Post by: ikecomp on November 08, 2006, 03:08:00 PM
Dude...you should really get an id...how do you get in clubs and stuff without one??? Also, how do you get into rated r movies when they id you if you don't have an id?  blink.gif I'm pretty sure you could sneak in but you can't hope to do that everywhere all the time.

After reading how you treated the store clerks and the kind of language you used over a game, I'm starting to understand why they made this law.

Get an ID
I really don't see how you get by without one, it seems like I need mine everywhere I go.

you can still get an ID that isnt a drivers liscense. just go to the DMV and ask for one (not sure what paper work you need though)

Dude, this has been going on for a while. R rated movies, M rated games, it's nothing new....I don't know what you're complaining about, it's just the law.

Just be glad our rating system isn't as harsh as some countries. Germany wouldn't even rate GoW, so they can't buy it there at ALL (so I hear).

Alot of stores are stepping up this policy. This law has been in effect for a while, but many stores haven't been enforcing it that well in the past. Many store clerks will even let some teenagers off without checking for an ID (Many make the assumption that they look over 17).

I dont use an ID, i dont have any reason to get a drivers licence, and... well i cant think of anything else. I think what you guys are failing to understand is the fact that their carding me for a VIDEO GAME. Not Alcohal, not Cigarettes, a bloody video game. And trust me homes, you'd be pissed too if you came as far as i did only to get denied because of a stupid ass law. Why should i have to bend over backwards because some stupid ass mother couldent take a bloody video game away from her kid like normal parents do if they dont want them to play it. Its so much BS, lol, when it starts to get that i can buy drugs easyer than i can buy a video game then theirs definatly something wrong.

Judging by your complete disregard for the English language and punctuation in general, it appears that you should spend more time doing home work than playing games.

Okay, so i go to Best Buy today to grab my copy of Gears Of War. So i decide ill go during my free lunch block at school.

So how did you get there?  Walk?  I dont' understand?   Somebody with ID had to get you there unless it's two blocks from your school?   I've been out of school for a while but....   our lunch was an hour tops....  More like 40 mins at best.

Maybe I just don't understand.

be pissed at the law, not at the stores.  taking anger out on people doing their jobs is lame.  its like being pissed at a cop for giving you a ticket cuz you were doing 75 in a 55.

so now you know, get an id, and no more problem.  not sure how much they would cost, but around here state id's are only like 10 bucks.  at least they were.

i used to work in a theatre and had to id people buying rated r movie tickets and i couldnt sell to anyone who didnt have id... i didnt agree with it, but it comes with the job... after a while of getting bitched at by kids who think youre just being an asshole for not selling them a ticket, you really dont mind refusing to for most of them... its not as though they are out to get you, they are simply doing their job... imagine how many jackass teenagers they have to deal with in that situation daily...

I think this kid isn't old enough to buy the game to begin with.  He said he is in school and doesn't have a drivers license or any need for a phot ID.  I bet he is only 15 or 16 years old.

Think about it.  How often is somoe 18 or older and still has to have daddy by video games for them.  The answer is never unless they are a complete retard.

GTA:VC came out i was only 13

Release date: 2003. So your only 16? Good. They shouldn't have sold it to you. That law's there for a reason. If you acted like that in front of me you'd have been escorted out of the store also. They have the right to refuse a sale.

That's true. I got carded to see a movie and I don't get carded to buy booze (I am 21). Not much you can do. The world is messed; there are far too many sponge kids that soak up anything and way too much time on their hands. It's sad because it ruins it for everyone. (Not implying you're one of those kids)

But there is no need to take it out on the guys that work there, even though it's frustrating..

It couldn't have been said better earlier in this thread to be mad at the law not at the clerks.

hamwbone, yeah right, because i'd really love to waste my money on a car when i can just bike everywhere i go, fuck off, you'd be pissed too if you were in my situation. Shit, i thought i'd get some simpathy here but i guess i was dead wrong. I guess you guys arnt getting the point, carding for a video game is fucking rediculus, and not only that, those ESRB ratings are just guidelines to help parents decide what videogames to buy for their childern, in no way are they anything like the MPAA movie ratings where they have to be enforced. Not only that, i never even knew about this, atleast they can post a sign or something saying for now on you need ID to buy videogames, most rediculus thing ever, but thats the least they can do so people dont waste their time. FYI Keshire, i'm 17, i was born in 89', Your're right i probly shouldent have flipped out on the clerk, but but i was pissed i wasted my time to come down there. This is outragous, probly why i dont buy video games anymore, too much of a hassle. Now i have to have a 'rent with me every time i buy a video game, just not worth it.

