Title: Audio Exploit Installer/remover.
Post by: qweryujo on December 29, 2003, 09:14:00 PM
could I try adding that to my xml and try formatting F: and G: if I haven't replaced my original drive? I don't want to open the box to find out if it has a Seagate drive, but this could give me the answer. If there is nothing there to format then it shouldn't hurt anything correct?

I am pretty sure that all OEM original xbox hard drives are only 8 GB.

E: will have free space on it that is already formated (3 - 4 GB)

I wouldnt try formating any thing unless you actually put a bigger HD in.

While you were looking around the file, is there any way to give the swapless track a name? Rather than it being blank?

Seems a shame it has to be blank..

I wasnt aware that you could "downgrade" the dash board.

what dashboard did he have?
what version is the kernel?
what version is his xbox?

is there a url or tutorial on how to downgrade the dashboard?
or revert the dashboard to 4920 or whatever is necessary?

boog, some xboxes have original Seagate hard drives with 10gb capacity. I don't feel like opening my box and voiding the warranty, but this formatting ability might allow me to determine if it has the extra 2 gigs and use them if they are there. Theoretically, nothing should break if there is nothing there to format, right?

have a small problem, i have installed the hack via 007 it works a treat then after a few times using the console it wont load mxm it give the error21 message "xbox needs service" anyone else had this? or know a solution?

well I just got the error 21 msg.

my audio file looks like a chineese symbol.

I guess I am going to have to do ....

QUOTE
The audio hack sometimes becomes corrupted. If you boot up the gamesave you will find an item under the Audio section named "Reinstall DB" (or something like that) that will fix this for you.

BTW, this IS in the readme!

or reinstall the MXM package from 007 saved game

tomorrow morning.

Morden really does answer the same questions over and over and over...
I even saw the answer to the format question I had earlier... I feel really bad. =[

On a side note

Um... Crimson Skies... having trouble getting it to start.

put in on the HD.

loaded into the game.

chose single player.

freezes at loading screen with all the deffinitions of what the buttons do and what the controls are.

press reboot button...

get back into MXM.

go to load Crimson Skies MXM just sits there forever saying "Loading... Crimson Skies"

press reboot button...

go into memory section

delete anything associated with Crimson Skies.

boot into MXM

loaded into the game.

chose single player.

freezes at loading screen with all the deffinitions of what the buttons do and what the controls are.

rinse... repeat.

I tried using xFER and Qwix both to put the image on the hard drive.

Anyone know if there is a fix?

thanks in advance.

UPDATE:

Crimson Skies not working PBL fix

man my head is spinning after reading that... as far as I can tell I need to set it up to boot evox dashboard and sign the xbe to play Crimson Skies off of the hard drive.

very confusing

QUOTE
HOW TO BOOT CRIMSON SKIES FROM DVD-R OR THE E DRIVE

the game will not load from phoenix so dont use phoenix !!!

put audio signed phoenix in your apps folder and delete it from e:/ then take a copy of evox and sign it with the audio key
rename the out.xbe to linux.xbe and send it to the e drive with the skins and evox.ini

now when u load the audio exploit it will take you to evox BEFORE phoenix and because phoenix is in your apps folder SIGNED you can load phoenix at any time

now sign the default.xbe from crimson skies with the audio key your be able to load it from dvdr or the e drive without useing phoenix
from warbeast

Yeah, no.
Crimson Skies can't be used with PBL. You can get it running with fonts by signing the cs xbe, though.

I would just like to take this opportunity to thank Morden and wish him a very happy new year on behalf of all the kiddies in my area who got a new xbox for christmas and now have the audio exploit installed (by moi) including a couple of games and kawa X

Talk about happy bunnies and it only takes me a few mins with my memory card and MA

Just one thin (I know I should search but don't have much time as I'm at work) is the "fixed" audio file available from the usual places to prevent the audio corrupting (I have to keep nipping out to fix broken installs)

Thanks again buddy - I used to use the Font exploit mostly but your package is just soooo damn easy to use.

I read in this thread that you needed to have the 4920 dashboard to make this hack work. What I did was take the dash out of one of slayers disks and moved it to the xbox c drive. I have done this before and it work everytime. This is the only time I have ever heard of error 13. Any ideas on how i can fix it.

Yup typical - christmas is over but the spirit lives on - all I've made out of whoring Mordens work (as was so well put on the last page) is a lot of phone calls and some very happy friends and relations - not all people who do these things are money grabbing - evil minded little $h1ts.

Anyway happy new year to you all - next time I won't bother with the congrats I'll just get on.

On that note if Morden wants to post a Paypal addy (or email me) I for one would be happy to donate a few quid - will anyone else be willing to do the same for using his work?

Anyway, perhaps I will post something and some nice people will help me out or not, oh well....

But if you want to help someone out who has a vested interest in this, drop something in BJ's tip jar, you can find it in his sig. Without MXM this package couldn't exist! Just let him know Morden sent ya! I want to donate something to him, but I'm broke, and kinda feel bad about it as I'm using MXM and couldn't do anymore than give him a thank you in the readme.

In any case... How would you like a status update on what I'm working on for V4?

Somehow I knew you would!

Here are the bug fixes going in: (These WILL be there!)
1. No more ActionScript errors!
2. The more stable version of the audio exploit.
3. An uninstall that will remove directories that files have been added to without blowing up.
4. All those missing settings will be added (Ip stuff, skins, etc.)
5. Fix the "No Boxplorer" bug.

And the new features: (Not sure if all are going to be there, but I'll try. Oh, and they are in the order of how likely they are to be in there. So #1 is a sure thing, # 8 is a long shot, etc.)
1. Reboot with any BIOS. (this will help people with the Focus chip who can't see the PBL menu!)
2. Run any app without PBL. (This is the fix for you peeps with Crimson Skies!)
3. IP config screen like Evox has.
4. Uninstall will delete EVERYTHING the package adds (including the files that get created by adding the gamestub, MXM savegame, ETC.)
5. Better install. It will ask you if you use DHCP or not, and let you set it up if needed.
Now for the long shots:
6. An Upgrade, so you won't have to remove V3, V4 will install on top of it. There are some issues here, that I won't go into now. I'll get the rest working before trying to tackle this beast.
7. Font support. But you will have to provide your own fonts as I can't make them fit on a mem card.
8. An installation engine. This one is going to be the hardest, but also the nicest (imho) feature. This will allow users like yourself to build installation scripts for apps, then a CD could be compiled with the install scripts and apps and the install engine will give you a list of apps on that CD and ask you which ones you want to install! The CD is dynamic, so ANYONE can add an app to it, with an install script, and the engine will be able to install it. This means EVERYONE can contribute to the success of this package, even if it is in a small way!

Hope everyone had a good new year!

Morden.

Am thinking of using this mod on one of my Xbox's, so far I have only used B&E on friends as they don't use Live etc...

I don't really want to look through 67 pages so any chance of either editing the first post to show the instructions or tell me what pages am better looking at.

It would be ideal if I could still use Live but if not then so be it as I have 2 boxes anyway.

Thanks,

Dave

recondite- have you patched Crimson Skies in any way? or is it the original image?

correct me if I am wrong but if you press A after the PBL has loaded and before MXM has loaded ... isnt PBL a factor still? Or are you assuming I made some changes.

When I do the audio xploit I see PBL show up then a quick press A screen then it jumps to loading MXM.

Help PLEASE!!!
I know maybe this is not the place to ask but i use Mordens Audio Pack V3 and i know helpfull people are around here...

I get an error 06 with both my Original Xbox HDD and the New HDD, i unlocked with unlockx using the HDD key from Evox backup, then after doing the cloning in WinHEx, I Got the new key using eeprom.bin in liveinfo, after that i reeboted and then locked both HDd drives again, the orgial with the first key from evox backup and the new one using the one liveinfo gave me...

What i think i did wrong was: i unlocked the original HDD with the key and included many 0's at the end of the key, exactly as the .txt file and then when i locked the original back again i didnt inlude the 0's...
Also is the key Case Sensitive???

May this be the problem, if so what can i do to fix it im so SCARED i fried my xbox!!!
Thanx for replies

EDIT:
I managed to get the new HDD Working beacuse i used a wrong password to lock it, in live info i saved the stuff to a .cfg, and ussed the HDDKey that came in there but i was supposed to use he Calculated Password.... My bad...

As for the Original HDD i tried to UNlock it again the way i locked it before but i tink i really messed up when typing the Lock password again, i think i misstyped...

Is there any way for me to wipe the old password, unlock the Original HDD or get the Lock password for me to get the Original HDD to work again...?

Alright, first post on the board, so ill make it good.

Anyway, I have a November 2003 box (1.5 most likely) with the 5659 live 2.0 dash. I swear it came preinstalled :-D I want to use the v3 package Morden released. I know I cant install the audio exploit, but If I can just boot the savegame everytime and get full functionality from MXM then, I'm cool with that. I could downgrade, but is it safe to do it with D:5659 and K:5530?

Also, I know my box has the focus chip on it that keeps PBL from displaying properly, but shouldnt it still load MXM after a few secs without a scrambled screen? I ask this because, everytime I load it, I just get a black (scrambled) screen after the logo. Im guessing this Action Replay card just blows, and its keeping me from getting the full save.

I know I can run evox using the 007 with evox savegame, so im sure there is some hope in this. I know I could install EvoX this way, but its not as cool as anything Morden has release :-P Any help with these few questions would be appreciated.

UPDATE: Being the smart guy I am, I loaded up EvoX and then FTPed the v3 installer save over to my xbox. However, it still doesnt do anything after the loading screen. It must have something to do with my xbox.

QUOTE (Mordenkainen @ Dec 3 2003, 01:43 AM)
To downgrade your dash, you need to get the slayers disk. Search for a guy named slayer on this forum and follow the instructions in his sig to get the iso.

Use an xiso extractor to extract the iso to a temp folder. SimpleX and craxation will not work, try something else.

Now you need to delete some stuff on C:. Alternativly, you may just want to rename the folders and files instead of deleting them, you can delete them once you know the new one works.

