Grim Fandango On Xbox
« on: February 23, 2006, 07:14:00 AM »

Hi

Is anyone working on a port of Grim Fandango to the Xbox? As far as I know, the source code is unavailable, but perhaps a 'shell' program could work - a little bit like DoomX reads the original .wad files.

Is this even possible?

Thanks

It might be possible - the ScummVM team have a project called Residual, the aim of which is to play Grim Fandango.

An xbox port of that could be possible, although I'm not sure how far along the Residual project is. Also I believe it requires OpenGL support which makes things a bit trickier.

I have been trying for a year to do this very thing.  It appears as though it is now possible to do using gentoox with cedega 4.4.1 and transgamings new directx replacement that doesn't require a 3d graphics card.  VERY SLOW though playable and can't say its an improvement over hooking up a cheap pc to a tv with a s-video cable.  Residual is gaining momentum now that mac users are jumping on the bandwagon and I doubt very much if an xbox or linux (which would certainly be better than cedega) release isn't eminant.  We could all be playing Grimm at full speeds by spring.

what about using ScummVMx?  It's not supported by the ScummVM team, and I hear it's VERY software reliant, but I guess it could work.

Absolutely no chance whatsoever!

ScummVM doesn't support Grim Fandango - at all.

See my earlier post regarding the Residual project.

Funny shit...

...I was just telling my friend today how cool it would be if ScummVM would add in Fango support so I could play it on my BeBOX, now I find out that they are working on something like this! Good deal!

not possible, because grim fandango is a windows 9x game, not a DOS game.
