrong way, the side with the light red stripe? that should be closest to the powerplug.

Keep trying the CD. It took me like 30 min before it finally booted into Evox...R u sure the Cd you r using works? Well you could try to copy all the files from the old HD onto the New 1 since you formatted it in Windows...Just put in the old drive and put in the Evox CD and make sure it booted with the Evox cd...Then on your comp copy all the files to the new HD...After that is done pop in the Hd make sure it boots...If the F:reads something like 111.248756238475 then it worked if it doesn't then turn ur box off and pop in Evox CD and see if the CD boots...if it does just run the Raw commands, if it doesn't KEEP TRYING LIKE I SAID IT TOOK ME 30 MIN....MAKE SURE CS is the jumper setting
-
NO he can't have it upside down or backwards the IDE Cable has a key and only goes 1 way

-
oopss sorry bout thta i thought i sent it through earlier ...no it didnt work .... this sux ..... not too bad but i wanted 120gbs in my xbox!

You know when you install the drive you have to format it and stuff, right?
-
format it how? it doesnt matter im copying the files from the 100gb to the 120 and then ill try the 120 one last time b4 i format the 100...
-
You have to set up the partions and format a new drive before the apps will recoginise it. You can use a program like evox_newhd_lg.
-
i thougth it was spose to work right outta the box ...is this program for xbox or for computer?? I cant get the xbox to boot anything with the new hdd thats all........if its for the computer than thats ok . so plz explain ..
-
If you just want to slap a new hd into the xbox you have to run evox_newhd. This will partition and format the drives, c,e,f,x,y,z. Then you can start installing apps and stuff.
-
thats where my problem occurs unless i can format the hdd in my computer i cant get the xbox to boot from ANY CD while the 120gb hdd is conected.

-
Your mod chip, does it support hd swapping? This is will it boot from a cdrw to setup the drive?
-
remember dude i can get it to boot up with my wd 100gb 7200rpm hdd. thats the one i use with my dloads and os it has 3 partitions........ i am now copying the files to the 120 gb hdd so i can format the 100gb and use it in my xbox...... the only problem is that i get error number 7 when i have the 120 gb samsung installed but the first time i tried the 100gb WD hdd it worked fine but i i didnt format anything .
-
Ok sorry to be redundant.
You installed the 120 with master or cable select jumper on...
With this drive installed you tried to boot up a cdrw...
When you did this you got error 7, something about the hd from your bios?(which bios?)
-
x2 4977 or 4799 one of the 2 lol .....and umm d.6 evox bios both had error 7 on both slave and master settings
-
Did you have a Cdrw in to boot. The error 7 is expected if you install a blank drive. When install a bootable cdrw it should boot to it. Then you can run the drive setup.
also this is my last post for now I will be back on in about 6 hours. If you post quickly I can respond, otherwise I will check ya out later.
-
yes a bootable cdrw is in the drive i told u i kept everything the same except the drive and then it worked. when i changed to the wd drive.. . ok thats kool i appreciate ur help tonight
