I open this new thread in order to talk about our progresses in emulating Sega Saturn on the Xbox.
The messages where we were talking about it have been deleted, because in fact we were using an incorrect thread (at the begining, our discussion was related with that thread, but later it was a different thing).
So, I am going to try to explain what we have seen: in order to run Yabause (or any other emulator) in the XBox, we see different methods:
1) Port it to Xbox (this methods needs that the source code of the original emulator was available).
2) Run Linux in the Xbox, and run a version of the emulator for Linux.
3) Run Linux in the Xbox, and run Wine in that Linux... and execute the Windows version of the emulator.
Of course, the first version is the best, but sometimes there isn't people with enough knowledge interested in doing it, mainly because we are not sure about the performance of that hypothetical port. So, if we manage to execute the emulator in Linux, at least we will have an idea about the performance, and if making a port is doable.
Well, let's speak about Yabause now. At the moment there is nobody working in the option "1" (porting Yabause to the Xbox), so we tried to do the second option: executing it in Linux.
We use the XDSL distro, and we had a problem because Yabause for Linux comes in "package" format, and XDSL seems to not recognize "packages". Our last attempts have been trying to extract the content of this package, or trying to compile the source code of Yabause under XDSL (or under DSL in a PC) to get an executable that we can FTP to the Xbox.
I hope that we can post in this thread our future progresses, and everybody who wants to take part of our "investigation" is welcomed.
