kinda neat.  how was the performance on the xbox tho?

the xbox having such limited RAM and CPU power, i cant imagine that running an emulator in an OS under these condidions would yeild high quality results.

still tho, i havent tried it.  can you give us some info on how it ran, and with what games you tried?

as far as "achieving" an important step and work tho,(this isnt about you ravey, either) - guys, he just tried an emulator in wine.  he didnt code this out.  i'm just makin' sure you noticed.  wink.gif

Well, regarding limited RAM....thats what the swap file is for in XDSL...

And what my intention is getting Yarabause loaded...but speaking to the author in IRC chat, the way DSL is, I have to take the source of Yarabuse, and compile it under DSL...

And then hopefully can just have automatic linux loader for Yarabuse, just like xmugen was done....

But, the one who created that linux loader for xmugen, R1sky, is no longer around...

And to be honest, I've been talking with the programmer of FreeDo in obtaining the source codes, and asked if he ever ported it the linux..and his response was

" Not entirely, but code was modified and compiles on gcc now. i'll be
able to advice on the tech details behind it."

I'm not a coder myself, just a person with interest...so if there is interest, with someone with know how....

And what is the obstacle that you faced when running Freedo in Wine? Seeing at the screenshots, it seems that everything went ok... Maybe the game was not recognized? Have you tried to mount the unit where the game was stored?

HCF - i know wine isnt an emulator.  the FreeDO is an emulator, and that is what i was getting at.  i have read all the same stuff youre talking about, HCF.  that "sometimes its faster" but i'll ask for your own personal experiences on that.  when has wine ran faster than normal for you, hcf?  on the xbox, preferably.

HCF, the screenshots supplied are just showing the loaded up emulator.  which is why i was asking what the performance was like, and with what games.

as for limited ram, we also have a limited CPU.  im just saying, im not shooting holes in anything for anyone, but i cant see how the performance would be that great.  the DosBox platform is pretty terrible, and thats with old DOS games.

but, im just saying.  i havent tried it out.

specs of the 3D0 according to wiki:
http://en.wikipedia....ive_Multiplayer

i dont know what kind of a system load on the xbox DSL has, but it might be operational.  the 3D0 did run off of a RISC processor tho, which is an architecturally different system than the x86 based processor.  i dont know anything about system programming, tho.  i know the xbox with DSL has issues with sound and video depnding on the model of the xbox, so operating an emulator  from within linux on the box will have drawbacks.

it is cool tho, id like to see some gaming screenshots or videos.  it might be pretty sweet.  i know there was a zelda game ported to the 3D0, and it would be cool to be able to play it right off the box.

Just so you know, the only person to "port" XMugen was Alg5, me and r1sky have just modified the config files to make it simpler for people to use.  R1sky is always in #xmugen on EFnet; he's pretty much the only one ever there, so he's still around.  I'm not sure what distro Alg5 used as the basis for the original XMugen, but if bc54 ever finds a way to get the joystick mapping working correctly in XDSL, it would be a simple task to run wine, or any other app from there.

You're thinking of the Phillips CD-i. The 3DO still has a few games worth playing though.

osmorphyus, I have never used Wine over Linux in a Xbox, so I cannot tell you about its performance. It's clear that there are a couple of better options than using Wine:

1) Trying to port the emulator to Xbox

2) Compile the source code under DSL or XDSL and execute it in Linux (without Wine).

But sadly, at the moment these options are not available. At the moment there is nobody involved in porting Freedo or Yabause to the Xbox, and as far as compiling in DSL, I am trying to do it with Yabause (I wrote it in the other forum) but in the case of Freedo we don't have the source code, so the only one chance that we have seen is using Wine.

In any case, as I said in my previous message, I don't think that performance is going to be very worse using Wine, comparing to the option "2)". Furthermore, if we see that using Wine the emulator goes at 80%, we would have a great motivation to go for options "1)" and "2)"  smile.gif