Ftp into the XBox.

Delete:
C:Audio
C:Fonts
C:xodash
C:xboxdashdata.xxxxxxx
C:xboxdash.xbe
DO NOT REBOOT THE XBOX AFTER DOING THIS!

FTP the SYSTEMALLc folder from the extracted slayers to the xbox C:.

Check that all files sent correctly.

Reboot the xbox.

Then check your dash version, it should be 4920.

Morden.

i did wat was told of me. no mistakes whatsoever. i put all of the old files in a folder named OLD and then extracted everything from SYSTEMALLc... everything was intact and looked good. Now the box is telling me that "your xbox requires service. please call xbox customer support. i am fucked. i probably just ruined the whole box didn't i?

remind me to kill someone

is there any fixing this or am i just screwed?

EDIT: i did some research and i am getting error code 21 bc it has a lil 21 in the corner of my screen.

"21 - anywhere - This error says that the machine was booted to display a error, basically someone told the machine to reboot (or launch a xbe) with this flag, and the error code just means its been rebooted by the flag" there was also another definition of error 21 somewhere else that said it was because i modified the C:/ drive and i should just restore a backup. well first of all i have no backup because i backed it up on the harddrive. (im hoping that move is going to help me in the long run) ... but anyways, how the hell am i going to access my drive now in order to change things back to normal? i heard of an official disk that people use to reset the hard drive back to normal. could i use this and where could i find it??

any and all suggestions/solutions are most welcome. im like shitting myself over here because it's my brothers xbox and he told me not to fuck anything up.

Did you check the file sizes to make sure they were the same?

Sometimes files don't transfer to the box well.

As far as the "disc" to reset your box, thats Slayers, what you used.

In any case you should still be able to boot up with a game in the drive.

beerchug.gif Wow whata forum and Thread!

Ok I've tried to digest all 69 pages today!

Im a n00b uhh.gif but think I've read it all correctly,

I got a UK Xbox at Crimbo and it has a samsung drive which was a pleasant surprise, the versions are:

K: 1.00.5100.01
D: 1.004920.01

(Sorry if there are to many full stops!)

I have a few very n00bish questions:

Seriously thanks for all the work and comments, I hope I can use this method,

Sorry I have another question

Has the focus of the project changed or is it still to make an easily removable hack with minimal or no HD saving to avoid detection ?

If I read right with V2 You almost had no files on the HD except the save and the stub to enable audio I'm really paranoid about getting a new game and it not working and killing my box!

Ok, first post, first try at a hack of the xbox that I got for christmas.
K: 1.00.5101.01
D: 1.00.4920.01

So I think it should work. I purchased the gamesaves pc card reader, installed it with ActionReplay for Xbox. Transferred the zip file to the gamecard . (different block sizes show up when I copy it, strange)

When I try and run the save it just pops a screen saying: Unable to load <Run Linux> press a to continue

Read through almost all of this thread at least once, many twice.

I deleted all the previous game saves for MA.

I saw that someone mentioned that maybe there was a patched MA out there that would not run this hack?
I am confused why this won't work, it looks like I should be good to go? Any ideas anyone?

Thx

Hey Morden,

Do you mind if I encorperate your audio track exploit into the next easy phoenix loader (and installer at some point when I finally get that updated)? I have been working recently here with a new version of the EPL and have converted it to a similar fashion as your save game installer works. Though the scripting is COMPLETLY different.

If you like I could send you a mxm.xml file that I've been working on to show you.

Thanks,

just press the Y key and say "reset menu cache" and reboot the mxm system from the same menu (Y key).

after booting mxm (wich takes a bit longer now, because it updates the meny) you should see all programs an games in e/apps, f/apps, e/games, f/games!

it works perfekt!

Can anyone help me understand what the heck I did to get it working. I tried the whole rename/copy scheme with the freevox pbl but that didn't work because i'm using mordens v3. Any help would be great, I know morden will have this in v4 but I just got a new HD and I'm trying to put all my games on the HD.

Just finished first install of V.3 works great thanks Morden! I installed a 160gb hard drive formated F:=137 Format G: 20??. How can I utilize the space on the G: drive none of games are recognized. I have read many posts about the lba48 and patching bios yadda yadda. Is there a simple edit to the mxm script that will force apps to search G drive. I am sure there is a simple solution but Im a freakin n00b! Thanks in advance.

hi morden, ok, i was thinking this the other day, i loved the tHc Dash adn would like to set it as deafault and thanks to you, i can edit th bios and do that, but my prob is will like to use GameStub with this dash...

Is it possible to make the GameStub Script into an XBE and throw it inside the bios, since i read that it is possible to execute an XBE with the X2 bioses.

Another alternative would be to have a script load the Thc Dash like in AutoExec and have it enable GameStub...

The problem would be when im done using gamestub, to return to the hacked st.db.....

What do you think can be done?

I now know how to make the gamestub funcion in the tHc Dash, i only need your help morden to translate to the .xap language and have it do the same as in mxm wher it made a check of the st.db....

do you think you could help me out?

Success!

Finally I found the time today to build my own AR, and V3 worked on the first try! I would
like to thank everyone who replied to my naive questions and most of all Morden for a great
package.

Morden: If you need beta testers for V4 (or V3.5 or whatever) I would be happy to try it
out. My configuration is a v1.2 (or v1.3) box , 5101 kernel, 4920 MS dashboard, a Thompson
DVD drive and the Conexant card.

I only wish I had more time to play with MXM _today_!

I created my own saved game hack (007) for my v1.3/1.4 and v1.0 xboxes... It works perfectly fine, and includes the audio hack that Morden created. It's based off of Morden's hack (I believe its an older version than the current version), but has the X2 4979_67 bios, and is packaged into a "small" 3MB download. (It extracts to ~7MB).

Keep in mind-- This is for 007 only!

EDIT - URL Deleted. Read Pinned topic about posting files. You have been warned.

NOTE: I won't release this to xbins, since it is just an updated/tested version of Morden's Audio Hack.
Enjoy...

It contains XDK compiled code, which is against the rules to link from here.

Using this forum as a guide I've managed to get XBMP and Doom running off the gamesave on my friends XBOX.

However, my XBOX is on Live and presumably has the latest Dash, Im not interested in installing the Audio hack part as Im quite happy using MechAssault as a boot disc.

Therefore, am I safe from getting banned from Live if all I do is load mechassault, play XBMP off the gamesave and stream everything from my PC. Then when Ive finished watching my film will the XBOX reset to its default condition or do these hacks make changes to the HDD which MS can trace when you go on live.

TIA

You should be fine. Note that XBMP and XBMC save settings as a game save. You can delete them from the M$ dashboard if you're really paranoid.

Ok, here we go:

Dai_UK,

Use Evox launched as an app to get the eeprom.

pimmp,

Any that doesn't have the 5530 Kernel.

BUS3131,

Add lines to menu.xml for g:. Then refresh the cache and reboot. Look in menu.xml and you will see several lines for E: and F:

Caxtor,

I will not support the thc dash due to personal reasons. But if you know how to edit xip/xap, you should be able to convert it yourself. The only issue I see is you will not be able to set the gamestub on a game by game basis, which may cause big problems.

DeltaTau,

No the BIOS's in use will only load with 1.3.5i. The old PBL won't work. Try unplugging any other controllers and the DVD diongle except the first one. And check that everything installed ok.

nihilistic,

Perhaps. We shall see when V4 is closer to something than it is now.

jimmsta,

You never answered my question!

You already have a font exploit installed! You can not use more than one exploit at a time. This is the source of your problems.

Hooo3,
Activate it right away? Let me guess. After the install you are selecting the MSDash menu option, and using the hack? If so you are installing it and immediatly breaking it! Reboot after installing!

Thanks for the info - will try updating pbl to the font version when I get home. There are still things that I don't understand and hope someone can talk about:

- when running game saves using MA - is this MA specific exploit ?
- in what way does the audio exploit interact with the font exploit ( as I understand the audio is a buffer overflow, jumping to e:\linux.xbe or e:\pbl\p.xbe ) ?

- is it possible for the mxm audio install code to check for the font exploit and display a message - might save people time if it can be easly checked ( maybe it should be added to the pinned FAQ within the forum )

Your installer is a very nice package, and I hope you will be able to add some more guard code in v4 to deal with some of the more common problems people are seeing - well done biggrin.gif

What do all of you do with it. and it would help if you could point me to the topic page with the latest update or any help what so ever would be very helpful. By the way, as you guessed, I am a noob and I only got the Xbox a month ago. Also by the way, can anone tell me if this is done wrong it will make your Xbox die. I have also heard it will ban you from xbox live which will make me lose a interest so please help me.

Sorry. I forgot where I posted that message, and only found it today. I believe I forgot to post the correct zip, so it's actually a good thing that you deleted the link. (Now I'm not sure where my revised version went off to).

Basically, I used the 4980_67 bios, and decreased the jpegs from the Phoenix Bios Loader... Trying to gain a little space for small apps, such as Boxexplorer, and perhaps in the future, some other goodies...

Sorry about the missing changelog... maybe if I ever find my zip file, I'll post it again with your consent first!!

Hello. I have found some time today to play with MXM and noticed the following in the
menu.xml that Morden's MA v3 package installs: In the Emus submenu both autodir
entries are defined to point to the F partition. Shouldn't one be F:\Emus and the other
E:\Emus? I am sorry if this has been discussed before.

Has anybody tried to create a mixed audio/data cd and use it with the audio exploit?

For example, the first track could be a small song file which can be used to trigger the exploit and then the rest of the cd is data filled with apps.

I've tried but im not sure the xbox can recognise them, just wondered if there was a certain way to burn them?

@SgtKabukiman: Nice Idea, bbut not working with the exploits!

First you need the exploit-savegame on the harddisk to start it from within a game. then you have the possibility to install the hack! Or you can load the savegame everytime you wan´t to do something more with the box.

So the easiest way to help your friend ist to install him the audiohack by morden, install him all the needed apps. The only thing that you´re friend has to do then is to push some buttons to have the nice mxm menu.

