CODE
cd /root/joy2key-1.6.1
./configure
make
make install

this will compile and install joy2key. it should work perfectly with the gcc1-with-libs.dsl package installed.

also, because of some changes in the script, if you want to start the main menu after playing some mugen, run "mugenstart" because that will reload the modules then run the menu.

edit: i just saw your post about wine, and i have wine on my computer and it is rather large. i could try it, but i dont think it will fix the joyd/joy2key problems were having right now.

yeah, that should work. so far every screenpack i have tried has worked with this setup.

if you can, please try this because the more people that look at this problem the higher the chance we can find the fix.

OK, i'm more than willing to help out however i can. I have not found that version of Xmugen for
download so i was going to use a win version screenpack. My only question is will that work?
I know there's alot of differences but i cant find a larger screen pack than 557 characters

hmm... it might work, if it was meant for windows, it might need to be checked for correct capitalization on the .def files and the files they point to.

i suggest, that once you get the default setup working, then try out your extra chars and different screenpack.
also, if you have a linux computer, try out the screenpack on it first. if you dont, i could test it out but i cant find it anywhere.

also, please tell your loading times (from when you enter mugen to when it starts.)

good luck.

Well my PSU for my PC decided to crap out this weekend so my comp's been down.
I'll be ordering a new one from newegg soon and get back on the project to help out.
I dont run a Linux machine but when i get my pc up and running i can use VRbox and
see what that does. I guess i can stick the screen pack through the renamer to get
rid of the caps in the text. I'll keep you updated as I go.

Ok lets review what we've got so far so everyone's on the same page:

We've taken XDSL as a base and have added scripts to load XMugen, select screenpacks, and restart/shutdown the console.  This should allow for a much smoother & bug free loader for it.

We've recompiled joy2key, which allows us to use its external config files unlike before, which should allow for us to finally have stuff like a PPP or KKK button.

Here's the kicker:  Joy2key won't load/activate properly with our setup and we don't know why.  So we now have 2 options, get joy2key to load properly, or to figure out how to configure the built in xpad mappings.  Until this is resolved, unless you have a usb adapter for your xbox, as well as a usb keyboard, or a usb>ps2 adapter, there is currently no way to test out how well XMugen runs in this environment.

Once the joystick mapping issue is resolved, its smooth sailing from there.  Adding/modifying more scripts to allow more things to happen is fairly easy to do.  One option we may have is to try using wine to load winmugen instead of linmugen.  If the performance hit isn't too bad, this may be a better option as we won't have to use character/screenpack convertor's and we could use the highres stages and stuff.

So back to you BC, have you gotten anywhere?  Do we have any other options for joystick mappers, or do they all require more libraries than what's available in XDSL?

sorry, i cant find a thing that works other than what we got and unfortunately, i think xpad mapping will work best, as long as we can map the axis and we can map right thumb click to F1. unfortunately i dont know how to do this, and it seems no one around here knows how to do it either, see here.

and, to top it off, im going back to school soon, and i dont think i will have time to work on this when im busy with school. i will try to look into editing the xpad driver, hopefully i can find something.

I think for editing the xpad part, its just a matter of finding out what key code table is being used.  For example if you google raw scan codes and compare what tables come up to what's in the file included with joy2key, they are very different tables.  I'm just guessing here, but I'm thinking that the xpad driver is using hexdecimal figures for its keycodes.  You could try finding a handful of different tables, find what F1 is represented by in them, and replace the values for all the different xbox buttons with those (example map F1 from table 1 to button A, F1 from table 2 to button B, etc) until you find out what table is correct.  Once that's figured out, its a simple matter of plugging in the other values from that working chart.

yeah, your probably right. but what i really need to figure out is how to prevent the left stick from being a mouse, and learn the code for the xpad buttons.

im going to have time to look at this tonight, so expect an update tomorrow morning.

Does joy2key have a debug mode or can we force it to output more verbatim error logs? Might need to mess with configure or have a look at the Makefile.

I'm finally back online.

nio107, where do you get a 1500 character screenpack. The most i've found is almost 1000
for a windows mugen.

He's probably using one of those screenpacks that doesn't display character icons, just has categories that you select a character from.  They can be nice, but are a pain in the ass to setup.
