- 8/24/1995 - MS suprise releases Windows 95
- August 24th, 79 AD Mount Vesuvius erupts completely unexpected and destroys the city of Pompeii
- 8/24/1456 - the first printed Bible is completed (Guttenberg Bible)
2. the date 11/09/04 when taken apart:

over Saturday and Sunday, the folks at Bungie have been having huge LAN Halo 2 tournaments. An interesting thing about this is that the TVs playing Halo 2 do not have a beta build # at the bottom.... Oh, and why are they having tournaments if they are so busy again?
9. Bungie's weekly updates:
over the past few weeks, the Halo2 weekly updates have been nearly all similar: "this is finished", "this is near perfect" etc etc....most of the major work is finished and they've been tweaking
Add this to the fact that Bungie has stated in the past that the game would be "done when it was ready". They also can be quoted as saying about a year ago that the game was 95% ready....
10. Bungie and MS's "no comment" stance...
A year ago, when rumors were flying that Halo 2 would be coming out on the anniversary of the XBOX launch (November 15th, 2003), Bungie and MS within days quickly stated that the rumor was false...
Both at this time have taken a "no comment" stance...
This is strange considering their advertising on 11.09.04...
If this was indeed the release date, why would they continue to let rumors fly about it coming out earlier when they have spent millions advertising it???
Think about it. This makes a lot of sense. If Halo 2 is released near CHristmas, a lot of games are not going to be purchased for the XBOX. It will dominate nearly every other game, and a lot of great games will not be bought.
With MS doing this, they can sell all of these copies of Halo 2, and give a few months for Christmas to come, when other videogames can stock up on sales...
There's this simple sense of MS's financial desires, and well, then there's all that I've just written....
So, enjoy, and think! Halo 2 suprise release on August 24th??? It's not only a possibility, it might be likely....
The money that Bungie is spending to host this site, do all that they are doing is just unreal for a demo release.....

For me, the biggest clutch is the t-shirt that actually says, "11+9+4=24".....
I just think they are doing way too much for some demo release, when in the FAQ it has even been stated that a demo will not be released....

Bungie and MS are BUSINESSES.
Releasing it early will lose them A LOT of money. What about those with preorders? There won't be a huge buying attracting tons of attention.
Not to mention tons of people are not HUGE Halo freaks, and will not be in the know that it was even released. There ar emany other things that will cause them to lose lots of money, too.
Look at all this hype that they are making with ilovebees.com . iF it lead up to a demo (Which I am 100% sure it will not be a SP, but there is maybe a 2% they will release a MP demo, as it is done) it would cause a ton of commotion/attention and thus, more sales.
Also note it is a couple of months FURTHER from HOliday season. Why would any business do that?

All this is doing is creating hype and keeping people talking about the game for a few months till the game is actually released. Could some sort of a demo be ready for release on the 24th? Sure it could, but to spend $$$ promoting a Nov. release only to ship it to stores early with no shelf and stock space awaiting it is not a sound financial move. Keep your fingers crossed for a demo here in August but you'll be waiting till Nov before you get the whole experience. <

everyone gets them 1 to 2 weeks before they are release and they hold them until there release date and i am thinking that "In 8 days this medium will metastasize" thats when they are going to ship it to retailers and then tell everyone that it will come out on aug 24 i will keep looking around work to see if we have anything in electronics that we can not sell until aug 24 and i will open it and seee if it is halo 2, and i will tell u guys, and if u guys just call like eb games or an electronic store ask them if they have recived halo 2 yet, cause they normally get them in and just have them in the back and just leave them there until there release date, and they should tell u if they have it in the back or not if there nice, and i will tell u guys if i see anything at my work.

It's rather lonely in the Castle.
There's clouds of fireflies around the Queen, but most of the time where I am it's dark, and empty. The hallways are empty and they echo, cho, cho. Sometimes the Queen staggers past, her head buzzing and crawling, with the Pious Flea whispering in her ear. Used to be, the only other thing you heard in the corridors at night were the Widow's thin legs, click clack click clack like knitting needles chattering across the stone floor. Course she's not around anymore. Can't say I miss her much.
Didn't stay quiet for long, though. Now the Queen is trying to build a voice. Strange, sad, broken thing; just hearing it makes me feel frightened and lonely.
I was surprised when the Queen sent her away, but Her Majesty DOES have a temper, and the Widow had been making a lot of mistakes. I was hiding behind the throne during their last argument. For days the Queen has been ordering her to build the most extraordinary number of little roads out from the castle. Turns out she was very particular about where she wanted them to go: more particular than the Widow understood. Widow hears, "Build a road," she just starts shoveling. Hard-working old biddy, the Widow, but not the sharpest pin in the cushion. She kept getting into fights with the Flea, when she could SEE him riding around up there on the Queen's shoulder, proud as a lord. The last time they quarreled, the Queen had just discovered the Widow had built one path mindlessly straight INTO THE SEA. This is what I mean about an Arachnid of Very Little Brain.
Usually I am a pretty good hider, but I made a terrible pig-snorty kind of laugh when I heard about the underwater road, and I think they would have caught me, if the Queen hadn't been busy breaking up the Widow at just that moment.
Anyway, I get the feeling the Queen is very grumpy. She has totally taken over the road-making business; I'm sure the paths will be better now. She's not always a lot of fun, the Queen (and quite mad, of course) but she does get things done.
Sometimes I sneak away to my very own secret garden, and pretend I am waiting for Dickon to come and teach me how to speak to the animals. I feel I should be getting stout and rosy-cheeked if only I could go out and play on a moor somewhere: but I never get outside. Just say in here, in here, in here .
Sometimes, to cheer myself up, I tell myself stories. In these stories, I am always the hero, Gretel or Lambkin or Gerda. I like stories where the girl takes care of things.

Come on man! This is possibly the single greatest ad campaign in video game history! They have satellite coordinates of phone booths all across america and cryptic phone calls going out at exact times... They have the entire geek community in an uproar!

I think halo 2 will be one of the least pirated games in xbox hacking history.... a lot of people probably want to play it on xbox-live, and a lot of people still respect bungie as a developer.
I know most of my friends that pirate just about everything never pirate ID software games, or VALVE games. I feel the same way towards bungie. If they respect the hacker community like these three companies do (I mean look, they're giving us this fun game to play! That's not for the general public. It's for US) then I will respect them enough to buy their game.
I urge the rest of you to do the same.
(and pirate the shit that EA and MS puts out.. they don't care about the community, just the money)

frankie is the one who does the bungie weekly updates(most of the time). he posted on the bungie.net forums that there wont be in any way a halo2 sp or multipayer demo released before november 9th!

It starts dling slow, but after about 5 minutes I'm dling at 321.8k/s

I went to the specified location at 5:29 (15:29 PDT) and waited nothing, then i was talking to a friend on my cell and i think i heard it ring, very quietly, and ran to pick it up. Nothing a click and then a dial tone, then it rang about 10 minutes later and same thing. I found out eventually that across the street is a box where a payphone used to be with just wires, so no success today, maybe ill go back tomorrow and wait by the same phone. Ill have pics soon.

The downside (for them) is probably that it's only the one's that had already decided to buy the game that will come in contact with ILB.com. The only thing it resembles to is actually Hitler In order to make him more important, popular and powerful, they kept the people waiting before he entered the stage to speech, a lot longer than decided. So when he FINALLY arrived the people went like nuts. I don't know if Bungie had that in mind, but it's got the same effect. Since this thread is 46 pages long, I'm sure you people hype it a lot more than if ILB wasn't there and it was just released, right?