Yeah, I've already installed the exploit on his machine and it works better than i imagined.

I was just toying with the idea of mixed mode boot discs, but i guess i'll just FTP everything to his box and he can launch it from the main menu.

Although I might investigate replacing the MSdash with Evox/Mxm if that's possible and not too risky. That will make it child's play for him wink.gif

Great Job of answering everyone's questions.

I was wondering if the First page in this thread could be updated to reflect the lastest Info ... since the last time I see it updated was I think august 03.

I say this because I'm sure you have all made advancements since then! smile.gif

A very short tag saying something like :
Version 4 is latest
This is what it does.
This is what you do to get it to work.
These are things I'm still working on.

Think about it ... since 23 pages is alot to comb thur to get the latest info.

@ Raven2X

Now I did when it was 70 pages and have found it all very useful, still needed to ask some silly questions though (Like this one!)

I have a PAL Xbox - I've found some games wont run from MXM (Original Disks) and I've found a solution !

If I change the display settings at all - i.e. NTSC / Force PAL 60 then certain games won't run - Return of the King, Timesplitters 2 !

Actually timesplitters appears in B+W even though I am using an RGB cable and TV supporting NTSC Signals!

Interestingly If I boot from MS Dash with PAL 60 on then these games still run in 50 HZ but they do run!

Must be something about the games not supporting anything other than PAL 50, hope this helps someone else out there!

Morden, I've read another thread mentioning an updated ST.DB to fix fat thumb probs does it solve anything else ? if not then I'll wait until V4, Thanks for the great work you've done. beerchug.gif

Major snafu -
need help

Installed the audio exploit. then removed it (just to make sure it was removable) Then ran into the 100 soundtrack problem.

Then realized i had the 5659 dash - not the 4920. Dont have slayer's or any other iso or backup. Then I decided against proceeding with the mod cause i like to play live more than i like to spend time modding the xbox. Still have the 100 soundtrack problem.

deleted the three files off the E: drive - you know the ones.

Still have the 100 soundtrack problem - can t rip any music to the xbox

I studied the tutorial and then Went over my steps carefully and realized I also may have made the following error:

After getting Mordens_Audio_hack_MA_V3, I copied datelinfo.xbx from a bonafide action replay save of mech assault (datelmech) into the following directory

MechAssaul_DatelMech.zip/Udata/4d530017

instead of

MechAssaul_DatelMech.zip/Udata/4d530017/62d648ebf155

( The reason being that MechAssaul_DatelMech.zip/Udata/4d530017/62d648ebf155
has its own copy of datelinfo.xbx )

Interestingly, when i dragged the datel_mech savegame from the pc to the memory cardd in AR, it showed up as 'run_linux' on the memory card.

So how can i restore my xbox to virginity?- i want to put some meteora from limkin park on it, etc.

STEVEHABS: V1 is buggered version of the hack with Evox, don't use it. V2 is a working version of the hack with Evox, so if you want the simpler Evox then go with this on. V3 is the latest hack, with the MXM dashboard. I like this because you can have custom soundtracks playing in the menu, and the actionscripting allows powerful customization of the dashboard. It also doesn't need an audio CD to boot the hack.

CoLdFuSioN167: It has to be 4920.

bwanaaaaa: Boot the hack using the savegame, then select Remove Audio Hack in the Audio Hack menu.

If that doesn't fix it, download the Slayers ISO, extract the files for C:, completely erase C and E, make new TDATA and UDATA directories in E, then copy the 4920 files from the extracted ISO to C:.
Make sure you use Craxation to extract the ISO, because other programs tend to skip some files, and you don't want to end up with a half extracted C:.

PS: The main reason was to make the jpg's smaller, and allow for the game save to have a little more free space for apps... (8mb memory cards are a major pain in this area - jpgs that are 20% smaller = more free space on the card...)

hi guys. i want to share with you some strange observations i made. i softmodded many xboxes using the MA version of morden's audiohack v3. i experienced the following quite a few times:

when you unplug the softmodded xbox for several hours and it loses the time, next time you boot (after you entered the time) the softmod fails. when you try to launch mxm using the well-known button-combo, you get an error message (in german: "der neue soundtrack konnte nicht erstellt werden. sie haben die höchstzahl von 100 soundtracks erreicht.). the only thing you can do here, is deleting all the audiohack files and reinstalling again. that is really annoying, especially because after installing morden's audiopackage v3, we have to hex-edit the st.db AND rename the P.xbe, etc., so that the exploit won't fail when you enter a wrong button-combination.
when softmodding friends' xboxes, i always delete the "ms dashboard" shortcut from the menu.xml, so that they don't switch off their xbox in the ms dashboard (what is also known to corrupt the audio exploit).
i always thought, only the font exploit fails after the xbox loses time?!
maybe someone knows what is going wrong here and can give me some advice. thanks in advance,

pcween

Just seen a new unnoficial release of PBL supposed to fix this, is it likely this will make it into your 3.5 release or 4 release in the future ?

I'm loathe to start fiddling myself mainly because your V3 is so Stable for me, only problems are user related i.e. fat fingers when loading the exploit which I gather can be fixed under a modified version of the st.db.

This may seem like I'm being lazy and I guess under part of it I am but unfortunately with work and other commitments the xbox needs to be on and working when I use it not messing about - Morden your package has saved so much time and headaches for myself and I guess a ton of other people by the look of this thread beerchug.gif

For whatever the reason, I started getting the error 21 thing (just started happening one day). So I ran MechAssault and selected "Run Linux" from the Campaign menu, but it says its unable to load the game. So now I am stuck, I can't get the audio exploit to work or the MA hack. Anyone know what may have caused this and/or a way to fix it? TIA...

BTW, I still have v4920 of the dashboard installed so that shouldn't be the issue...

Post by: PoseableJesus on March 03, 2004, 08:20:00 PM
I really did read through 75% of this thread before posting... Forgive me if my question is terribly redundant.

Here we go... Using Mech assault v3, AR, Dashboard is correct version.

I copied the save game to the AR.. no prob.

Copied from AR to xbox... no prob.

Ran linux, installed audio hack... no prob.

I boot to mxm, but the only selections I have are -MS dashboard -Audio package folder -Dashboard sub menu

My question... Was the audio hack supposed to also install any appz, or the appz folder?

I was under the impression that it was packaged with a filebrowser and ripper.

??

If not... is ftp the only way to install said appz, or can you brun them to disk too?
Title: Audio Exploit Installer/remover.
Post by: Bogus8 on March 03, 2004, 09:46:00 PM
WYSIWYG

Ftp is the easiest way to xfer over files... sure you could burn them on a disc and do it that way.. probably best to make a bootable dash like UnleashX which has a file browser built in and then xfer from disc that way... but what happens when a new app comes out or an update... it gets old that way... ftp is quick and painless for most!
Title: Audio Exploit Installer/remover.
Post by: Bogus8 on March 03, 2004, 10:48:00 PM
I think it's something to do w/ items.xml

personally I prefer UnleashX to MXM but dash's are personal preference!

Your xbox and your computer would be on the same side of the router wouldn't they? so you shouldn't need port forwarding?

With some help from Ben over in the mxm forum I was able to alter the menu file to recognize the apps folder, but even thought the values are the same for the other folders they still dont recognize..

Hi Morden or anyone that can help,

I downloaded your audio hack using MA from the usual place. It was V3.

I used the Slayer's disc to downgrade my dash from 5696 to 4920. It went successfully and I verified that my xbox was running the 4920 dash.

I then used the hot swap method and transferred the MA gamesave to the gamesave area (e:\udata\45...). I put in MA and booted the xbox. Once the game was up, I selected Campaign, then Run Linux. A window came up and said "Unable to load Run Linux, press A to continue".

Do you have any idea what went wrong? My xbox kernal is K:5101, D:4920.

Thanks you for any help in advance.

You have the Platinum edition or "live" version that came w/ the Live kit... Please read around this has already been covered a million times!

I have put together a package that is combination gamesave hack/audio expliot. I am currently polishing it up.

To use it you transfer the gamesave hack using whatever method is best for you to the HD, it is under 8 meg so it will fit on a memcard.

Once you boot to evox using the gamesave exploit you have the option to install and remove the audio exploit as well as swapping in and out the original ST.DB.

Also a stub program has been provided to make sure that your original ST.DB is there when you launch a program (if you want).

NO CHANGES ARE MADE TO C:\!

What does this mean..

1. A simple way to install/remove the audio exploit.
2. Virtually the same footprint as the gamesave.
3. No "reset on eject" problem unlike the gamesave exploit.
4. You do not lose the ability to rip audo, or play your rips as BGM in games.
5. Easily removable and copied to a mem card for playing on LIVE with no signature for M$ to scan for.
6. Easy to bring to a friends house and take with you when you leave.
7. No need to play with font files or change the M$ Dash.
8. Only loads when you want it, so no time problems or worrys about no longer being able to boot the Xbox.
9. Only thing you need a PC for is getting the gamesave to the X....

Anyone interested?

Morden.

Kyle you can have up to 2 controller ports occupied when you are executing the exploit
anymore than this ie 2 controller and a dvd dongle or a light gun will result in the press A screen.

this is something that has to do with PBL and not the exploit.

hope this helps.

you can however stick your additional controllers/ lightguns/dvd dongles in after this and they will work.

When i load my MS Dash and i go to music the sound tracks are corrupt as if i had the hack installed, but when i go into mxm and try ti install the hack i get the error i mentioned before, and when i try to remove it it says explot not installed.

and i cant get my sound tracks back.

So whats up?

in that case you probably have some files LINGERING around that are causing that error, FTP into the E drive and remove PBL/MXM/MORDEN folders etc everything that looks funny..

then go to the music dir under TDATA 0000ffff (whatever?) and remove the ST.or and ST.hk files..

Hello all,

and if Morden is there, thankyou so much for providing such an excellent method of softmodding. It's been an exciting week, but finally I've managed it!

