« Reply #105 on: October 01, 2010, 11:50:00 AM »

Had a few questions on progress so here's whats up.

Major differences from B5.4:
Rice 5.60 texture issues fixed
Various cosmetic changes to the Launcher and InGameMenu
Font colors are now customizable per skin Font.ini
RumblePak is now default
Default Sensitivity is now 100%
Deadzone no longer subtracts from controller range (you can snipe in GoldenEye now)

Working on:
Returning to launcher upon Emu crash

ToDo:
Audio loop bug in Launcher
Look at MemPak issues

Great idea. Could be standard for every emulator, especially PSXBOX too.

1964 has some crash notification code that I use if there is a crash and I put in a check for free memory and if there's less than 1mb then the emulator will load the launcher.

B5.5 is alot more skinnable but I have to fix a memory leak in the ingame menu. Afterwards will be a couple more bug fixes then thats it!

I have two ideas that I think would be very beneficial for us in Surreal64 XXX CE B5.5.  Here they are:

1.  After exiting a rom/game, make sure that the game is still highlighted in the menu and it does not jump to the top again.  This would make it easier to test for better settings in the future.

2.  Have an enable/disable feature that allows the games to be launched with optimal settings automatically.  What I mean is, when you click on a game, it would automatically start with the optimal settings.  Then in the surreal options menu, have an enable/disable button that allows you to launch the game with optimal settings or allows you to launch the game like usual by picking 1964, Project 64, etc.  This would make it easier for people (noobs) to play the games because then those people would be able to play the games without being able to mess around with the settings.

If these 2 things were added, I think that we could get Surreal to work even better by doing further testing on the games.  I know this sounds like a lot of work but I know that it would be worth it in the end, eh weinerschnitzel?

Then we would have to get a group of people to start testing again.   cool.gif

I don't even think that the testing is such a problem. Most of the big games have some good settings. It's those few games that don't work correctly or at all, which could only run with some core improving. But this is a mammoth task. But I don't complain, it's great to have people on it nonetheless.

I already said, I love you all, right? biggrin.gif

i have always advocated for #1. big time. its just annoying even just wanting to mess around and play different games, that it always send you to the top again. why?!

and #2 would be sweet as well. if the optimal settings are already highlighted why press more buttons? just choose it and go! biggrin.gif

i second these

Both freakdave and I took a look at hilighting the previously launched rom thinking it would be an easy addition, but it has proven to be much trickier than anticipated. One of us would have to go back and work on it and figure it out. But I do agree this is a good feature. So, maybe.

Optimal settings should already be applied by default with the shipped ini's. It wouldn't be very practical for us to hard code the settings in when they can change with someone's tweaks. Scorp316 has been working to improve gaming compatibility by tweaking these ini's. If I'm not wrong hes adding all of the settings entries into the inis so tweakers won't have to figure out which settings are available. If you would like to contribute in that manner I'd ask Scorp316 to show you the ropes.

As for the noobs maybe Hide Launch Menu's should be enabled by default.

yea id be nice if it maybe was like some of the xport emu's like if there is a setting set in the ini alread it launches the game with those with A; and B or X would pop up the lauch options menu's.

or at very least have a star next to the ones the ini has listed as best option. that way if someone does move the cursor around they can still know which one is best to choose. smile.gif

Hiding the launch menus would be much appreciated.  That was what I was trying to get at.

Also hope that you can get the "highlight game on exit" option to work.  Everyone would benefit from that.   (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

it would be cool to just remove the option to change game settings from those in the ini (as an option to show or not to show this part of the menus in the config settings screen) eg "show options" or "not show options" either by changing a value in the ini or as a menu based choice

I've lost count of the number of time somebody has changed these settings and ruined a game, its really annoying especially since I spent ages helping add those settings to the ini, its just far too easy to mess them up in this emulator

kids especially can break this emu sooo easy: up, green, broke - thats it!

I've even had a problem with a dodgy controller (stuck on up) totally messin them up every time I tried to select a game AGH

If this could be fixed a lot of people would be a lot happier selecting games from this emu without breaking them

How do I get Surreal version 5.4 to play games written to a DVD-R (burned from a proper xiso)?  I have the games in a folder in the disc's root called "N64 Games," but putting D:\N64 Games\, R:\N64 Games\ and S:\N64 Games\ into surreal.ini all give no results found.
