Surreal64 1964.ini Overhaul
« on: May 25, 2010, 03:55:00 PM »

Previously the 1964.ini used was version 1.8 used for 1964 0.8.5. Freakdave has just recently committed the unofficial 1964.ini v2.1 (which is for the new 1964,) this ini has some settings that improve games and some settings that break games. It took us a little while notice this with F-zero X crashing and a pause menu slowdown in Zelda OoT.

A few x-s members have started this kind of optimization on their own, but a collaboration would be the best way to get this done. Hop into #surreal64ce on EFNET and we can get the ball rolling on this.

Here is the new ini, the current ini, some information on the ini settings, and what entries are valid for each setting.

You will need to use the most recent build on SVN for obvious reasons and it will not be distributed here for even more obvious reasons tongue.gif

I wish you and FreakDave a ton of luck with this project and I hope that the scene members are as good to it as they've been to mine, and to Monkeys69's ini project.

FreakDave's recent emu upgrade was awesome.  Goldeneye is finally playable!

I would LOVE to see what you guys can do with this.   cool.gif

Soon I will be releasing my final torrent which is the emu torrent.   Included will be FreakDaves last Surreal update.  This is just a "I'm happy with things are and it's time to move on" release for me.  Madmab is still updating emus himself and my torrent won't even be including his computer based emus.

Thanks to FreakDave and Co. for keeping the Surreal emulation progressing and to Madmab for all the XPORT stuff.  I hope to sit down maybe a half year or so from now and be testing a bunch of new awesome upgrades and maybe some new systems with Xtras romsets as well.

Thanks XBox Scene!

And help these guys out.  This is a very noble project indeed!

Hey,

It would be useful to produce a "how to" for anyone to help out just like monkeys did. If people knew what to change, how to change it and what to do im sure you will have lots of support in no time !

smile.gif

Its not that difficult to understand.....edit the .ini of your particular game by implementing a number after each option.  Each number represents a specific action taken upon your particular game, which is how tweaking happens.  To find out what each number represents.....check both of the text files (they show you what to do and what they mean).  Your on your own with the tweaking part for now as I am also having a hard time adjusting some games.

 dry.gif Still having a hard time with Star Wars Shadows of the Empire.

I got it to stop freezing...now Im having problems with the FPS.......slow and very stuttery.  The second level still has texture smudge problem.

I set everything to "0" in the 1964.ini.......except for the Players (I left that alone)

I am using a 64mb xbox....if your wondering.

CODE
Check Self-modifying Code=8
Emulator=1
RDRAM Size=1
Max FPS=4
Save Type=6
TLB=1
EEPROM Size=1
Counter Factor=2
Use Register Caching=1
FPU Hack=1
DMA=1
Link 4KB Blocks=1
Advanced Block Analysis=1
Assume 32bit=2
HLE=2

RSP_RDP_Timing, CFB_RW, NumberOfPlayers is not being used in B5.X wink.gif
I noticed that many games have Assume 32Bit set to 1 (it was always 2 in the past), which causes 1964 to crash :-/

If you encounter a game that e.g. does not boot with this new ini, your tweaking procedure could be as follows:
- Open up the old 1.8 ini
- Look up your rom
- Remember the settings for this rom
- Now open the new 2.1 ini
- Look the rom up again
- Change the settings which are different
- Leave the rest untouched
- Save the ini, ftp it into the main folder
- Start the rom with 1964 and pray it'll work smile.gif

Has anyone tested this with an upgraded Xbox? I'd be willing to. smile.gif

Are there any games that are particularily problematic? Also, will the optimizations included in the INI hinder performance on a non-stock Xbox?

The SVN build is required but there is an unofficial build that we would like the testing to get done on. IRC wink.gif

Theoretically, those with an xbox with upgraded ram/cpu can utilize better settings than an xbox with original hardware. We could actually use all the 128mb testers we can get. And I'm sure every 128mb user would like to have they're settings optimized. smile.gif

Why would you need better settings?:

SETTINGS:

EMU = 1964
Plug In = Rice 5.60

Emulator Settings:

Video Ram = 6
Dynarec = 8
Paging = 2
Audio Plug In = Jttl

 dry.gif Doesn't render the difficulty level screen on the character selection screen.

Has to do with the Emulator setting in the 1964.ini_21.
