Just noticed this thread and I would have to say a 'Hell Yes' to this nes6502.  It would be great to have a port of this marvelous NES emulator on the Xbox, with your signature stamp on it.

MednafenX is excellent and I'm so glad we have it, but I say the more the merrier.  Hope to see you go for it nes!

It's actually mapper 163.

Yes. It play Final Fantasy 7 and Paper Boy 2 perfectly.

Would you be interested in making a synopsis for it to NES? We already have the synopsis file ready to go for it, so you'd just have to figure out how to display it like XPORT's emu does. It's one single file for every game.

Well, that's really Madmab's work and he is actively developing Mednafen. I don't want to "compete" with his work, so I would not add support for it to a new port. I don't want to "steal" the coolest parts from Mednafen. That wouldn't be right.

Synopsis is actually my work.  I'm the guy that put about 1,000 hours into doing all of them by hand before wimpy came along and automated most of it (after I was already done with most of it, unfortunately).

Sorry, I wasn't trying to take the credit from you. I just meant the code to support it (because if I added it, I would need to take the code to make it work).

On another note, suprisingly, Blargg's NTSC filter works and all games still run 60 FPS.

Well I'm just letting it be known that I have no objections with you using the synopsis for either your SNES or the possible NES emulator in the future if Madmab doesn't have any issues with it.

I would love to see this done. Also, do you have any interest in MUGEN? So many of us have waited so long for a better launcher.

Hey Nes,

I was just curious, do you know much about how to alter bios code?

By default, the lowest resolution the Xbox can output is 480i, which produces a flicker. As you know, the NES, SNES, Genesis, etc. output 240p, which had solid black scanline every other. This produced a crisp image and looks a lot sharper in comparison.

I know Alexh was looking for some help to code a custom bios that would enable the Xbox to output 240p. Would you be able to lend a bit of your expertise to help out with this? I think it would benefit all the emulators out there without having to make any changes to their existing code. smile.gif

This guy, Tobias, posted a great article on scanlines which is illustrated with a lot of pictures:

http://scanlines.hazard-city.de/

He was actually able to force the Xbox to output 240p with the aid of a scan converter.

Again thank you for your contributions.

Mednafen is great but it bugs me that XPort set the default parameters to chop off the top and bottom of the screen on NTSC games. If you can port an emu that doesn't require me to fix this on every single game I launch then you've got my vote.
That will be fixed with the auto config feature I'm adding to the emu's.  Just set the configuration the way you want it, turn "auto config" to on and all games that does not have a configuration will use your settings.

Tell you what... Help me get blarrg's NTSC filter working in Mednafenx_NES and you can do the synopsis code.  wink.gif  I could send you mine if need be, although it is geared towards x-port's frontend.  Plus it could probably use a little bit of cleaning up.

Actually it doesn't really matter to me...  But if you could get a "proof of concept" working in MednafenX_NES I'd be grateful.  I have my hands a bit full with everything else right now.  Trying to meet that march deadline..

Sounds good to me. I can see that sorting out a few problems with dodgy default settings in XPort emus.  happy.gif

As for the Nestopia port; I like the sound of the NTSC filter, but I'm hoping it won't be necessary to set the screen size individually for every game as it is in FBL.

FBL has a great synopsis feature that nes6502 added himself.  It is possible that he could just do the same for the Nestopia port, which would be ace.  I like the way it's handled in FBL, but I'm sure it's handled well in the Madmab Editions too.  They can all coexist in my opinion.

Any ideas on an official name for this port yet nes?

If he used the same system for the synopsis that he used for FBL we couldn't help him with ours.  His synopsis is one file per game.  Ours is one file per emulator.  There is no way I'm re-writing all of that or trying to split it up myself.  I've only got about a month and a half left in my self imposed time frame and just for NES that would probably eat it all up right there.  I don't have any interest in adding another 1,730+ files when we only need to add one.

This is why I likely won't be doing work on the synopsis work for FBL when I get to the arcade stuff.  I'm not familiar with it and it seems pretty complicated and like it's a lot of work to properly put together.  I hear that Genesis games play on it.  I'd be happy to let somebody rip the info off of our Genesis synopsis for use with FBL's synopsis feature, but that somebody has a big job ahead of them.   cool.gif

Personally, and with no disrespect to the way that NES did it on FBL, I think if it's added we should just do it the same way as the XPORT emulators, given that it hasn't even been created yet, might as well make it work with what is already created.  It would be pretty nonsensical to split up a perfect 2MB synopsis file into nearly 2000 parts.

I'm sure he did it beautifully and the end user isn't any the wiser.  It's just that you'd be taking a nearly perfect thing that had many hundreds of hours of work put into it and having to figure out a way to break it up and do it completely differently.  If it can be done, and there is a desire for somebody to put in the effort, by all means do it.  You have my blessing 100%. I will not be a part of it though because I will not spend any more time on something I believe to be perfect already. If the synopsis is added and it's implemented like it is in FBL, then NES is going to need the communities help to get it working.  I can't imagine that it would take longer to code it to match our synopsis than it would to break everything up to match the FBL synopsis system.

I know I don't code, so I don't get the same respect that NES and Madmab and XPORT and others get around here, but I'm willing to bet at this point that I've put more man hours into the box than anybody else has just to get the coded features working to their full capabilities.  I'm not demanding anything here.  I'm simply suggesting that since the majority of the work has been done already that it should be easier just to build the code around the finished work.
