1. Do you have a VC++ 6 or 7 compiler?

2. Do you have the latest DXSDK?

3. Did you follow the AVP bible istructions?

4. Did you default to directinput 5 or 7  (#define DIRECTINPUT_VERSION 0x0500)

5. Did you comment out the obsolete sound code?

If you awnsered no to any of these questions, then you ahould have your awnser, because I had problems too at first.

i no stuff about the avvp2 engfine but nothing about the original there basicly the same engine anyways so i might be able to help

Sorry for ignoring you, your help is greatly appreciated.

So far, I've determined a few methoids of converting DirectDraw methoids to Direct3D.  We could either have some DirectDraw7/Direct3D masters join the team, or I could just write software algorithms to relpace the DirectDraw.  If you have ever read the book Tricks of the 3D game programming gurus, it should be a peice of cake.

Right now, I'm gonna get some DirectDraw7 tutorials and learn to master both DirectDraw7 and Direct3D8 to make it easier to convert the two and hopefully use hardware accelerated algorithms.  If not, then I will use software algorithms.  The software methoids won't exactly make it slow because adding and optimising for speed is quite easy acctually.  But one thing is for sure, it won't look as good.  If there are any of you that can write pixel shaders, then your help can be put to good use.  Anyone who contributes will be credited in the highest honors.  cool.gif

Before you comment out any code, read the AvP bible first.  It's very important.  Don't comment out all of the sound code, just the stuff that the bible tells you to.

And another thing, you have to have the full game to get it to work.

Keep up the good work man, maybe we could see a Christmas release wink.gif. I cannot thank you enough for the enthusiasm that you have shown towards the difficult challenge of porting this game; I know many people appreciate it.

Exellent Idea! wink.gif

I'm working on a website and I'll make a apecial section for the AvPx project and it would be smart to make this project open source.  Right now I'm catching up on my DirectDraw7.  Like I already said, I'll have to get good at it so I will know what I am doing.  I hate to say it, but I think this game is too large to get done before christmas sad.gif   I REALLY wish I could get it done before then, it would be the perfect gift for all of Xbox-scene beerchug.gif

Rest assure, I will do my absolute best to get it done.  I can't garuntee an exact date sad.gif  but someday soon, (i hope) wink.gif   Now I need to find a job so I can cover the expenses of porting this game  laugh.gif

lol, good one VampX.  rotfl.gif  didn't know you were online today.  Anyway, besides that, I have to buy the game AvP Gold, and a brand new mod chip.

X-B.I.T. - $59 dollars
AvPGold- $15 dollars
Coke and snacks and stuff - $6
Total     - $80 dollars
Making everyone happy with this port -  priceless

There are somethings money can't buy, for everything else, there's MasterCard. wink.gif
