Notes:

- This is not a ultra-super-complete list of games, the titles listed
here are the most famous and the most important games, or - the
games I really care about and play. I really don't mind about the
missing titles, so if you can't find a game on the list, don't lose
your time asking me if I have more info about it.

- To learn more about how to setup several Mame CoinOPS to be able
to have the games running on their native and correct screen aspect ratio,

I can't be ok with you likklebaer,
when you compare the left screen (correct pixel ratio, and the right screen (stretched to fit a 4/3 tv)

(IMG:http://img37.imagefra.me/img/img37/1/11/12/f_19tjdu4oprm_a031ab3.gif)

You see the left screen was the original screen disigned by the artists;
In fact the videogames artists at time didn't have in mind how exactly their games would look on a crt tv (there was so many differents tv's in all the countries...)

So for me it is very important to play with the correct pixel ratio to enjoy the original work of the graphic artists...
It's the same if you compare a dvd film, and say: most people look dvd'd in stereo, but if you are a purist you will enjoy the film a lot more in 5.1 (to appreciate the  work of the musicians on the film)

p.s.: i'm a veteran member of the pixel perfect world sect of guru Cospefogo since the beginning

Any chance we could get these implemented in CoinOps so we don't have to program this stuff on our own?

Hey ReX!
No chances at all.
BP said he really will not implement such a feature.

My dream is a CoinOPS that handles the screensizes just like Xport emulators.
Every game could have its very own sreensize with no need of any kind of XBE hacking or other trick.

Best,
C.

your right pic is stretched (circles aren't circles; and the floor grid is strectched too)
ok with this, but YOU CAN't have this on our xbox without BLUR(xbox resolution is different than a snes, of course) at least you can't have this if all the filters (software and hardware) are desactivated
The only way to have a stretched "correct" screen would be to use a hardware filter like "bilinear"
but Cospefogo and me (and many others for sure) we totally dislike the BLUR produced by all those filters on our standard tv (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif)
That's why if you don't want this damn blur and if you want a sharp screen, follow the cospefogo guide (IMG:style_emoticons/default/pop.gif)

p.s.: i totally understand if a lot of peoples like to play with a lot of filters, it's a different way of thinking  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

I wont add in the feature the way people wanted cause its just plan silly...I said I could in minutes add a switch to use defualt res with no scaling ( also the switch would turn off filters and center it) and for Cospefogo to log onto MSN and work with me for a few hours to get it in. This never happen (and was requested to do so more than once) but it did happen with screenrotation someone had the same deal with me and he had it in the build in about 10mins. I can lead a house to water but I cant make it drink (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) its silly to resize every game when you just want the scaling turned off IMO

and yes I have no desire for this stuff at all otherwise it would have been in, but i need someone test this and also this was the same with player 2 control switching patch and more

Yeah.  It doesn't matter much to me either way.  It would be nice if somebody put this information to use for us though.

2 totally different goals:

(Left images) Because you're running the emulator, not the original machine, you FINALLY can make it to look how it was 'made to be look'.
Circles will be circles finally. No other distortions. And goddammit NO BLUR!!. Definitely my choice.

OR

(Right images) You want it to look as close as possible how it appeared on the original machine.

Obviously blur is noticeable in those shots above. But when I test it on my Xbox I really can't see a big difference between the pixel-perfect settings and bilinear filtering, Simple2x, and flicker filter at 0. Both look equally sharp to me. Maybe it's my eyes. Any chance of some comparison screens with these settings?

And of course the vertical size should be the same with either method. Since only the horizontal was stretched on the original video output.

Your screenshots all have a black background and so conveniently don't show the ugly black bars that would appear either side of the screen on a 4:3 TV. When we compare the same with a couple of bright games like Super Mario World or Legend of Zelda things look quite different.

IPB Image ...... IPB Image

IPB Image  ......IPB Image

The reason the SNES was made to stretch the image to fill the screen is because nobody really wants to play games with unsightly black borders at the sides. If my SNES had looked like that when I bought it, I would've taken it back and traded it for a Megadrive.  tongue.gif

Yea those settings shouldn't cause any blur.

EDIT: Oh I retract that, you using bilinear filtering, which indeed cause some blur too.

I kinda gotta agree with Likklebaer on this one.

My eyes aren't so hot.  I can barely tell the difference between the shots, let alone during gameplay.

Even my blind eyes can see those bars though.  Never been a fan of letterbox.
