Thanks for the comment, no problem ... i will take a little pause to work on real life like i say ... and come back quickly tongue.gif

For "monster597" the new emu is on the XBINS FTP biggrin.gif
Easy to download ... no HTML links because it use the Microsoft XDK for compilation.

It's fantastic to see that this emulator is still being updated - I still use my original N64 as it's my favourite ever console, but thanks to Surreal I can hopefully try the games that were never released on PAL, as well as ROM-hacks, which leads me to ask two questions:

1) What ROM hacks or new games are there that anyone would recommend? Thanks to this thread I've found out about Super Mario 64 The Missing Stars, so thanks for that, but what else are there?

At the Goldeneye and Perfect Dark hacking site at:

http://www.shootersforever.com/forums_message_boards/

there are ROM patches, which I'm going to try.

2) Can I request a feature for the Surreal GUI? You know how at the moment you move the selection bar over the game that you want, then press A, and then you have to choose the emulator and plug ins that want? How about if instead you could load the game using either A, Y, or X, like so:

When you pressed A then it automatically loaded the ROM using the defaults from the .ini file, and if instead you pressed Y then it loaded the ROM using the last settings used to load that ROM, and if you pressed X then you got to choose which emulator and plug ins you like (and the screen shows which settings the .ini file recommends, and also which settings you last loaded the ROM with)?

I think that this would be preferable for most users.

Hey guys,

I modified the default background a little bit to work better with the 3d boxarts. It's not perfect (you can see where I chopped it up a little if you're looking hard enough), but it looks pretty slick.  Basically took a section of the background and covered up the restrictive border that the artworks show up in. Then I took the surreal logo and moved it down a bit since the artworks were overlapping that as well. Figured I'd share =)

Just download the bg I posted up here and drop it in your default folder under skins.

surreal\skins\default     <--------drop there.

Hi

Thanks for the BG wink.gif

I have one question because Freakdave works on the UI ... are the old options always in the code of the emu ?
Like on the old emu, we can order roms, see the comment, ...

IPB Image

If you don't use the XPORT menu, some of these funstions are great biggrin.gif

Have you think to, to add a splash screen ?
Like on madmab emu biggrin.gif an picture or a video ?

Finaly i had 1 new 3DBowxart, and an old remastered (picture biger, not cut on top, and 1 player logo, not two lol )

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

N64 is probably my favorite console! When those moments come and you wonder "is this worth putting the time into developing this?" ... think of me! I love the progress of this and appreciate it a ton!!!

major props to the improved graphics, especially in Zelda: Master quest (bird eye view graphics are actually viewable) and the improved controller sensitivity. -- Goldeneye/Perfect Dark are much more playable now.

Although this emulator still isn't Perfect this is major progress so thanks!!!!

Couple requests...? I too am mostly interested in a "perfect" port of Goldeneye and Perfect Dark and am looking forward to a working Game Shark someday as well. I can only imagine with the popularity of those two games I'm not the only one feeling like this is the most important part of this emulator. Thanks developers!!!

for the 128mb users, or anybody who knows the memory settings pretty well for surreal, do you think it would be best to set all memory settings at the max for best emulation of the games? paging setting should not matter for 128mb users since the entire rom is supposedly loaded, but what about dyanarec and video mem? it seems like this should only help if they are maximized, but i thought i read somewhere that allocating too much memory can cause a crash. for 128mb, 32mb dynarec max + 10mb max video mem + 64mb paging (only for the biggest games) should not cause any OOM's. but is there something else that needs to be considered here?
any input appreciated.

This is kind of a mixed/grey area so please don't get mad at me for posting this here. I was wondering if everyone here was aware of these site that mod the n64 goldeneye and perfect dark games:

http://goldeneyevault.com/

http://www.shootersf...message_boards/

http://www.goldeneyeforever.com/

What they are doing is pretty awesome. Anyway as of now (that I can find) these adapted roms only work on the mupen pc emulator. I was wondering if anyone knew how to port these modded roms (that contain "patches" which change the game in some way) to play on surreal for the xbox. Anyone thought about this or am I the only one?? Thanks for any ideas or help.

I thought maybe this could lead to something:
http://goldeneyevault.com/faq.php#1

since I'm sort of a "noob" I'm not exactly the guy to go around and start programing stuff...

Well since goldeneye freezes when playing multiplayer (documented here in this thread) nobody has probably ever pursued it.

I imagine its possible somehow since I play a few patched games on my xbox
N64 Mario missing stars
SNES Zelda parallel worlds
NES Super Mario 1 hacks

We may have to wait for the 1964 1.1 or for that remake of goldeneye on the perfect dark platform before anything else is considered. sad.gif

I have an observation on the new controller sensitivity settings.

I was testing it in Goldeneye with the aim button pressed - this shows a red crosshairs which directly shows the position of the controller.

At sensitivity 5: there seems to be a small deadzone which makes it impossible to aim slightly off-centre.

At sensitivity 1: It is now possible to aim within the deadzone experienced on sensitivity 5, but the range of controller movement is significantly reduced (e.g. can't aim all the way to the left).

I have the following conclusions:
The current sensitivity setting appears to change the range of movement in the emulator. Would the sensitivity setting be better implemented as a change in the linearity of the response?

Finally, since the analogue control on the N64 works effectively the same as the xbox controller, it should be possible to find a setting that perfectly maps the xbox movements to N64 movements. Of course, this may already be the default setting (in which case could there be an option to remove the deadzone?)!

The instructions are right there to make the rom.
I did 2
The first was the Goldeneye patch for PD it wouldnt find a place to save (probably because its only 3 levels and a beta) but it did load so that looks real promising smile.gif
The second was the mario kart multiplayer level. everything was black other than the ammo and players.
Try the PD patches and see what you get

Since getting the controls right in Surreal is proving to be such a difficult issue I would presume that the analog stick on the N64 is not the same as on the Xbox controller. From what you say, I would guess that the N64 analog has a greater range of movement in which case it may be difficult to impossible to get things spot on. Of course I could be way off on this.

Let me first preface this by saying I know nothing about controllers, but I remember that one of the controllers (N64 or Xbox) has potentiometers, and the other doesn't, and that's one of the major issues in some things. Dunno if that's really relevant to the control issues being discussed, but if you know what I'm talking about, that may clear something up. :)

smile.gif Here is the Surreal64 B5.31 CE compatiblity list....not all games are tested.  Many games like WWF Attitude, WWF Warzone, Banjo Kazooi, Buck Bumble, Mario Kart 64, Duke Nukem 64 and Zero Hour, and much more have been extensively tested and improved....meaning they do not crash and have been improved in some ways (some not completely as they may have glitches or slowdowns here and there).

ohmy.gif Note:  This list is based on a 64mb XBOX V1.0; don't know if the same settings apply to 128mb or more.

Click the "Surreal64 B5.31 CE compatibility list" name below (which will take you to my spreadsheet on google):  Might want to expand column C on the spreadsheet to the left a bit...sorry about that.
