Hey Cbagy,

Gilles9999 provided the screen sizes for 720p and I did publish them here:
http://fancyxbox.inf...=1&secao=screen

Scroll down the page until you reach a big table with every emulator and their respective screen size suggestions.

Best regards,
Cospefogo.

Im a 37" LCD HD user Frank and i have black borders to everything also, so im used to it.
I'd rather have that than squashed games any day of the week.

Those with a history of using the actual PC emulators that the Xbox emulators are based on will be right at home with a slightly squished image and crystal clear picture.

What it boils down to is personal preference.

I personally find shimmering textures and excessive blurriness much more of a distraction than black borders, while some feel exactly the opposite.  That's why having the option to choose between the two output methods is important as it keeps both sides happy.

One thing we may all agree on is that a perfect solution simply doesn't exist on the Xbox (i.e. a full screen picture without blurriness and shimmering).

Not trying to proselytize you, but look how's the Genesis screen appear in HDTV.
Imagine that on 40 inch LCD and the black borders just doesn't bother you smile.gif

Those borders are to be expected with a widescreen TV. And how to properly display games on a 16:9 TV is an entirely different discussion. My comments so far have been based entirely on how games would display on a 4:3 TV.

Not to derail this anymore but just wanted to say two things...

1.  Awesome that the last eight posts here were back on topic and constructive.

2.  I think me and Ken are totally cool now.  Just some dialectal differences, compounded by the normal misunderstandings that come when people read stuff wrong.

Peace and love and good luck finding the holy grail of perfect aspect ratio on the XBox.

Yep.

That's why I'd like to see somebody come up with a way to code something like this into the XPORT/Madmab emus.

Maybe something like a "Perfect Aspect Ratio" within the emulators.

Maybe even 3 or 4 different "Perfect Aspect Ratio" that would span 4 different TV types.  I'm sure there are many more than 4 different "types" of TVs, but with 4 different choices for this, there would be as much versatility for ratios as there is for filters now.

The catch is, the guys and gals heavy into this would have to come up with the information to make it work in a format that could be controlled by the emu.  I'm not saying that madmab can/will do this with all that's on his plate now, but I'm just saying that if he did, we'd need people to put something together that would work with the new emulator settings.

Just like the synopsis and the Xtras  cool.gif

What do ya'all think?

EDIT:  About my last post, it probably wasn't a dialectal issue at all.  It was probably me just misreading things with the other drama going on.  Not only here, but I heard some bad news personally last night and probably shouldn't have been at work, let alone getting into posts here with the current drama.

Alright hoss... here's yer kiss.   jester.gif

Ya know... I remember you PMing me something about a kiss a few months back.  Didn't know it was your way of saying things are cool.   I don't know much about your posting history and I'm sure there's something behind that which I don't know.

I just thought you were making fun of me or were totally blitzed off your rocker that night and just ignored it.

Sorry if you had any bad thoughts about me before man.  Never did about you.  Just jumped all over what you said in this thread cause I'm really protective and sensitive about our work since it means so much to me and I know almost nobody else I work with wants to engage in that type of stuff or even appreciates it in excess.

Congrats on your near mastery of what I have to assume is at least two languages man.  Pretty much the only words I know in foreign languages are curse words and I'd probably look like an idiot if I tried to spell them out here.

Later bud,
~Rx

Hey Likklebaer,

I was mean to you before.  Sorry for calling you little girl.

I know you probably don't want to be treated any different for being a woman in these forums, but hell, you know I'm going to feel bad about it anyways so here's my apology anyways.

Hope you can be friends with a guy who posts to much and doesn't realize how much dumb things can be said between the important stuff without an editor around eliminating the frequently superfluous and occasionally undesirable dialogue.

We cool?

You're wrong. I want and expect special treatment. Everyone should bow down and worship everything I say and being female simply emphasizes my superiority over the rest of you.  tongue.gif

We're as cool as ever we were. Rest assured if you ever say anything I find genuinely offensive or upsetting you'll know about it. Nonetheless apology accepted and appreciated.

Okay, so you're a dominant female with an artistic mind that enjoys video games and speaks with a British accent.

Special Video Modes
Two special video mode attributes may be applied to the modes described above. If the D3DPRESENTFLAG_FIELD flag is specified, the back buffer size is assumed to be half the vertical height of the output display. The output format is also defined to be interlaced. In this mode, the even lines of the display are rendered during one field and odd lines are rendered during the next field. The flicker filter is disabled. Field rendering can reduce the fill-rate and bandwidth requirements of a game substantially, but because there is no flicker filter, display quality can also be significantly degraded. Note that field rendering is supported when the Xbox HDTV AV Pack is installed because 480i is allowed.

Do you know of any existing Xbox software that uses this mode? I'd like to see it in action to get a better idea of what it means.

All it is referring to is the different xbox resolutions including 10x11 Pixel Aspect Ratio paramater.  But note what it says about the flicker filter being disabled..

I never used flicker filter. When I had the standard composite cable (the old' AV cable) I just used BILINEAR setting to remove the flicker on the pixels. Bilinear presents a more subtle blur than the flicker filter at level 1. And YES, YES YES, I know they are totally completely different things. But when I switched to Component Cables (SD TV/4:3/480i) simply, even with bilinear OFF there is no flicker on my screen. 480i combined with a good adjustment of brightness and contrast on a CRT TV brings nice pixels to everybody!
