Pelican Pl-965 Wireless Arcade Stick
« on: April 29, 2010, 01:43:00 PM »

Hi, I've been lurking here for a while. It's great to see such an active emulation community!

Anyway, I recently picked up one of these controllers and it's perfect for my setup.

Unfortunately it didn't come with a manual. Pelican have dropped support for this device from their website and despite lengthy searches I've come up empty handed.

I'm trying to figure out how to access other functions, especially how to depress the right analog stick so I can save a state in xSnes9x.
It has a 'mode' button which I gather will let me do this, but does anyone have any idea on what does what?

Perhaps there is an application I can run on the XBox that will let me know what buttons I'm pressing at any time?

Thanks for any suggestions.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Search Amazon for "PL-965", there are 2 on there right now. I can recommend it thoroughly - sitting back in the couch for a good hit on Gyruss is sublime with a proper controller.

But if you buy one and get a manual, let me know what the mapping is!

Perhaps you could go into any emulator such as Mednafenx-nes and configure the controller.  It will ask you to press a button for the input and you will know which button is which.

That's such a simple solution - cheers. I'll use Mame - that should work well.

Thanks!  smile.gif

Well it appears that the right stick is not emulated. If you press mode you'll it will map the left stick, but I can't get it to bring up the right stick. THe DPad is mapped by default.

Also, it appears that depression of analog sticks is not mapped either.

If anyone can offer more advice please do!

Hmm.  It looks like you're out of luck with that controller then.  I bought a Logitech wireless controller a while back and it works really good.  I suggest you look into that.  It is an actual xbox controller and it feels kind of like an xbox 360 controller.

I have one of these myself, which I use for regular XBox games. It's nice!

But I use the Pelican for the old arcade games - I'm old enough to have enjoyed the 'golden age' of arcades back to Space Invaders, and without a big fat joystick and big fat buttons it just doesn't feel authentic.

What I guess I need is some sort of peripheral that will let me switch between controllers instead of unplugging/plugging in.

I have a Soul Calibur 2 Universal Arcade Stick for most games you can just put the arcade stick in controller port 2 and have a regular Xbox controller on port 1. Then use the regular Xbox controller to access the emulator menu when in game (click both thumb sticks).

hobojoe44 thanks for the tip! I did as you suggested. I now have a regular wireless xbox controller in port 1 - I use it for all emulators apart from Mame. I have the wireless arcade stick in port 2, and have altered all my Mame settings to make that controller (2) work as controller 1 when in Mame. Thank god Mame is so configurable.

So I now have the best of both worlds and don't need to unplug anything.

Thanks again hobojoe44!
