All these skins should work fine with videos. I just haven't positioned them because I only use screenshots. But as cbagy says it can be done via the skin's ini file.

Here's a very basic SNES skin for Zsnexbox. I've never played with skins for this emulator before so apologies if anything doesn't work right.

Nice skins, Likklebaer.

Would you make a skin for the NeogeoCD Emulator - NeoCDSDLx ?

As far as I know NeoCDSDL-X isn't skinable.  sad.gif

Hey Likklebaer,

I really love the images you use, but I agree that there isn't much left to manipulate here with the backgrounds.

I was wondering if you'd consider splitting the controllers and consoles from the boxes where they're joined.  I recently used a Spinning Dragon image Frank made in a different emu and it looks great there too.

I think we'd all benefit from images such as the dragon and your controller and console images which could be placed anywhere in any skin.

I just think it would be cool for the end user to be able to mix and match their favorite elements from any skin out there, and your images would be excellent for that.  Maybe we could create a basic sprite collection that could be dragged and dropped into your skin if you liked the image...

I'm not much of a graphic artist myself, but I did have 4 years of art in high school and always loved creating things since I was a kid.   I know a good deal about placing elements to use space for functionality as well as asthetics.  I have some ideas about how to use your images in my current PMIII skin setup (gilles' skins), but they can't be used with the boxes attached.

I don't know... maybe you'd like to keep these things to yourself, but I've been spending years working on my project and sharing it with everyone.  I was hoping you'd find some of that sharing spirit within yourself and give your blessing to use your images in other skins, and share images that would work for that purpose.

Later,
~Rx

@MM?

As I've mentioned several times, these are not my images. They're taken from various Hyperspin and Maximus Arcade themes. Therefore it's not up to me to say what you can or can't do with them.

The sprites as they appear in the skin are mostly unaltered images from the original themes. So it's not like I have separate elements that I'm holding out on anyone. If you want to try and separate them for whatever reason then you certainly don't need my blessing to do so.

But as I've said before, as far as I'm concerned the layout of these skins is already optimal and the lack of pointless clutter like boxshots is entirely intentional. But if you think you can do better than I have with them then by all means go for it. If your versions really do look superior I'll use them myself.

I can't separate them though.

Some of the images have the boxes on top of the controllers.

I don't have these images myself.  If somebody has the hyperspin graphics unaltered, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks  cool.gif

Yeah.  I've been to that site before, but I really don't want to have to sign up for another membership for all this work, specially since skinning is largely out of my realm other than tinkering with other peoples stuff and doing all the testing on Gilles' skins.  I'd rather not get myself involved too much in yet another project either since I finally see the light at the end of the tunnel now on the Xtras and I'm actually kinda looking forward to re-joining life outside of this project someday in the next 6 to 8 months.

Plus, I don't want to go there and get depressed at how much double work my team and team hyperspin has done in the last 2 or so years.  Seems to me like they're very behind in the video creation up to this point (at least according to an online spreadsheet I saw for the project), but they have a lot of spruced up and/or HD Boxarts I'd like to get a hold of.  Probably a lot of other stuff I'm better off not knowing about since if I like it I would probably jump in there and start working on something else.  (Like how I just airbrushed the hell out of about 30-40 LYNX boxarts over the weekend)

Wish I knew about hyperspin back in the day before your skins (and the LYNX boxart that bigby posted on my thread yesterday).  I think we could have saved each other a TON of time and effort at one point, but I think we're both beyond that point for the most part now.

I'd love to see some sort of image repository, or even just a large zipfile, created for sprite images that can be used in these skins at will.  We did that with the wide icons in the last few months now and have a spreadsheet that correlates with the images and gives credit to the authors of each one.    It really took me a ton of time to collect that stuff off of about 15 threads and organize it for ease of use for first timers that want to try them out.  Then nate came in and did a hell of a job cataloging it in the spreadsheet behind me as I went along.   You should check it out if you like the wide icons likklebaer.

Cool to see you're intrested Gilles.   cool.gif

I know what you're saying madmab and for people making skins that want them to have the widest appeal you're quite right. But as I've already mentioned, these skins were made for me and my personal tastes, not for anybody else so flexibility is pretty much irrelevant. Of course I have no objection at all to gilles9999 or anyone else creating more 'flexible' versions if they think it's workable.

I only regard boxart and such as clutter in context of skins like these which are very busy visually to start with. When used with gilles PMIII skin or cbagy's skins boxart can look nice since the skins themselves are less visual. Perhaps a happy medium is possible and if so I look forward to seeing it.

You have more chances of playing Duke Nukem Forever than anything so idyllic ever existing in the xbox scene. Wouldn't have it any other way though.  biggrin.gif