Now then, I'm going to use it for very legal things, starting with running XBMC, but I need a little help. I've put the entire build of the lastest xbmc in E:/Apps/xbmc, and MxM (which is booted using Morden's Audio Hack) detects XBMC. Great! But when I try to run it, it just hangs on teh MxM loading screen.

Do I need to sign teh xbe in the xbmc directory? Or maybe change it's name? I fi need to sign it, what key do I use? Please help, I've come so far! Don't want to give up now!

hello there! i have some questions regarding morden's audio package v3:

1) is it possible to exchange the included bios with X2 v4983? i read somewhere the latest X2 bioses wouldn't be compatible with PBL. anyone knows more about this issue? is it possible? and if yes, how?

2) how do you integrate the stable audio exploit into morden's v3? i guess you have to hexedit the supplied audio\st.db. but how do you copy the PBL.xbe to P? i didn't find that file in morden's package. it seems to be embedded in his installer... did anybody already succeed in this?

i currently do not have the time to find out these things by myself. someone must have already figured these things out. please help!

thanks in advance

Nope, get a modchip.

Well, you could use a gamesave exploit, but if you don't have splinter cell, mechassault or 007 (You'd need to buy one of them), it'd probably be easier to just get a modchip.

Let me clarify:
-I need a softmod that does not involve opening the xbox or the pc...
-I can load up the exploit but I get MXM, MediaXMenu, not EvoX....

What I need to do is:
-Be able to launch EvoX from MXM
OR
-Know how to ftp into MXM

Thnx again you guys...

Does this still work if you use version 3? And if so can you play live by just deleting it?

I'm sure there will be a ton of people interested in this. It sounds a ton easier than anything else. Especially once you get it on a memory card. You could change any XBox very quickly.

Post by: Mordenkainen on August 04, 2003, 10:52:00 AM
Ok there seems to be some interest in this so I thought I would give you guys a staus update:

All install/removal scripts work, but need some polishing. They do not provide any display at all, so you won't know if somthing goes wrong. I would like to update them to at least give an error message if something fails.

I have not yet completed the stub program mentioned above, but it should be done soon. Usage would be something like:
1. Rename the games default.xbe to orig.xbe.
2. put my stub default XBE in it's place.
3. Optionally use a tool to change the name of the new default.xbe so it shows up in the evox menu as something other than "Morden's Stub Program"

When you run your game from the evox menu, it will call the stub. This will copy over the DB containing your music if needed, then launch the game.

In addition, I am trying to write another stub that will load before your dashboard to copy the hacked DB back automatically when you are done playing your game and you return to the dash using IGR or a homebrews "return to dash" feature. (I don't even know if you can do this... It may be a pipe dream)

Known Issues/Limitations:

1. Sometimes the IGR and "return to dash" fails, nothing I can do to prevent it. When this happens you will be left with whatever DB was loaded. If it was the Music DB, you will need to use the gamesave to put the hacked DB back. Not a big deal but annoying.
2. It will only work with Evox right now. I am new to C++ programing so took the easy way out (translated: lazy). In the future I will try to make it configurable so it can work with whatever you want to use.
3. And as noted above you will need an original game (007, MA) to load the gamesave (DUH!)

If you're not scared off yet, keep reading.

I have no way to distribute this. It is about 5 meg right now so too big for email and such. I don't think I can put it on "the usual places" as they have been pulling a lot of stuff for legal reasons (that and they haven't returned my emails. sad.gif)

Also, I do not have 007, so cannot test this with it. There are code differences between the two so they will have different XBE's. I have written XBE's for both, but can't test the 007 version. So if you have 007, and a way for me to get the stuff to you, let me know and you can be my beta tester (translated: Guinea pig).

OK... Another update...

The MechAssault version of the package is complete!!!!!!

It doesn't have the fancy error messages mentioned above, but it works!

It's almost like not having the Audio exploit on there at all, it's there when you want it, not there when you don't!

I am currently writing up some documentation for it (you know that stuff developers hate!) and will let everyone know when it is done.

Distribution is still a problem! I cannot run a FTP server or email this to everyone. I know XBins won't host it....

If anyone has or can set up a way to distribute this package let me know!

BTW - It currently uses Phoenix BIOS Loader 1.2 - I will look into updating to 1.3 when I am done with the doc.

A big thanks goes to evryone who's hacks I used to make this work... you will get credits in the doc!

And the read me:

QUOTE

The All In One save hack.
============================================================================

Description:
This file contains everything you need to allow your Xbox to load unsigned
applications while maintaining the ability to easily remove/restore this exploit.

It has the advantages of the standard audio exploit without losing the ability to rip and
play music CD's.

It does NOT suffer from the clock issues, and leaves the Xbox HD (with the exception
of the UDATA directory) unchanged after running the uninstall. If MS begins scanning
for HD changes, this save game can be deleted and no traces should be left on the system (as
long as you also delete any other changes you have made!). Use of the original MS
Dashboard is supported without modification (A small modification is required if you wish to
use the stub to launch it, this is detailed below).

Requirements:
   - An Xbox (DUH)
   - MechAssault

Instructions:
   Basic steps:
   1. Boot the MechAssault save.
   2. Install the Audio Exploit.
   3. Boot the Audio Exploit.
   4. Update games with Game Stub. (Optional, but I think you will want to!)

   Before you start:
   - If you already have ripped some music, check to see that you do not have a soundtrack
named "Soundtrack 1". If you do, rename it to something else before even attempting this!

   Booting the save game:
   - Copy the 4d530017 to the e:\UDATA directory. (Including folders.)
(Several methods of doing this are mentioned below, also see the excellent forums at
   www.xbox-scene.com)
   - Boot MechAssault
   - Select Campaign
   - Select the "Run Linux" save game. (Doesn't work if I change the name, don't know why!)
   - You should see the Phoenix Bios loader screen then Evolution-X

   Installing the Audio Exploit:
   - Select the "Audio Hack -> Install" menu item from Evox.
   - When done it should return to Evox. (It somethime hangs when restarting Evox, but
   it's no big deal)

   Booting the Audio Exploit:
   - Boot Xbox with any music CD in the DVD Drive.
   - When music starts playing, hit B-DOWN-A-Right-Right-A-A-A
   - Evox should boot.

Updating games (and the MS Dash) with the Game Stub:
The gamestub is an application that dynamicaly copies your original ST.DB into place before
launching your game. This allows you to play ripped tracks in your game as if you did not
have the audio exploit installed. It can also be used to listen to/rip music in the MS Dash.

   For Games:
   - Rename the games default.xbe to orig.xbe.
   - Copy the gamestub.xbe from the util directory in the archive to the games directory.
   - Rename gamestub.xbe to default.xbe
   - (Optional) Use XBE Renamer (from xbox-scene) to rename the new default.xbe to whatever name
you would like the game to be displayed in the Evox menus as. If you skip this, the name displayed
will be the same as the folder the game is in.

   For MSDash:
   - COPY (THIS IS IMPORTANT!) the c:\xboxdash.xbe to c:\orig.xbe.
   - Copy the gamestub.xbe from the util directory in the archive to the c:\.
   - Update Evox.ini to point the NSDash to c:gamestub.xbe.

Removal:
     - Boot to Evox. (use either the audio exploit or the gamesave, it doesn't matter)
   - Select the "Audio Hack -> Uninstall" Menu Item.
   - Poof! All gone.... Well mostly. If you used the gamestub on anything, it will be left behind,
Before running the Uninstall command, delete these and rename your orig.xbe's back to default.xbe.
   - Also, anything you have loaded on the box is still there. So if you want a clean system, just
   remove these first!

Known Issues:
   - Sometimes when using IGR, or if you just turn the xbox off while playing a game, you are left
with the music BD in place. If this happens just boot using the gamesave and select "Audio Hack ->
Install Hacked DB" Menu Item. This should make everything all better!

Contents:
   - MechAssault save game exploit.
   - Phoenix Bios Loader 1.3 - habibi signed
   - Evolution-x 1.8.3752
   - Xecuter-2 4977 BFM BIOS (Modified)
   - Phoenix skin
   - Audio Exploit ST.DB
   - A bunch of program of my own making.

Configuration:
   - Phoenix is configured to set the LED to gggg (Always green)
   - Evolution-x is almost the default configuration. Changes are:
  - Phoenix Skin
  - No static IP set (DHCP only)
  - All flash commands removed from .ini. (Who needs them with this?)
   - Xecuter 4977 BFM Bios
  - Reconfigured to boot evoxdash.xbe in the save game directory. And a second BIOS
modified to boot a specail app to restore the DB when needed.

Getting this on the Xbox:
Only follow the below links until the point of actually copying the save game to
The xbox, then just load up the save game and follow the above directions.

   Method one: HDD Swap trick.

That is the way the audio exploit works. Even though I wrote a few "helper" apps to go with it, it's the same exploit.

A question:

I don't quite get what your readme is refering to when it says, "For Games" and "For MS Dash". Are you saying we'll have to go through the process described under the "For Games" heading for every game (or app) we put on our X-Boxes?

Nope... Thats the point of using the Audio exploit. It's only loaded when you want it to be.

P.S.
These packages have been submitted to Iriez to see if they can be posted in the usual places. With the upcomming dashboard update I don't know if this will continue to work, but if you don't use live you should be fine for the time being. Once games start comming out with the new version of the dash on them it's a shooting match.

I will continue to enhance these packages as best I can. If you have issues, please post to the forums and I will try to help. Good Luck!

Well peeps, tell me if using the extra step above makes it work for 007. The MA version works great as this is what I use. But I am always happy to get more feedback, so let me know what you think.

Are files being installed in the f: drive? cuz if they are, I do not have an F drive. Hidden? cuz i would still like to know where the evox.ini is so i can access it.

Everything is running off the E:. The Evox.ini is in the gamesave directory, you can edit it before or after tou load the save onto the system...

Shinobi...

Did you try it? Does it work? Like I said, I couldn't test the 007 version.

As far as bold in the readme... It's text so I can't. But I will probably come up with a little tut for this at some point in the future and I will do so there.

