Does Anybody Know How To Use Ti99?
« on: January 10, 2010, 02:03:00 PM »

Though this probably won't make it, I will consider the TI99 for the Xtras.  It seems to be to computer-based for me, and I'd imagine I'd be making a ton of controller configurations to get it working.  I'd like to at least be able to fire up a game or two and see how much work it would be and if it's worth it to me.

Every time I load any game my only options end up loading TI Basic or Extended Basic.

Anybody ever get this one to work?

I'm too busy with other things for the project right now to be reading manuals on it.  Thought somebody in here might be able to give me the quick and dirty on it.

Thanks,
~Rx

How so?  Would there be a lot of controller configuring?  I won't do it if there is.

Maybe I have bad roms... Whenever I start one up it's nothing like what you're talking about.

LOL... Did Bill Cosby sell these things back in the day?  I don't remember that.  He never did on the Cosby Show or Picture Pages.....

"Cosby wants to do another Picture Page with you!"

Youve probably seen a pic of the machine. It used cartridges and cassettes. The TI99/4A i had used "Basic" then there was "Extended Basic" which i cant remember if it was an add-on or new machine. I never actually used cassettes and i only every had about 8 cartridges as they were expensive. With cartridges you just plug n play and i think there was only one (not sure) button so no configs there. As for the cassettes i really cant comment. I presume they could use the keyboard or would detect if you had joysticks. After playing a few cartridge based efforts on the emulator i deleted it all as the games are dire. For 4 - 6 yr olds mostly and thats not knocking anyone, thats just how basic 'n' shit they were. In fact even today's kid's wouldn't touch em. TI Invaders was good, then again Invaders is Invaders no matter what platform. Your choice. Could be opening Pandora's box as far as config's go or it could be easy. Your call !

Hmm looking at that games list i'd say you could use your time doing better things res! I can't imagine anyone wanting to use this emulator, CBA GY doesn't like it and he used to own one of the things!!

Maybe return to this once all the extras are done as an update?

Bill Cosby, LOL

Most of the Xtras are "done" now, but there are certain things that I will be doing with some of them that need to be done from scratch anytime I do them, like converting artwork to the new packs, making datfiles, and some other things I want to do with them.

While I'm working on other stuff, I just let them sit there in a near-finished state while guys like Stupot and Excalibur add new games for me that I've missed.  Stupot has been very good about sending me videos for any new hacks/translations as they come out too, so while they're technically "done", I"m leaving them open until everything is ready to be wrapped up.

Definitely on my plate:

1) Testing the new betas madmab has sent my way in the last month or two.  C64, Bandai Wonderswan, CPC & Supervision.

2) Cleaning up the entire set of Atari 800 stuff I have and determining what is going to make the cut.

3) Put together a somewhat limited release of what PSX stuff I've managed to do over the last few years.

4) Figure out what roms will make the cut in the X68000 set and put Xtras together for it.

5) Finish cleaning up NES boxart (the only major set left that needs touchups)

6) Make Xtras for CoinOPS and FBL's newest versions.

Maybes:

1) Put together manual packs for the systems I haven't done so yet.

2) Make a TI99 Xtras pack.

3) Make it so only one video plays in the background for VMU and Chip8 since it is almost impossible for me to make videos for either of these systems, yet the artwork and synopsis are complete for them.  (This all depends on if madmab is interested and if he can bend the code to do this).

4) Figure out if I'm going to tackle any more systems before release.

I'll update the "Current Status" portion of my thread in a few days when I get a few more things done.

Yep... think I'm putting TI99 on the skip list.

I finally got some roms that work with it but the PC emus are so touch and go that recording videos would be a real pain in the ass...  Plus there would be about another 200 plus games at least that I'd have to make videos for, collect artwork for and do the synopsis for.   They really don't look worthwhile and are a bit before my time.

LOL.  Hell no!  laugh.gif

I know you've configured a game or two on that guy before.  It's a monster of a pain.

I think I have like 5 games working on that, including Alone in the Dark.  That may be all I ever do on that one.  I think it took me about a month to get that game working with music and sound.
