I use Vice64, too. I'm a Commodore guy. sleep.gif

Me too. The outstanding Amiga and C64 emus are the main reason my Xbox is set up these days.  cool.gif Thanks again XPort for all the years enjoyment I've had from them.

BTW I'm still using Vice64x V4 which only supports GB v1 (more than enough for me) and lacks a few of the fancy options from the newer builds but is the most stable release in terms of sound and perfect SID emulation is very important to me.

When i adressed the 'stutter' in sound which raised his head from version 5 on, Madmab did a fix on the sound issue in version 9 . He asked if anyone could tell if there was still something wrong with it.

So, when you're saying that version 4 has te most stable SID emulation, can you give perhaps some examples of sid tunes or something else that clearly is better on 4?

It would indeed be very nice to really have a very good and stable next ViceX when Version 10 comes out.

version 5 is where xport added the option for sid stereo.  Could it possibly related to this?  Although I did notice that it defaults to off.

Well, i read about Stereo-SID the other day ; and as far as I can understand it's supposed to be able to emulate some sort of C64 configuration with two SID chips. But this is a little used option and only useful for certain SID songs created for it. No game supports it as far as I know.

So, unless this 'Stereo-SID' option in ViceX is something completely different (such as making mono sound stereo or something like that), and it does causes the mentioned issues, It may as well be axed (or fixed ofcourse).

Any opinions anyone?

Anyway someone could get me a sample of one of the games that is locking on savestate load.  Preferably a one disk game.  Oh and I'll need to know what settings you used as well.

Actually a savestate and a multi disc game would probably be helpful too.  smile.gif

Thanks

Confirmed. This option is actually for stereo SID: http://www.viceteam.org/vice_7.html

I activated it by mistake like I was using an Amiga emulator which indeed have a "joint-stereo" option.  jester.gif
Anyway, the C64 SID chip has one output pin unlike the Amiga Paula chip that has two. So nothing to do with stereo, here.

But I may try some Stereo SID demos just to check how this feature behaves on the xbox. Though it's irrelevant for gaming.

Just enable true drive emulation.

I'm still looking into the savestate/multidisc game issue which atm looks like a hopeless cause.

However I did notice a change log entry in a version later on that mentioned fixing a bug where the emulator hangs after 74 minutes of play.  I'm currently trying to track down the source for that version.

Well, if you need any help, like a copy of a savestate or testing of any kind, i'm here to help.
And just to clarify, it is not only the multidisc games.  It turns out that it is multidisc as well as single disks that will cause the freezing after playing for a period of time and then trying to save.

Thanks