BTW. Xbins didn't add this to the release list, so I don't know how many people know about it. If you like it, spread the word!

i dont want to sound like i'm putting this app down! its a great app but there is one thing i think people might want to change like.

For MSDash:
- COPY (THIS IS IMPORTANT!) the c:xboxdash.xbe to c:orig.xbe.
- Copy the gamestub.xbe from the util directory in the archive to the c:.
- Update Evox.ini to point the NSDash to c:gamestub.xbe.

if you rename your xboxdash.xbe you WILL nuke your c drive with any dash update! you can make a copy of it and rename that to orig.xbe also that way you can put it on memory card or the e and f drive

I will have to look into the install issue that some of you are having. Could you please let me know if you are using the 007 or MA version as there are code differences.

As far as the Xboxdash file, I do specify COPY not rename. But... That being said....

I am working on a new version that should fix the MSDash for you so you will not have to do that step.

As stated, it is important to remember that everything "lives" in the game save directory. When you run the install, some stuff will be copied to the E:\ root. But the uninstall will delete these if needed. If you want to change Evox Settings, the gamesave dir is the place to do it.

For those of you having issues, just let me know your box type, the game you are using, and what the problem is.

Unfortunatly I did not have 007 at hand to test with. the MA version works 100% on my box. I will be surprised if there are problems with that one. But then again, I did have a CS teacher once say to me "Show me a program with no bugs, and I will show yu a bug in the compiler!"

Please let me know anything you find.

I hope this package made things a bit easier for everyone.

Thanks

Nevermind,

I deleted all my mechassault stuff including downloadbale content and then copied the save over. Now it works. Thank you for your hard work.

On a side note,

So I need to use cd-rws right? Based on what my xbox can play music wise, only cd-rws work. Also, I got an import that is PAL but I should still be able to view it correctly. Am I mistaken? Also, I will have to extract the iso first and make those changes that you have in the readme and then build it back up if I want to use the gamestub, right? If I don't want the gamestub, I don't have to rebuild it, correct?

Sorry for all the questions

Ace

Thats kind of strange, did you change any of the files that came in the package? At the point the flaming bird dissapears it has loaded the new bios, and that should invoke the dashstub.xbe, then evox. The only thing I could think of is that the dashstub isn't there? Check the tools folder under the gamesave and make sure dashstub.xbe is there. also try re-ftping the gamesave to the system, perhaps it got corrupted during the transfer or something.

The last thing I think I should mention is that I am not sure how large the ST.DB can get, but if it is very large it may take some time to swap it in and out, keep that in mind if you sit at a black screen for a while with the HD thrashing away.... (Boy I have to put some kind of status display in there!)

Thanks everyone for your input.. I wrote this to help myself out as I play midnight club/DOAXBV off my HD and HATE the background music that comes with the games, but was unable to put my own stuff in there as I was using the ST.DB exploit... So I came up with this.

I will soon be trying to post an update, but don't expect any new features yet (perhaps a bug fix if I can figure out your problem Poon). I need to put the PBL 1.3 sources in there to honour the authors wishes, and since I believe in the GPL license, my own sources as well.

It's on Xbins, it's in the xbox -> exploits -> _packages -> Mordens_audio_hacks dir. If you would like to post it elsewhere, feel free. Just please make sure the readme is maintained intact, not so much for me, but because all the other groups that worked to make this possible should get their props...

Can I copy the audio hack and the other files to my MA hack? Mine's already fully customized, and I wanna keep it. Also, what is in EvoX, what is:

When you run the uninstall everything that is outside the gamesave directory gets removed. The only things left behind are the gamesave (duh) and the altered MSDash (if you choose to do that step, I highly recommend it!) The MS Dash is not a problem if you put it in the gamesave dir. (i know the readme says to put it on C:, but that was an oversight on my part, it is much better to stick it in the gamesave dir. Thanks Warbeast.)

jim,

I'm assuming that you are using the MA version because of your earlier posts. I haven't seen this issue unless I start deleteing files.

Give me some time and I will post a file list for the various directories that may help people check to see if this may be the issue. Perhaps on some machines the install is failing to copy all the files.

The issue is that the file sizes reported on the Xbox and on the PC are a little different, so I will post both.

Should I try ftp'ing to my xbox, and if so what files should I look for? I can ftp when I have the evo x up after loading the ma save game right?

Well, I must say I'm stumped....

I can't see what would cause all of your issues if the gamesave was installed correctly.

The only way that I could replicate all the failures described would be to not install the subdirectories.

A question ace, do you have a tools and an Audio subdir under the gamesave dir? And do you currently have an xboxrom.bin in the root of E:\?

I would say it's the downsampling.

To get your Kernal / Dash version go to the legal notice screen in the original MS Dash. At the end of the scrolling texk you will see:

K: xxxxxxxx
D: xxxxxxxx

Thats your kernal and dash.

The following files should be on your E:\ in the directories listed below.

Prior to running the "Install" command:

007:
E:\Udata\4541000d
SaveImage.xbx
TitleImage.xbx
TitleMeta.xbx

E:\Udata\4541000d\000000000000
boot.cfg
default.xbe
evox.ini
evoxdash.xbe
hack.loc

masave.sav (I don't think this needs to be there!)
phoenix.raw
SaveMeta.xbx
xboxrom.bin
xbsavegame.dat

E:\Udata\4541000d\000000000000\audio
St.db

E:\Udata\4541000d\000000000000\skinPhoenix
pheonix_dash.jpg
pheonix_loading.jpg
skin.ini

E:\Udata\4541000d\000000000000\tools
DashStub.xbe
hack.xbe
Install.xbe
Uninstall.xbe

MechAssault:
E:\Udata\4d530017

E:\Udata\4d530017\62d648ebf155
boot.cfg
default.xbe
evox.ini
evoxdash.xbe
hack.loc
install.loc
masave.sav
phoenix.raw
SaveMeta.xbx
xboxrom.bin
xboxsavegame
xbsavegame.dat

E:\Udata\4d530017\62d648ebf155\audio
St.db
xboxrom.bin
orig.db (Only exists after "install" command is used, and only if a music database exists)

E:\Udata\4d530017\62d648ebf155\skinPhoenix

pheonix_loading.jpg
skin.ini

E:\Udata\4d530017\62d648ebf155\tools
DashStub.xbe
hack.xbe
Install.xbe
Uninstall.xbe

After running the "Install" command. the following files should be in the root of E:\:
hack.loc
install.loc
boot.cfg
phoenix.raw
linux.xbe
xboxrom.bin

The hack.loc and install.loc are tag files to let the xbe's know what state the box is in as follows:
install.loc in E:\ ("Install" command has been used if present)
hack.loc in E:\ (hacked ST.db is currently loaded in E:\TDATA\fffe0000\music if present, Music DB is there if not.)

Boot Sequence:
(x's are for the gamesave dir as it differs between the two)
Gamesave:
Gamesave loads E:\Udata\xxxxxxxx\xxxxxxxxxxxx\default.xbe (Phoenix BIOS Loader)
Phoenix BIOS Loader loads E:\Udata\xxxxxxxx\xxxxxxxxxxxx\xboxrom.bin (X2 4977 BFM BIOS)
   xboxrom.bin loads E:\Udata\xxxxxxxx\xxxxxxxxxxxx\evoxdash.xbe

Audio hack:
Hacked ST.DB loads E:\linux.xbe (Phoenix BIOS Loader)
Phoenix BIOS Loader loads E:\xboxrom.bin (X2 4977 BFM BIOS)
   xboxrom.bin loads E:\Udata\xxxxxxxx\xxxxxxxxxxxx\tools\dashstub.xbe
   dashstub.xbe loads E:\Udata\xxxxxxxx\xxxxxxxxxxxx\evoxdash.xbe

Hope this helps!

It restores the hacked ST.DB when you return from a game using the IGR. Without it you would have to come up off the save game after exiting any application other than the dashboard.

Basically the whole idea is to swap the hacked DB for the music DB at the right time... I.E. make sure the music DB is there for games, and the hacked DB is there otherwise. Without the dashstub.xbe, the music DB would get swapped in, but not out... So the audio exploit would be removed until you reinstalled it from the gamesave.

EDIT - The PBL .lock file does indeed get deleted on an uninstall.

When you run a game using the gamestub that is provided with the package, it replaces the hacked DB with the real one. this way you can play and rip your music in the game, ETC. When you return to the dash (the BIOS thinks the Dashstub.xbe is the dash, not evox) it puts the hacked one back....

It's simple, but complicated at the same time. Drove me nuts trying to figure out how to write it. (Not that I had far to go!)

Both were in the original mech exploit so I left it... but you are probably right, just like in the 007 save I think I copied an extra file (masave.sav) from the mech save... OOPS!

Morden.

Edit - Yes I did, the IGR in Evox hangs a lot, and the X2 4977 BIOS has it built in, so thats turned on instead. Plus the Evox IGR power cycles the whole box, where the X2 IGR just reruns the dash. For this to work correctly you need to use the X2 IGR (works better anyway!)

one reason why people are getting a black screen after phoenix is because of the bios in Udata4541000d00000000000
it is set to Udata4541000d00000000000evoXdash.xbe
when it should be set to
Udata4541000d00000000000evoxdash.xbe

I did not write the audio exploit. it works by using the button config. If that is too difficult then go for the font exploit ant take the (potential) consequences. Sorry. Personally, as far as kids go, I think the audio exploit is better. It gives you control over what your kids can play!

Title: Audio Exploit Installer/remover.
Post by: Mordenkainen on August 11, 2003, 11:54:00 AM
Ok. I found an issue with the 007 version that could cause the hacked ST.DB to not be copied over. This should be fixed in the next version, but I don't think it is the source of all these issues.

The next version will also have the ability to generate debug logs if needed to help narrow down some of these issues. To get the debug logs to start showing up, create a file named debug.loc in e:\. These logs will NOT be deleted by the uninstall so you will have to delete them yourself.

I have not yet added any additional functionality, and don't know if I am going to. I will be sending it to be posted in the next couple of days. I will post here once it is on xbins, please read the readme in the new package as it may give special instructions on how to upgrade.

