Do I Need To Bother With A Tsop Flash
« on: October 02, 2003, 05:12:00 AM »

I have read the various pinned articles etc but still a bit confused.

Not sure if this should go in this forum on in the Exploit forum...sorry if it is in the wrong place...

I have a 1.0 XBOX which I have succesfully Exploit modded (using Mechassault and then Bert cheating on Ernie fonts) so that it is now running Evox and I can run XBOX Media Player etc. I have also hex edited my msdashboard on my E: drive so that I can run that if I need to via Evox. I also own an original Mechassault game and Action replay.

I have read somewhere about a Clock problem whereby if the XBOX is left without power for a while it goes into an infinite loop or something and cannot boot. There seems to be conflicting views on the other forum so I thought I would check here as the people here seem to be best informed. I am worried about this problem wrecking my XBOX so this is what is making me consider soldering the contacts on the XBOX and then flashing it.

Do I need to bother? Will the Clock problem cause me problems or as I have hex edited dashboard will I be alright? OR since I own Mechassault and Action replay will I be able to recover from the Clock problem.

If I do need to flash my TSOP am I right in thinking I just need
1. solder the 2 points on my XBOX,
2. get a BIOS file and stick it in C:BIOS on the XBOX
3. and then use the Evox Bios Flash option to flash it!
4. OR do I need to use raincoat etc? If so can I just ftp raincoat onto my XBOX and then telnet onto it?

I have various BIOS files like x2_4973_1.0.bin, EvolutionX V2.5.bin, x2_4975_1MB.bin , X2_4977_02.bin - will any of these do the job?

Many thanks for any replies. Genuine apologies if these are answered elsewhere but I have read loads of different articles till my head hurts but just not sure and I cant afford to break my XBOX as I damaged a PSOne many years ago when I got it chipped and my missus still hasnt forgiven me (it was the first release PS one - I think I paid £200 or £300 for it!!)

If your scared of wrecking your box, soldering is not the way to go, although it is simple. Anyhoo, I flashed mine with 4977 so i didnt have to worry about the whole clock problem/MS updating and the exploit not working etc....

1. Yup, solder the two points (easy, yet still dangerous)
2. Yup, just make sure you make it 1024K
3. Yup (cross your fingers)
4. Yup, use the 4977 or get Evox D6+MP

Good luck and do some more reading on the subject if your still uncomfortable.

Sorry a bit confused
You answered yes to points 3 and 4 but my question was an OR question.
Let me get this straight...

1. I can flash with the Evox menu option by putting a BIOS file in C:BIOS folder and then using Evox to do the flashing and I do NOT need to bother with raincoat. You say cross your fingers which suggests that Evox is not as reliable as Raincoat.

2. OR instead of using Evox menus I use raincoat as an alternative - a safer option?

Thanks

Ok - just found the Noobs Guide to Flashing with Evox in the Software/Xbios forum. Things seem much clearer now.
Thanks.

Flashing a bios is never "safe", you always run the risk of a bad flash (freak power outage, tv explodes....) no matter what you use, evox or raincoat, I used Evox with no problems and it was very easy, and went well (thank god). Just put the bios in your c:\bios folder and go nuts.
