Besides the DVD drives, they are identical. MS just used both manufacturers.

There were some slight changes to the drives used on the v1.0 models.

I haven't seen a V1.1 model (what used to be called V2.0) to compare but the newest non-moddable machines do NOT have fans on the smaller heatsink.