Thanks for being patient.

First, you should have the right version. If you want to check, boot without any mods and go to the legal notice screen in the MS Dash. At the end of the legal notice you should have k:xxxxx and D:xxxxxx

The D: # needs to contain 4290 (I think, might be 4920)

As far as your other question, I built mine, it gives me a few advantages like being able to use the X controller on my PC and hook up a KB to the X in addition to having an action replay.....

But thats just my opinion.

As for cheap mem, check GameStop or Funcoland (Yes I know they are the same company!) they often have used mem for between 12 and 18 bucks.

I hate Action Replay so much...

I don't know if its just the one's they shipped here but none of their memory cards worked with Action Replay, but my MadCatz card did. So I just hacked up an Xbox>PC cable and used my MadCatz. Trust me, not only does it work awesome, but having a USB gamepad with rumble feature, 6 axis'es, 8 pressure-sensitive buttons, and 4 normal buttons is sweet with games like Need For Speed (Well, thats cause the rumble works)...

Edit: Oh, and my controller was a MadCatz GamePad Pro Blue. For some reason my 'Action Replay' didn't work with my controller S, but I got the macro feature so my PC fightin' games are more fun anyways ...

RiceCake I need your help:

You bought the AR but couldn't get the AR card to work on your pc? I am having problems with my AR too. The software won't save any gamesaves onto the AR card. I get a "Error Writing Save" message. I tried it at work on a newer pc and was able to get it to work. You got the AR software working with a MadCatz Card? Do you think the problem with the AR I have is the card it came with? Should I return it and get a regular memory and make a cable? I will return the AR to target and buy a MadCatz card if I know it will work on my machine at home.

Vermin,

I do believe you, just don't see it in the code, but then again who knows what my K-Mart fingers screwed up.

All,
Tonight I will be purchasing 007: AUF so I can test both of the new packages before asking to have them posted. I can only test on a 1.1 box, and it seems that there may be some issues with BIOS size on other versions. We'll have to see what happens.

As far as the 007 version of the save game, there is a bug in the installer. It does NOT install the Hacked DB automatically. To fix this issue, after running the install, copy the audio\st.db to the e:\Tdata\fffe0000\music directory. DO NOT USE THE "INSTALL HACKED DB" OPTION, THIS WILL CAUSE YOUR ORIGINAL DB TO BE OVERWRITTEN AND YOUR MUSIC LOST!

Once you have done this you may use any of the options.

Thanks
Morden.

P.S. Sorry about the bugs guys. I really didn't mean to waste your time. I feel real bad about it!

Edit - See what I mean about the K-Mart fingers.

Action Replay's memory cards are really gay, I had two that never worked right, and my MadCatz works perfectly, besides, it looks better and has a lifetime warranty.

Check out my cable:

Only problem's I've noticed is that my '98 box loads the controller software very buggily but that could be my USB. Also, my Controller S funked up the memory card too, but that couldv'e been driver errors (I wasn't paying any real attension)...

The controller I primarily use for this is a MadCatz GamePad Pro Blue, just in the top of the picture.

Another problem found. It seems that under some curcumstances you will not be able to rip DVD's with my package (Just shows you the content of the E:!). This issue has been fixed and will be working in the next version.

You can temporarily fix the issue with my package by replacing the xboxrom.bin in e: with the one in the gamesave folder (NOT the one in the audio folder).

After making this change DO NOT use the gamestub.xbe. If you do you will have to boot the gamesave and use the "Install Hacked DB" to restore the hacked ST.DB.

This issue seems to be caused by the fact that Evox does not remap D: to the CD-Rom after it starts (I assumed it did.... DUH.)

Hopefully this is the last major thing I find, but I will continue to fix/improve this package as needed.

Once again, sorry about these issues.

Thanks
Morden.

Edit - Or perhaps it's not so easy. The fix in development (not the one above) doesn't work! I'm trying to find a work around now, and I will keep people posted until I know what I'm doing about this. I have several fixes in the new version, but I think this is a rather big issue, so I am going to hold off on the new one till I figure out a work around.

Ok, better solution.... This is what will be in the new package, it's not pretty but it works.

1. FTP the e:boot.cfg to your PC.
2. Edit the boot.cfg, remove the # before the AltRomfile entry.
3. Save the file.
4. FTP it back to the box, overwriting the one in e:
5. FTP the xboxrom.bin from the gamesave dir to your PC. (Not the one in Audio!)
6. Rename xboxrom.bin on your PC to xboxrom2.bin.
7. FTP xboxrom2.bin to e:.

To boot and be able to see the CDRom drive in FTP:
Boot the audio hack up till it asks you to set the name for the new soundtrack. When you press A the xbox will load Phoenix. As soon as you hit A, eject the DVD drive. You must be fairly quick about this, but I was able to get it first try every time.

This causes Phoenix to load the AltRomFile instead of the normal one. This one does NOT load the dashstub (the source of the issue).

After doing this, put in the DVD you want to rip. You may have to refresh D: in your FTP client a couple of times.

The dashstub is kind of important, so I am hesitant to remove it completely, but this will give you an option of loading it or not.

Also, this issue doesn't seem to effect you if you are using an app native to the XBox to rip the DVD, only if you use FTP. (This is why I didn't see it in my testing, I was using XCommander.)

One more bug shot dead.....

Morden.

Edit - The bug dodged the bullet! I'll have to use a shotgun next time. This works, sometimes, you might do it ten times in a row with no problems, then ten times with. I found another work around but want to test the hell out of it before I mention it as I've been burned twice by my fixes in just the last few hours!!!!!

To get the hacked db back, boot using MA and use the "install Hacked DB" option. And I had the same thing happen last night where it tried to rip a track instead of booting up. At the end of ripping did it tell you "You have more than 500 tracks"?

I have not been able to recreate this though! It just happened that once!

In any case, development of the new packages should be done now (barring the above). I have purchased 007 AUF so I am testing the packages with both games this time. I hope to send them out soon, but want to beat the hell out of them first.

Changes are:
Fixed ST.db not getting copied on 007.
Fixed evox.xbe vs evoxdash.xbe (I hope, seems to be working)
Fixed inability to see the CDRom drive.
Fixed files layout in the archive to try to make it more action replay friendly.
Added a lot of debugging code, if something fails we can probably track it down with this.
Added source code for PBL.
Added source code for all my tools.
Added VS .net project and solution files for easy compiling.
Cleaned up the code considerably (it no longer looks like a bowl of spaghetti, you can actually read it! It got bad after I added the debugging code, something had to be done!)

ToDo:
Update the ReadMe's.

I'll let everyone know when I have sent it out.

Thanks
Morden.

I loaded the MA save again and ran "install hacked db" - that worked thanks.

Great job on this package btw.

This is the first time I've modded a Xbox and this package of installers, the tutorials on this site and your help made it alot easier. I'm a newb to Xbox modding, but I have experience at PS1 modding and Directv "testing". Compared to satellite testing - this is a breeze.

I'm sure once I've gotten comfortable with doing this, those I know with Xboxs will want it done to theirs. I have a feeling most of the people I know with a PS2 will be buying xboxs soon after that.

Keep up the good work.

I got out of "testing" Daves stuff..... Too much work for me at this point. I had no incentive to learn assembly and that was the only way I could keep "testing" without a lot of down time.

Thanks for the support!

Oh and to all. I upgraded my HD in the X to an 80 gig WD drive. Now I'm not sure how I survived with the 8 gig drive! It works fine with this package, no issues. i didn't do it the way the tut's tell ya to, I kind of winged it (after reading all the tut's of course!). Took a long time my way but worked great!

So just wanted to let you know that this package is fully compatable with drive upgrades...

Good Luck.

Where did you see this about the new Mech savegame? I checked all of the Linux pages and none of them mention this. Where can I find this?

Thanks

The MechInstaller consists of 3 savegames and the first step in using
it is to get these files onto your Xbox. Their size is below 2MB which
means that they will fit onto a standard Xbox memorycard. Because
MechAssault does not support savegames on memorycards you have to copy
the files onto your harddisk with the dashboard. Also ensure that you
use the "updated" savegames if XBOX-LIVE has updated your MechAssault.

Hey guys, I was looking at the thread on replacing/removing the phoenix logo, and liked one of the pics there.

But, I didn't think the phoenix logo was integrated well, so made my own (very similar, but I didn't steal the one there, just started with the same base image, the chrome X, and went from there).

I know my photoshop skills suck so try not to burn me too much, but I think it looks quite nice when bringing up my XBox!

Huh?

With Woogers tool you already need to be able to FTP into the machine, so you would have to already have hacked it, or used the gamesave.

Woogers tool requires that you use a PC to make changes.

Woogers tool doesn't add any funtionality to the exploits, mine does.

Woogers tool isn't exactly portable.

But....

Woogers tool IS nice, it supposedly will preconfigure everything the way you want before sending it to the X. Mine is configured the way it needs to be to work, if you want other changes you have to make them yourself.

They are similar, but not the same.

I don't know how you can say it's not as automatic. Both require you to get a hack on the box (gamesave) before use.

Woogers install the hacks, but doesn't really improve them any.

Mine only installs one hack, but does so without fear of the time problem or loss of the ability to rip music, as a price there are a couple of manual steps you must take.

It is really a matter of personal choice. Both are nice. Both have things the other doesn't.

It's really up to you as to what you want.

The S-Type controller works fine. As far as the button combination, that is the way the Audio exploit works. Yes you have to do it every time you want to bring your system up "mod-on". The disadvantage is that you have to do the button combo, the advantag... Well you can bring it up normal so there is no way to tell you have modified the syste.

Basically it allows you the control of a modchip, something you can't do with the font exploit.

It also prevents the clock issue and looping.

But to be honest, once you have done it a couple of times you can do it in less than 2 seconds. It's so easy you stop noticing that you even have to do it!

i.e (I have an action replay).

I would assume so, you will need to follow the instructions in the readme to create an action replay "compatable" save, but sure... it should work I guess....

