Great job Team Blackbolt. The crazy stuff that you guys can do with a P3 processor, simple nVidia GPU, and 64 megs of RAM never ceases to amaze me. I'm really looking forward to trying the new skin out.

Very good work but I think it will be hard to make people jump from their preferred skin ie PM3 MC360 and im a Mediastream lover myself.  Though I think the continued work on XBMC content can only be praised!
Title: ...rebuilding
Post by: ThE MaSTeR 3 on April 28, 2009, 02:48:00 AM
This is how it breaks down for me...

PM3.HD 10/10
Ellipsis 9/10 (from what I've seen)
PM3 9/10
MC360 8/10
MediaStream 4/10

In other words I'll probably keep the look and sound of perfect PM3.HD.

Hardly, PS3 cross bar has 4 directions of movement, we're using a carousel with only 2 directions. I can see how it could be confused with ps3 having a dark background and white icons, but its hardly PS3 influenced, I don't own a PS3, never will and think they're interface is too simple and plain.

Isnt that the whole point of the xmb. simple. I own both, the PS3 xmb is way better than the nxe dashboard. The xne from my point of view looks like its trying to get you to spend money all the time. There are menus everywhere that connect you the marketplace. The older dash was way better. A side scroling friends list is just plain stupid. whats wrong with a list? The PS3 xmb is just way easier to use. And it isnt locked down like the xne dashboard, has video previews on the xmb, and the list could go on. IM NOT A FANBOY as I own both consoles. Just find the PS3 xmb a lot better.

For navigation purposes, the old Xbox 360 blades menu was much better. even now I still get lost in NXE too, its too cluttered with links to stuff to buy and huge icons. I agree PS3 is simple but obviously thats not what Ellipsis is, Ellipsis is it's own thing, its not based on or inspired by anything else.

Nice the way the icons zoom in and out on the main menu. But the dvd covers need to be completely transparent. The old black bar to the left side of the dvd case is been done dead? Complete trans would give the skin a big boost for your dvd section. Especially if u added a photo template for the pictures instead of plain old boring pics? Sharpe was suppossed to do it but flaked out. Among other flakes.....Nice job so far.
But I see many areas that need improvement. With many improvements this could blow Backrow out the water.....................................We have been waiting for something completely new here.

BLACKBOLT.....YEAH (IMG:style_emoticons/default/pop.gif)

Sorry but, PM3 is wackkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk. To plain, to boring. People here really don't know skins do they? If it has a 4.3, many people will switch. How wrong the little people are.

I have an xbox that I use XBMC with to stream movies from my PC's shared drive. Is there a way to get the movies covers and backgrounds like it shows in the teaser movie? Is there a program that pairs with IMDB or something like that? How can i get them to show from an externally shared drive?  Any help or info or links is appreciated.

Thanks guys!

XBMC runs great in HD on the linux/windows/osx builds I've used.

also SD 4:3 users should upgrade; these skins are best viewed in HD resolutions and are optimised for them

Never, ever, I will --- by my own will --- move out of my SD 4:3 resolution. HD resolutions (LCDs and Plasma) are  --- for my taste --- simple the worst thing in the world for RETRO GAMING. You get totally dependent of FILTER usage and this brings THE DAMN HELL smoothness and BLUR of the traditional 'old good PIXELATED screen. I will keep --- until all my CRTs get dead --- running my Xbox1 in 480i with component cables.

My opinion.
Don't want to be rude to anyone.

Hehe, I run the emulators in 720p and don't turn any of the filters on, what results in glorious 1cm x 1cm perfectly sharp pixels on my tv! It makes retro gaming even more retro!! I hate using the filters to blur or smooth the graphics of emulated games, pixellation is glorious.

I ran mine at 720p and no video chugged at all.  Played them all from network.  No if you play 720p or 1080 video then it will fall apart but standard xvid and dvd isos are fine, just run the interface at 720p

Sire, this is something I was never capable to test, and never had nobody to tell me good things about. Are you using 720p in what TV? It is a LCD TV? What is the size of it? Resolution? Brand? Model? I really don't get how it is possible to have the original Xbox 720x480 screen (SD TV) to be displayed, for example, in a 1368 x 768 LCD one, avoiding the native interpolation/scalling of the HD TV itself.

For me it ever was as just running a Windows in 800x600 in a 1024x768 LCD monitor, a hell of a blur originated from the upscalling and interpolation.

What exactly happens when you change your dash config to 720p?
What is the size of the Xbox screen resolution by doing so?

And, are the * Xport * emulators compatible to 720p?
NES, SNES, GENESIS, PCENGINE, MASTER SYSTEM, etc?
I know that the new CoinOPS is...
Are the emulators but really tough guys on 720p?
Or they present several bugs?

I really appreciate if you can help me with those questions.
If you check my signature you will see I am a but neurotic with original screen aspect ration and damn' pixelated, not blurred, screens. It is the law of my world.

Regards,
Cospefogo.

More:

For example, if I double the 640x480 screen I get 1280x960, so, 960 does not fit inside the 720p, which is of course, 720px on height.

To get correct aspect ratio on a bitmap/pixel screen I should respect the original aspect ratio, always "double-ing" the size. Genesis original sign is 320x240, to display on regular 480i I should have my emulator set to 640x480, which is the perfect double size.

If I have my Xbox running on 1280x720, I can't double my Genesis screen, because it requires 1280x960 on height! And more --- The TV requires 1368x768 on it! The TV will FORCE this size on the image and will generate scalling and interpolation.

GOD. I am so confused.
Really.
I will bend down to ground now and cry.

BlackBolt, are you able to provide a PICTURE of your screen running Sonic on NeoGenesis? 2 pictures... one from entire screen, and one closer to it?

Please.
Regards,
Cospefogo.

Cospefogo, without going too off-topic,

My tv is a 37" Samsung LCD Tv, I'll post pics later if i get a chance to take them. But the xbox 1 is set to 720p and most of the emulators support 720p. There is NO blurring its pixel sharp and really good. 720p dash to 720p tv, looks great!

Hello, I've for a semi-officially sanctioned Nightly Build from SVN site and I was wondering if when this is release be able to offically add this fine skin to the nightly builds?

the site is http://www.sshcs.com/xbmc and if you search Google for "xbmc nightly" I show up right there at the top smile.gif.

Anyway I normally do not modify the svn builds what so ever, but would like to offer a 2nd version of each nightly build [I do all 4 trunks nightly] that my users can download that includes your skin as the default skin.

Let me know if this would be acceptable.

If it's been 'toooo long' as you said, then obviously you have deemed that the time has passed where it would have been acceptable to wait, therefore to determine it 'toooo long' you must have now given up waiting and thus will be ok whenever it comes out, even if that is a year from today.  ph34r.gif

To answer the question about 4:3, we've not done 4:3 yet.

Xperience is one that I've been eagerly awaiting.  I hope the "yet" means 4:3 will be done, just hasn't been yet.
What kills most of the newer skins for me is the lack of 4:3 support.
