Title: Modded Bios Without Modchip
Post by: joele on October 16, 2003, 04:58:00 PM
I have a xbox that has been 'modded' however it does not contain a mod chip, they have flashed the actual xbox bios and it now contains Executer 2 4976, I wanted to update it.

Can I simply use xbtool to flash a new bios, or is there extra requirements being as I don't have an actual mod chip? just thought I should ask I dont want to screw up the xbox! :/

I would use FlashX to actually flash the TSOP.  You can modify the BIOS with Xbtool but be sure it is good before flashing!  Do you know what size TSOP chip you have?

I have never had trouble flashing with evox. for 1.0/1.1 you need a 1MB bios. For all other versions, use a 256k bios.

Once you know your version, edit your bios with xbtool, then ftp to your xbox, and put the bios in c:/bios. go to settings->flash bios in evox, and flash the bios you just made.
Good Luck!

hey marmite i got a 1.0  so if i need a 1mb bios which one do you recommend,
im using the font exploit right now and do not have a chip to install.

im cool so far withy what you said,, put bios is c:bios  then use the flash promt with evox. and let it flash.

so which bios should i use, and will it need to be a bfm or not.

let me expand on my confusion,, aside from which bios do i use, im looking thru everything and so far i see i have to solder some stuff on the board, is this correct ? i hope not. also edit the bios,, edit it how,,? im looking thru the tutorials and they really need to lock the tutorials, cuz there are so many posts in there i get lost. in the end im so lost i dont know what exactly to do.

they should make a sticky for non modchip(exploit hack) xbox's and tsop flashing

DON'T flash with a BFM BIOS.  BFM BIOSes are meant to Boot From Media, such as a DVD or the hard drive.  Flash it to the TSOP and it'll be 29-wire-mod time to recover from it.