No dude, it's you that aren't getting the point. There are all things that each of us likes doing in life, whether its a hobby, sport or job. And each of these, if we are to participate, have guidelines and rules by which we must comply. If you can't play by the rules, find something else to do, and quit whinning.

Depending on which Best Buy you went to, they probably didn't have many at all.  The one I work at (Cambridge) is one of the best stores in the company, and we only got 30 yesterday, but over the course of the next week we'll be getting about 80 more copies.  Call back tomorrow, and if they don't have them yet, they'll definitely have them Monday.

... I remember when GTA:VC came out i was only 13 and they let me buy it no questions asked. ...

Considering VC was released late October of 2002 that would make you 17 (unless your birthday is in late October/ early November)

Massachusetts State law prohibits the sale of violent video game sales "to minors" meaning even though the ESRB says 17+ Your good state says 18+

An ID wouldn't have done you any good because you probably wouldn't have been old enough to buy it anyway.

I can understand not needing an ID if you're under 18... you really can't do any other age prohibited things until you turn 18 anyway.

Jeez, so much for liberal Massachusetts, when the hell did that law go thorugh? Anyways, all you people calling me a brat, or a 'prick' or immature, well you're wrong

They don't sell porn, cigarettes, or alcohol to minors either.  The game is rated M 17+.  If you're mature enough, then get mommy to buy it for you.

Yo, anyone over the age of 17 knows you NEED an ID to do almost anything as an adult!
You don't want to drive thats fine i live in the city where like no one drives but you bet your ass they have a fucking ID, cause you aren't recognized as an adult unless you carry an ID...
If you were an adult you would have know this and had an ID on you anyways and this wouldn't be a big deal.

You maybe not be spoiled but you are acting like a young immature brat, grow the hell up and ask your mommy and daddy to get you this cool adult game for Christmas or ask Santa.

Even in a forum where no one can see you to guess your age we all can tell you are too young to drive or buy this game (either that or your retarded) so quit your bitch'n

All in all I think that that law is a bit much.

But video games, music, movies are only as bad as the person using it.

just my thoughts on the "only having 30 copies" thing.  Wasn't the game supposed to be released next week to the general public and only this week to people with a pre-buy?  I know that all the stores around me have copies, but wasn't that the whole emergence day thing?

I am in my mid-twenties. I have been married 7 years. I have a 3 year-old son. I write software for the DoD. I look 30. I get carded when buying video games 50% of the time. I don't bitch. I smile and show my ID. I then pay for my game and go home to enjoy it. The law is the law and it is not worth that clerks job to appease you. In a court ignorance of the law would not excuse you from being held accountable when commiting a crime. You are a consumer of videogames and as such you should be aware of the laws that apply. As for your determination that the law is rediculous and should be reconsidered there is an answer for that as well. When mature adults are unhappy about pending legislation or legislation that is already passed they contact their representatives and voice their dissaproval. Even though you are not of voting age you are still a constituent with the right to contact your state representatives. Start a petition and educate people as to why you feel the law should be reversed.

Your age was apparent in how you wrote about your ordeal and if my child is of the same maturity at your age I hope he gets carded for a game such as GoW because when he comes to me to get it for him it will be a resounding, "NO! You need to grow up before you can play games with mature content."

But anyway, im probly going to get the game sometime soon, but i just think best buy and gamestop and eb games and all the other game stores incompetence should be noted. Next time you plan on getting the next blockbuster game, wait a while untill they actually have it in stock....

LOL wtf? Wasn't aware?? Where the hell have you been, that's like saying I didn't know I needed a drivers license to legally drive. Does the rating on the game mean anything to you? How about movies? Don't tell me you are that clueless.

welcome to the new world, where most places require you have id. I was carded four times yesterday alone.

whatever though, I have an id for the these kind of situations.

if you REALLY want the game that much, get creative and you'll find yourself a way.

man, I am glad I turned 18 when I did, the whole wagon went up in flames shortly thereafter.

This thread is going downhill quickly...

Bottom line... in any situation where there is material considered age appropriate/inappropriate you should not be surprised when asked to prove your age somehow. That's the short and the long of it.

TOPIC CLOSED.