I don't have one, I made my own, so I'm guessing here.

Just for clarification so i know that I'm not misundertanding, use it to do what?

Title: Audio Exploit Installer/remover.
Post by: Mordenkainen on August 16, 2003, 07:58:00 PM
Nope. That should work. My doc doesn't step by step tell you how to convert the save to an action replay save, but you should be able to figure it out. there is a file you need to add, it's datelinfo.xbx or something like that. The action replay software creates it, so copy it out of one of the action replay save you already have. then zip the udata folder up and import it into the action replay.

Hmmmm... Perhaps I will put this file in the next package myself.... We'll see!

So as a side note, has anyone who used the rev 2 of the package had any issues yet?

I think what people don't understand is that with any BIOS but X2 you WILL lose the ability to boot unless you give up some of the functionality of the package.

The issue is that only X2 supports dash names long enough to find the dash as it is in a subdirectory

Im not at home, but if i remeber right, your package comes with x2 bios 4977. I believe x2 has a newer bios, 4978, If I am not mistaken. Is it possible then to just swap the old x2 bin with the newer version x2 bin?

I just want to be able to play "all" of my backed up games is possible. I do remember reading that some one was able to play conflict desert storm with the newer x2 bios.

Ideally, if the BIOS was configured correctly, this should work.

But I haven't seen anyone say that this BIOS fixes any of the issues with these games.

http://forums.xbox-s...ct desert storm

Check this link out Morden and Solo. Here they talk about which bios's are working with conflict desert storm. It seems though that they are unsure of why it does not run on 4977. (Conflict Desert Storm is the first game I have not been able to run on my softmode xbox)

And i was wrong, if u check the link out, they say evox d6 bios work and 4817bfm which im sure is a x2 bios. Now im not too familiar with BFM bios's, but the bfm tells me I need to make a cd and i don't want to be swapping CD's.

Now I only started playing Bios's last night when I got home after I read Mordens reply on how to use XBtool, but it would only make sense to me that if 4977 worked 4978 should work too. The only problem is 4978 has some issues with xbtool. There is even a note that comes with the latest download of xbtool concerning 4978 and the only x2 4978 bios that works with xbtool is 4978.03, which i tried last night.

Morden, I followed your directions step by step and was able to open the 4978.03 file, my problem was that I could not change where the bios would look for xbe files. I was able to look at them with evox's d6 and m7, but it did not work. Would it be possible for you to look at the new bios? I know you are busy. Or if you can, just give me some pointers on xbtool on how i could configure this bios. I was up all night messing with bin files with no success.

The 4978.03 patcher currently doesn't (and may never) support dash options. Maybe team x-ecuter will release some info on how they pack the XBE inside the kernel.

Only 4978.03 is supported.

That was included in the zip file

QUOTE
Supported BIOS Types
Xecuter2 4978.03
Xecuter2 4977
Xecuter2 4976.02
Evox M7
EvoX D.6
EvoX D.6 Eject Fix
(And boot from media versions of the above firmware using a debug config.)

That was directly from the webpage.

I do not know if they make a 4978.03 bfm version, but if it is 4978 bfm, it will now work at all.

Also....
QUOTE
As of 1.0.8b15:

X2 4976.02, X2 4977, and Evox D6 kernels all now have 128 character limits on the dashboard pathnames. There are 3 edit boxes, one for each of the first 3 dashboard pathnames. If none of the first 3 are found then the kernel will attempt to load c:xboxdash.xbe. I will probably add an edit box for the fourth dashboard later.

So the D6 should work. I was able to open and edit the d6 bin file, but was unsuccesful. I just got a black screen. I do not know if you want to try that bios dragor, but I will again this weekend.

can any xbtool gurus help us out?

Ok guys, status update:

I am rewriting the package from scratch.

The new package will be based around MXM instead of evox, and I plan to use the built in scripting to take over for most of what the xbe's do now.

Besides this, the big changes will be:
Support for the Evox D6 BIOS (Or any BIOS you can edit with XBTool!)
Ability to remove the save game without uninstalling the exploit.
Will autopatch the MSDash for ripping music.
Swapless Audio hack.

This is gonna take a little while, so I appreciate your patience on this.

OK, here is yet another status updat:

MXM is def. going to be the new dash. For those of you that haven't tried it, it is more visually appealing and offers much more flexibility.

I now have some of the scripts working in it. But have not fully tested them (and, as I have two bottles of wine in me, now is not the time to do so!).

MXM is going to be a big change for most of you, it offers almost all of Evox's functionality, plus quite a bit more!.

But as I see it now, the package will be reduced in size considerably and will support just about any bios.

This package is going to take me at least a couple of weeks to put together, so you will have to accept some delay here..... I'm learning as I go.....

Things I gan say up front tho:

1. The package should only require one additional XBE, instead of the 5 it has now!
2. Load times are a little slower, but acceptable.
3. You will want to learn the MXM XML files to cusomize your dash.
4. Upgrade is NOT an option... Sorry!

I have not asked BJ's permission to redistribute his dash, so it all depends on that.....

I'll keep this thread up to date on wat is going on!

Morden.

I played a lil around with MXM, only because it will be in the package, but I have to say I still like Evox. This may not be relavent. MXM does have a very nice xml that seems to be fully custimizable(is that a word?). I think im going to try to make MXM boot evox as soon as mxm boots up.

anyways, Morden, Are you planning on using PBL1.3 or PBL1.3.5i? Or will that be a hassle cuz all would have to be edited through xbtool?

Yes, it means you were not copying all the files over, or you altered something before transfering it.

Also, yes the action replay uses a standard mem card. but the quality of that mem card is real bad. Bad sectors, reduced capacity, and corrupted saves are common.

Wait a minute! The bird appears when you click install? If thats the PBL bird you are talking about, thats not my package!!!!!!!!!

In any case the error 21 means the file was altered, in this case it is install.xbe..... You are transfering the subfolders as well right?

Well, error 21 means a file got changed so the signature didn't match, or a file could not be loaded.....

Since PBL is loaded, signatures are not checked, so the install.xbe is missing or damaged. No other possible explanation.

I gave you a way to install a dash. What you do with the dash afterwards is your call.

Everyone please remember that I put this together for myself. MXM is my dash now, so it's what is in the package. If others can benefit from it, thats great, but not why I wrote this!

I personaly feel that it is a much better dash. And not that much more complicated. Once you get a grip on the XML format, and a list of tags you can use, it's easy.

This is your MENU!

People keep asking "where do I put my apps?" "How do I add things to the menu?".

Well:

1. Look at that file, hey, imagine that, it's your menu. It lists what directories are searched for apps and such!
2. 3 or 4 pages back I posted a long message on how to read the menu.xml, and gave a general idea on how to convert your evox.ini and add items. Please read it!

No more questions about adding items to the menu's will be answered, the answer is already here!

Not trying to bite your head off, just trying to get something more than vauge "I booted it" answers. They don't help track the problem down.

Ok everyone, here is something to note, if you use the MSDASH item on your menu, IGR back to MXM BEFORE you powerdown/reboot the XBox. If you don't, you will need to boot off the gamesave to restore the hacked DB.

This is NOT a bug, it is by design as it is the only way to make audio tracks work.

When you run the MSDash from the menu, the gamestub is loaded FIRST. This deletes the "hacked" db and copies in the "Music" DB. When you return to MXM the "hacked" db is put back. If you don't return to MXM the "hacked" db is never put back, so the button combo will not work until you boot the gamesave. Just booting the gamesave should automatically fix this, not need to run anything once you are there.

Reboot the gamesave and run the "install hacked DB".

I won't provide any more support for the old versions so keep that in mind.

Why didn't you like the dash? You ran it for less than an hour!

Morden.

Edit-

Now that I think about this, I think I may start a new thread for the V3. That way the V3 questions will not confuse those that have decided to stick with V2, and the V2 users won't get confused trying to add all the new functonality I have planned (Since updating V3 no longer requires posting to XBins.).

I can understand that MXM takes a little longer to boot up than Evox, but it does so much more, looks nicer, has a MUCH faster FTP, and has continuing support from a developer who is actually around! I don't understand the "EVOX IS THE KING" attitude that seems to float around. I consider it on the same level as those who come into the exploit forums and say "buy a modchip". There is no longer any reason to buy a modchip (for the casual user) and there certainly isn't a reason to use shitty old Evox.

Ok, my rant ends here.... I just don't get it!

Go back a few pages, others have seen this. It means that verything did not get uninstalled from V2, or the last time you used V3. Back a few pages I gave a list of file/directories to delete. Try that.

As I said to UHYVE, The uninstall part is important! After uninstalling V2, make SURE it didn't leave anything behind!

Nowhere in the MXM dash does it have Pheonix. If this is replacing the live button in the MSDash then you also have fonts loaded which is no good.

What are you running????????????????

This package is designed for machines WITH NO OTHER EXPLOITS!

I just want to say, GREAT WORK Morden! I have mxm running flawlessly, with new skins, all my old games/apps in place, and I even dropped evox in as an app to run from inside mxm to easily change the IP address of my box. The game stub works flawlessly. Having custom soundtracks again rocks. (never bothered with the stub in MA v2)
Well Done.

Anyway, ive got it all running GREAT, I do sometimes 'break' the thing from too much hacking around, but all I do is simply load in my MA save and "Resotore the DB" file, everything works great after that..

Did have a hair pulling out moment when DVD2XBOX changed my network settings and I had to fumble around in Boxexplorer before I could FTP again, was a lot of fun in the end wink.gif

A truly great package!

And the menus are pretty simple, if not time consuming, to set up, sure I could use the "auto" feature but sod that! I am a web developer after all! XML is my 3rd language! After HTML that is wink.gif

I find it all quite simple from here, I mean, using the MENU.xml file is as simple, if not simpler then using XBMPs CONFIG file...

Well done mordon....

I however do find my self wanting to replace MXM with XBMP as my default dash, I seem to use XBMP the most and it seems a pain to press that extra key just to open it wink.gif I plan on changing the BIOS (I assume thats how) to open XBMP as my default dash and then have MXM as a listing in "My Programs" so I can fix the audio exploit if it goes a little off wink.gif

I will keep you all posted...

