Personal Computer World magazine (UK) recently had a RUN LINUX ON YOUR XBOX tutorial! in the support section....

I was amzed..  it was really great,

It opend my eyes to a few things...

for example, it RECCOMENDED flashing your origional BIOS Chip insted of buying a Mod Chip..

i LIKE that idea  :D

ALSO, it reccomended you DONT need a souldering iron, just a Solder Tipped Pen from Maplins  B)

It was a GREAT tutorial... I was amazed!

if you see one buy one ;-)

however, I would still like to put a swich into my box (that i dont have yet) so i can swich between one half and the other half of the BIOS (for Live!)

but if not, great tutorial.....

use a Solder Tipped Pen instead soldering?
disaster waiting to happen...i can see many people will start to post in this fourm and ask where can they find the old school 29 wires homebrew modchip so they can recover the TSOP from a bad flash

Thats what the magazine reccomended... And its no small mag, apparantly the largest distributed pro PC mag in the UK as of this month,,, wow...

so I expect a few people will visit the site, as its mentioned in the article..

whats so bad about a soulder tipped pen anyway? ive never even heard of one, i assume if Maplin sell em, they must be decent??

cheeper than a souldering iron too.. :uhh:

if you have a nice, high quality pen and use it right it works as well as solder, but if you try to use some cheap piece of crap your in for trouble

IF you have a nice, high quality pen ...a big IF.....chances are they end up using any Solder Tipped Pen that they can get their hands on and do the spots with a half ass job (no fully conencted between points...flash starts but does not finish...a story we have heard so many times....take a look at the fourm....how many people has a method to recover their tsop from a bad flash?...some of the guys don't even know what a 29 wire mod is...)....

remember this....without a recovery modchip you might just end up with a big paper weight
