This was a fairly large operation to fulfill, and equally tedious. Good job everybody.

This is awesome. Great job. I wish someone had done this with B5, cause I don't have a computer to download 5.1 CE with, or this, or to put it on my Xbox, so yeah, I'm stuck with B5 for a while. Great stuff though. Any ideas for improving performance with B5 without a computer?

Thanks for the interest meditator  smile.gif  How can you live without a computer!? blink.gif

Anyway, you have a few options for improving your surreal B5 with either the settings from this list or with the surreal.ini file. They are:

1. If you can get to a computer with a cd/dvd burner with xiso installed, then you should be able to download the ini file, burn it to an xbox compatible cd using xiso, and transfer it to your surreal folder using the file manager on your xbox. (Note. I haven't actually tried this but assume it would work)

2. If you can't download the surreal.ini and/or burn it to an xbox cd then you are going to have to just check the list for any games that you want to improve, then input the settings manually using the game-specific settings menu. You bring up this menu by pressing 'X' on your xbox controller while the game is highlighted in the surreal rom list.

NOTE: These settings are designed for Surreal 64 XXX B5.1 CE. Some settings such as the max video memory are fixed in B5 and can not be changed. Also note that in B5 both 1964 and PJ64 use PJ64's max paging memory setting, so if you want to change 1964's max paging memory you need to change PJ64's max paging memory setting.

Hope this help  smile.gif

I love the n64 and Xbox so I'm always interested.

It's not very easy, I can assure you. My computer was stolen so my options are limited. Posting in forums is tiring, as often, like what happened just a minute ago, I have to repost because I press post and it just doesn't work. At least on this site I don't have to put up with a mobile site that doesn't let you use the real site. Opera Mini makes my life simpler.

Now, as far as what I can do, I can't access computers with internet often. I'm not sure the next one I access will have a burner, but I will, when I can. About the games themselves and such, I'm no stranger to editing ini's or getting down in the nitty gritty, so if editing any plain text file will help, just gimme good instructions and I'll do it right from the box. Is there any way, by editing or creating any text file, that I could edit the max video memory, or any other setting CE gives you access to? Also, what are the optimum settings for these games, since I don't think I can check the list in an html only browser: (All (U) [!] versions except the last one) Mario Kart 64, Pokemon Snap, Pokemon Stadium, Star Fox 64, Super Mario, Super Smash Bros., and The Legend Of Zelda Ocarina Of Time Master Quest? Master quest, I'm not sure if it's a goodrom, but it works (quite well in fact), it's detected by Surreal, and I have the little GameCube disk with it on there, so I'm happy. Also, if you have some extra time, could you explain the Video Settings, and how they affect the quality and performance in game? The only one I understand is Texture filter which makes textures more defined or blurry, which Linear (blurry) makes Zelda look a lot better than something more defined. Thank you very much. I look forward to getting a new computer and being able to help the scene once more. Also if you wanna know my settings for a game, just ask, cause the ones I have run decently, at least one player. (Testing two player this weekend with my bud) Thank you for assisting the scene. I hope 1964's new source makes Surreal run better than ever!

Oh, just thought of this. Have you thought of adding this topic to your sig? Just a thought, that way you could just point people at your sig instead of having to copy and paste the link repeatedly. smile.gif

Is it not possible for you to use linux on your xbox....

Obviously if you dont have it installed that may be a bit of a problem. However, if you do have it installed then i know i've used it to get me out of a few sticky situations in the past.....from downloading torrents, to updating my corrupt xbmc install...

If I had it installed, it'd be an option. I don't though. I think the next big thing I'm doing with my box is upgrading the hard drive. I need to do that before I start thinking about installing linux. I haven't ever even used linux, so I'd need to figure it out before I even considered installing it on my Xbox. I wouldn't want problems I'd have no earthly idea how to fix. Thanks for the idea and support though.

With Ocarina of Time is there anyway to show all hearts? For instance, I have 4 heart containers and only 3 of them appear.

AFAIK the last heart issue shows up in both Ocarina Of Time and Majora's Mask and can't be fixed yet. My opinion on the matter is that since it's one heart, which can be partially full, the emulators won't display it because it can't do 2D stuff very dynamically. It's not really the last heart though, It's whichever heart you're on. If you have 12, and you've got seven and a half hearts, the half won't be shown, but the full and empty ones (the other 11) will be. I hope that clears it up.

a couple improvements...first, sorry i guess DDR hangs at start with 1964. pj64 loads fine with rice 5.60 though.
second, i cannot load super mario 64:the missing stars. is there something i am doing wrong? it showed up at first as sm: the missing stars or something, but then changed to unknown after i tried to load it the first time, which froze my xbox. third, super smash bros runs at great speed, but doesnt load certain graphics. for instance, the hand to select characters does not load for multiplayer. also, in single player, your enemy does not show up on the versus screen (for instance, samus vs link, on the prebattle screen, samus, your player shows up, but link would not). also, credits do not load. and on the single player, the difficulty select is invisible. pj64 loads all of these correctly with 5.60, but with default settings, lags incredibly.  was anybody able to get ssb to run on pj64 with good speed?

Mine runs decently. Minor slowdowns on screens with multiple enemies, but everything shows up except things like Samus's Charge Shot. My settings are PJ64, Rice 5.31, 16 DynaRec, 2 Paging, JttL, but I run B5 so those settings may not work for you. Oh, I've found that Hyrule Castle, Link's level, always causes slowdown. The level itself takes up mucho memory.

DDR Disney has worked for me before on default settings. I found 1964 with rice 5.10 to be faster than 5.60. And 1964 a little faster than PJ on 5.6.

However after it ran once, it began to hang every time. Almost as if the game running was a lucky fluke. Which is why I didn't post any results. I assumed it could work if I messed with it more. But for now, it hangs.

I am considering switching to a different rom or something. But it may be some time. My work takes precedence.

@Bender_Unit_1
I had thought that DDR worked on 1964, hence I posted it as such. However, like you said, it hangs every time now in 1964 at the title screen. Weird. PJ64 for now I guess.

@dnyce1987
Yes, I extended the ROM and applied the patch correctly. I redid the entire process just to make sure, but it still just gives me a black screen in 1964. No load, freezes everything. PJ64 can load it though...this is kinda starting to bug me.  Is anybody else having problems with ROM's not loading on 1964 as they are supposed to? Also, what title does The Missing Stars show up as? Mine says "Unknown"

Also, for SSB, I forgot to mention, on the third challenge (the race) in single player, the camera does not follow your character, making the level basically unplayable.  The camera simply shows a point near the center of the map and stays there.  Pausing and unpausing the game temporarily recenters the cam, but it is still stationary.

It has just come to my attention that while creating the surreal.ini file I was not aware of the importance of the formatting of settings when entering them.

Because of the way the emulator 'reads' the settings from the file, the formatting must be as follows:

Preferred Emulator=0
or
1964 Dyna Mem = 18

not

Preferred Emulator = 0
or
1964 Dyna Mem=18

This has meant that some of the settings (not many, but a few) that I have entered into the surreal.ini, will not register as the default settings for that rom  grr.gif .

I will be correcting this very soon. I may even release it with a (very slightly) updated version of Surreal that I am working on wink.gif

I have not noticed this glitch before. Could you please be a bit more specific about which emulator, plugins, and character you were using when you experienced this?

This is with the 1964 settings from your ini file. I believe that I was using Pikachu at the time.
