Good news, I think I can keep the bink videos in the game.  I heard that some Xbox games use bink videos.  If I can find out how to use them, than I can keep the bink videos there.

Of course there's Bink videos on Xbox.  There's Bink videos for pretty much every platform.

The real questions are

1) How much $$$$ is the static lib for the Xbox?
2) Are they willing to grant a licensed customer status to a homebrew dev with a most likely illegal XDK?

I can answer 1), it's $6,500.00 wink.gif  If you're willing to pay this and cut down on the snacks and stuff cool biggrin.gif But even then, I doubt you'll become a licensed RAD game tools customer.

You can have more info http://www.radgametools.com/binksdk.htm. There is GNU/Linux lib to, but I doubt it's open-source.  Have fun  smile.gif

In that case i might be using some SDLx in the port for mpeg (that's what I would choose, avi is too big uncompressed)

Wouldn't you just convert them to XMV... I'm assuming the support for that is built in to the XDK anyway..

Besides don't get bogged down on the videos, they're the least of your worries, and aren't needed to play the game.

Well,  i wouldn't say I'm bogged down by the bink videos, but I they are a big concern to me because I don't like to leave things out.  Now one of the big worries is the sound part because I have to go through it all and find out which stuff will work on xbox already and which ones wont.  It sounds easy, but for someone who pulls their hair out over DirectSound (me), it ain't smile.gif  BTW, the XMV part is a good idea, I never thought of that at first  smile.gif

The pace picks up and slows down from time to time.  Since I am busy still looking for a new job (lot's of work around here!) I don't have as much time as I want to work on this.

BTW:  For those who care, there is a way to get AvP Gold working on XP.  I don't remember how, but it is possible.  It's too bad that M$ didn't add good bacward compatibility.  It claims to have it but it really doesn't mad.gif

Hey there.

I'll probably get flamed for this... but, I'm not meaning to come across as insulting or anything.

but..

I just have a feeling that, despite the efforts of blueshogun96..  this project will won't see completion.

It's a tall order you're trying to fill... and, call me a skeptic (or anything else you'd like to throw my way.)

d.

P.S. feel free to prove me wrong wink.gif

Yeah, you have every right to feel this way.  I'm not going to flame you for your harmless opinion. smile.gif  The thing that is slowing it down is the lack of time and money I have sad.gif  I wasn't able to get that job I mentioned earlier, but I think I may have found a nother.  believe it or not, there are expenses to this wink.gif

I realise this looks to be a dead forum. But I thought Id post a message rather than making a new thread.

I had always wanted to get this game onto a console before XP runs out!

I'm dumbfounded that no one has ported this yet!!!  blink.gif

I know pretty much next to nothing about coding, but I have managed to compile the code for Windows after correcting errors (many warnings tho but I ignore them for now) following the bible.

Theres no video which is not really a problem but sound and gfx is fine. As far as I can tell thats the only problem. Believe me, it surprised me too!

Now, for the next step, I really need someone to tell/show me how to convert the DirectDraw5 (correct?) to Direct3D8. Ive searched around and couldnt find much substantial. I preferbly would like some original code and converted code so I can see what has changed. And if theres a table of conversion or something. (Preferbly using the xbox sdk). Ive probably bitten off more than I can chew, but hey ho, its a challange!

What Id like if I manage to pull this off!! ...

* Have resolution in widescreen.
* Use of joypad as well as mouse and keyboard.
* Slow down the damn aliens especially if using the joypad! (this one seems easy according to the bible)

Any help much appreciated.

ps. I wonder if the good peeps of Xport could have a go?  wink.gif
