Pre-mod Xbox With Onboard Bios Flashed
« on: October 30, 2003, 01:38:00 PM »

Bought a pre-mod xbox and afterwards I asked what the versions of everything installed were so I could post ?'s here intelligently.  He said he didn't install a chip - he flashed the bios directly. I'm at work so I don't have the exact versions but I know I have:

Latest version evox
Latest Bios
Last version of dvd2xbox
Last XMP
Last dvdx
120GB HD

He said I can't use Xbox live, could us XB-connect, no biggie - not big on the online gaming thing anyway.

What benefits/negatives are there to not having a mod chip?  (Just got my xbox and its great - does everything I want - can back up my games, watch divx movies)

But down the road - what does not having a mod chip mean?  If a new version of the bios comes out - I can just reflash, right?  Why get a mod chip?

You input is greatly appreciated!

Benefits = don't have to fork out the cash to buy the mod chip

negatives = if you reflash the bios and dork it up, it's a bit more work to get it working again ;)

But yeah, when a new version of a bios comes out, you can just reflash it...it's like having a mod chip on the box but you can't turn it off (unless you have a 1.0 or 1.1 and put in a switch that goes from ACC>A19<Ground.

TSOP flashing is becoming more and more common...Thanks Micro$oft for giving us a cheap gaming PC!