Ok... since it seems people are having some trouble with this.... READ THIS!

MXM scripts will fail if they are instructed to do something they can't! (Like create a dir that already exists)

If you are getting "'ERROR (line1):(callscript) Actionscript file failed execution" when you try to install, this means that something is interfereing with one of the MXM commands.

You MUST get rid of everything that may interfere with the MXM commands and try again.

Here is a list of what CAN NOT be on your system when you run the install:

e:\MXM
e:\PBL
e:\Morden

If any of these directories exist, delete them and everything in them.

OK. here is the tricky part.....

Go to e:\Tdata\fffe0000music.
If st.or exists, delete st.db and rename st.or to st.db. If ST.or does not exist skip this.
If a directory named 1499ec exists, delete it.

Once you have done this, reboot and try installing again, it will work.

Please take a look at what is in the package as opposed to just installing it, try to grasp how it works. If you look at the installpack script you would see where each of these things come from, and perhaps understand why it is failing.

To downgrade your dash, you need to get the slayers disk. Search for a guy named slayer on this forum and follow the instructions in his sig to get the iso.

Use an xiso extractor to extract the iso to a temp folder. SimpleX and craxation will not work, try something else.

Now you need to delete some stuff on C:\. Alternativly, you may just want to rename the folders and files instead of deleting them, you can delete them once you know the new one works.

Ftp into the XBox.

Delete:
C:\Audio
C:\Fonts
C:\xodash
C:\xboxdashdata.xxxxxxx
C:\xboxdash.xbe
DO NOT REBOOT THE XBOX AFTER DOING THIS!

FTP the SYSTEM\ALL\c folder from the extracted slayers to the xbox C:\.

Check that all files sent correctly.

Reboot the xbox.

Then check your dash version, it should be 4920.

Then when you wanted to run anything that used the custom BIOS or soundtrack you would need to run MXM, then launch the app from there.

OK, sounds good but how about this idea I had:

The 4XXX (I foget the numbers) BIOS and the M7 BIOS both run with the new exploit AND my xbox as it is a 1.4-1.5

However, PBL is all messed up so I cant see the PBL screen... sad.gif

My plan was to WAIT till a non messed up versoin of PBL came out (SOON I HOPE!) and change the M7 bios so it loaded MXM and then have the 4XXX bios running XBMP as the default load..

I assumed this would work???

If i wanted to load MXM from STARTUP I would select a different BIOS (M7) using PBL, but for now I cant SEE the screen to do so..

Whats the verdict on that Idea???
Title: Audio Exploit Installer/remover.
Post by: Mordenkainen on December 03, 2003, 03:09:00 AM
It is a workable idea, but raises some possibility of configuration files getting messed up as MXM is not getting loaded every time you boot.

There is a risk that things could get wierd if you use it in this way.

Here is the deal, MXM runs some scripts when it starts up, kinda like autoexec.bat on your windows or DOS machine. If these scripts don't get run the machine could be left in a wierd state. This is all to do with the gamestub and custom BIOS stuff.

I will have to think about it.

Look up!

That is NOT the IGR combo.... Once you have a hack running, you CAN'T run it again... Which BTW is what you are trying to do.....

Notice you don't even HAVE the blank audio track in MSDash when you get to it this way?

Just an FYI... Both the font and audio exploits patch the RETAIL ms bios, after running PBL you are no longer running the RETAIL BIOS, thus there is nothing to patch!

reinstall the Hacked DB. NOT the whole package. This should fix it. Then whenever you go to the m$ dash this way, do an igr to get back to mxm before shutting off. If you go mxm> ms dash > power off, it screws the hacked db up.

To fix mxm's wanting to dhcp the address if not connected to a network ( I only run my cat5 to my switch when needed cuz my xbox is 20 feet from my PC), I made f:evox with evox renamed default.xbe, and evox.ini & skins inside, then added the appropriate:

EvolutionX</Tiltle>
<Exe>
   f:evoxdefault.xbe
</Exe>

Now I can launch evox from within mxm, which still has my desired static 192.168.0.3 address, reboot, then mxm has it again. Sounds time consuming, but not once your running it. This is needed because when mxm bots up without a network, it assigns 192.168.1.14 to itself. Later, when booted while on the network, it still is .1.14. A pain in my case. So I run evox, reboot, voila. mxm 192.168.0.3.

Long-winded, but thought I'd contribute rather than ask only.

I will have a better fix for this shortly.

CODE

False
192.168.1.100
4.2.2.1
4.2.2.2
192.168.1.1
255.255.255.0

MXM should take this IP even without a cable attached.

As an added bonus, a little security for your xbox...
Ya ever worry about clicking that live button by accident?

AFAIK the Live button uses whatever IP the xbox is set for.

By disabling your Default Gateway your the xbox should still be able to ftp around your network, but should not reach the internet. This means it can't reach the live update servers if you accidently click the button.

If you want to use live, you can re-enable the Default Gateway.

You shouldn't have to enable it to use xbconnect.

Now here is an item for menu.xml. It will enable and disable the default gateway. Change the GW variable to your gateway (it's set on the first line). This will toggle between on and off. It requires a reboot after the change, so it does it automatically.

CODE

Enable Disable Internet Access

Set GW "192.168.1.1"
Set BadGW "192.168.1.2"
XMLOpen netsettings e:\mxm\mxm.xml
XMLGetValue netsettings CurGW !.Network.DefaultGateway
if %CURGW% == %BADGW% goto on
:off
XMLSetValue netsettings !.Network.DefaultGateway %BADGW%
callscript _DisplayMessagebox "Gateway removed."
goto finish
:on
XMLSetValue netsettings !.Network.DefaultGateway %GW%
callscript _DisplayMessagebox "Gateway set to %GW%."
:finish
XMLSave netsettings e:\mxm\mxm.xml
XMLClose netsettings
reboot

I have tested that your live will not get updated if you go into live with an invalid gateway set.

Used XISO to take the FCNES iso and convert it to individual files.
FTP'd into Xbox and created a emus dir on E:
Created a folder inside of emus called FCNES
Copied all of the contents of the files into FCNES dir
created this MXM_Entry.xml file and put into the E:emus folder (default.xbe is the only xbe in FCNES files)

<Config>

FCNES with Romz

NES Emulator

<Exe>default.xbe</Exe>

</Config>

Enabled Automenu in MXM and selected Games and Apps menu type
IGR

I do not see the menu for emus, only audio package and MS Dashboard. I can see from the menu.xml file that both e:emus and f:emus are set for Autodir, so it should pick up on my newly created e:emus dir. Any idea what went wrong and why i'm not seeing emus menu? Tried renamed e:emus to e:games and still had no luck.

You put WAY too much into this!

As I have said several times now:

1. Put whatever application you want under:

f:\apps
e:\games
f:\games
e:\emus
f:\emus

2. Boot to mxm.

3. Hit Y.

4. Select reset menu cache.

5. Select reboot.

The item you added will show up on a menu of the same name as the folder, so if you put FCNES in the emus folder (I.E. e:\emus\FCNES), then FCnes will show up on the emus menu.

There is no need to create a MXM_Entry.xml, there is no need to adjust any automenu settings!

QUOTE (royster @ Dec 4 2003, 04:17 AM)
Thanks for a great update on your V2 package Morden. I really do like MXM compared to evox, but anyway here is my problem.
Installed your package fine but I have noticed that I can not find the Boxplorer app icon on my MXM dashboard. It looks as though it has not been found but I have checked my save game directory (007) and Boxplorer is there but I get no app in my dashboard.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

There is no Apps menu?

Boxplorer should be on the apps menu.

1. Hit Y.

2. Select reset menu cache.

3. Select reboot.

Give that a shot. Have you made any changes to the XML? Did you delete the gamesave?

You didn't change the automenu type setting to "Games and Apps" did you?

BTW,

I have edited up a set of fonts that work with my package, I am working on an Audio/Font switch script right now.

pdxz as mentioned numerous times throughout this post you need to be running dashboard 4920. This is the only way for this exploit to work. Somewhere in the 50s Morden describes how to downgrade your dash.

Here is my question: MXM > System Info > Drive F: Not Present
Drive G: Not Present

FlashFXP FTP into xbox I can see dirs C, D, E, F, G, X, Y, Z

CWD D
553 Requested action not taken. Directory not found

CWD F
553 Requested action not taken. Directory not found

CWD G
553 Requested action not taken. Directory not found

I can get into C, E, X, Y, Z

X, Y, and Z are empty

I used the 8 GB xbox hard drive image put onto a new 300 GB HD

Granted F and G are not partitioned yet...

FlashFXP FTP into xbox CRTL+R

I use the Formatpath command

"Formatpath DeviceHarddisk0Partition6"

FlashFXP tells me

500 Command "Formatpath" unknown.

I dont know what to do... how come I cant format F

it worked for my 80 GB HD under EVOX dashboard

is there a special way to format a HD in MXM? I have been searching google and the forums and have not found anything yet.

All in all

Easy Great package.

I look forwared to getting it partitioned and getting skins on there etc.

It was a breeze to install.

Thanks for the hard work.

giantboog,

For MXM it's:

CRTL+R

Format F:

Some FTP clients seem to hang after issuing this command. If that happens I just wait 5 minutes and powercycle the xbox. Then F: shows up.

Only had that happen once though.

pdxz,

Are you using an AR to transfer the saves? If so are you using an MS card with it or the card that came with the AR. The cards that come with the AR are known to corrupt saves, it's in the FAQ.

And you WILL need to downgrade your dash.

SeanCorky,

Now that you have access to your xbox, learn how to use it. Look around the forums, there is one devoted to things like that.

NINJA-404,

No it has not. I am not sure when the next update will be done.

CODE

Format

allowformat 1
format f:
format g:

After running it you can safely remove it. You should only have to do it once.

I knew I had forgotten something. Mind you I've only formatted drives 3 times, and a different way each time!
