Updating Emulators

I just turned on my Xbox yesterday after not using it for over 2 years.  I noticed that there a lot of newer versions of my emulators available now.  I am trying to update Xboyadvance v20.  It's been so long since I've done it that I don't remember exactly how to do it.
Do I just FTP my xbox and replace the default.xbe for v20 with the newest one (v24 I believe)?  Do I lose my settings?  The only thing I'm worried about is the screen sizes/positions and other custom settings.

Just overwrite the old one the new one should work without a hitch, at least I have never had any serious issues with it.
