I bet its gonna be December 31st 2005!! muhaha

The only reason i joked there was because the first release date was supposed to be late December 2004.
(the release date was moved a couple times until finally all information about openmugen ceased)

I hereby declare OpenMugen dead.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

too bad, i was looking forward to this.

Noooooooooooo  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)
Did you see the WIP video 2 month ago? Looks promising. Sakir is the only coder of Openmugen and he takes the time he needs ...  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)
I´m also looking forward to play openmugen on the xbox  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/love.gif)
If a playable Win-Version is out, a Xbox-Version will follow soon  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif)

haha i missed that, i stopped checking the openmugen site because there was never any interesting news,
but after you told me about the WIP video i started checking out the openmugen forums again and it seems
that he pretty much finished the main openmugen engine  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Since two or one year i am the only one who is working on it
Now i dont need any help because i was forced to do all the stuff my self.
And now the main engine of openmugen is near finish , menus , stages and other stuff are a peace of cake.

I hereby offer my apologies to Sakirsoft for my "this thing is dead" post. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy.gif)

maybe this christmas we'll get that openmugen we so desire..

The Feature of OpenMugen

I know everyone is wondering about OpenMugen and the opensource part of it.
As for me i don't see any good reason for me to keep it opensource.
Since i joined the OpenMugen project i was the only one who worked on it.
The whole source code is written by me.
As for me am a poor 21 years old student and my Mom and my Dad have debts
and things are not getting better for us.
I worked hard for openmugen and i learned a lot form this project by my self.
I thinking about a way to earn money with this.
So i will not publish the code anymore to the public. I love and support opensource projects but i am not in the condition to spend time for openmugen for nothing.
Maybe it will be available  via advertising support or in different versions.
I was thinking about tree version. Of  course it will be a free version avaible but only with software rendering and some other things but it will be full functional. Also i thinking about a commercial version with 3 different rendering modes( Software , Direct3D , OpenGl).
And in the feature you can purchase a license to sell you own fighting game via the engine.

Currently i am planing to call it ShugenDo.

So stay tuned.
Keep in mind there will be a free full functional version of ShugenDo so don't worry (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

So sorry but life is not a peace of cake ....

Here the current version of ShugenDo

Part of me is happy that he's still working on it, and part of me is saddened that he went closed source..

Look, I have a kid, I'm broke, and I was laid off.  I still give back to the Linux scene.  We all benefit from open-source, and we should try to give back.  I feel sorry that this guy is in a bind.  But I doubt that he will make money off this project directly.  I doubt many people are going to pay and register this.  Those are the facts.

If you start a project with the promise of open-sourcing it, then you should keep to that.  What he should do if he wants to make money as a programmer is learn C#, .NET, DirectX programming, etc. and then look for a job doing those things.  That is where the money is.  If he wants to profit directly from this project, then his best bet is using it as an example to a company that wants to hire him.

Given the game is supposedly so close to completion, opening up the code would allow others to debug, and help him finish the task.

Ultimately that is his choice, and he is entitled to do as he chooses.  This is just my opinion.

your probably right that most people woudnt pay for it...

but that is something that will be decided when openmugen is finished and people get to try it...

I for one would for sure pay for openmugen if I could play it on xbox just as Xmugen and play it online vs others.... but only if online functions worked, and they would have to work well otherwise your right... no one.. NO ONE would buy it then...

but I am truly looking forward to some note on this project and also online functionality ...
but for now I keep on dreaming about it... and waiting ... and playing Xmugen

Is it still going to be ported to Xbox even with the fee?  Or has the Xbox aspect been canned?  I'd really like to see what kind of frontend setups (like my current UnleashX menu) will work if it is ported.

I have made a port of this to the XBOX today compiled from the old 2006.03.02 source. I need to do some debugging on some of the crash dumps. If anyone can explain a little more the structure of MUGEN, as far as loading character and stuff please advise. I am not that familiar with the game setup, all I want to see is a Ryu v Scorpion battle.

Currently working hard to get this project finish after it i will think about the opensource concept of it

Well thats good news i guess.

my opinion towards this is still the following :

Opensource = Donation
Not opensource = New elecbyte situation waiting to happen and i would never start work on my own mugen game
if i knew it could never be tweaked to my own needs.
oh eh.. No Donation.
