Hmmmmmm..... we do have one issue that we should probably discuss sooner than later guys.

Since there are pretty much two different ratios here (vertical screens and horizontal screens), what do you think is the best way to handle this?

There are some games with the set labeled "Artwork" where the artwork on the sides of the old school vertical cabinets like Pac-Man show up, giving it the same ratio as the horizontal games like TMNT and the Simpsons.  Unfortunately, only around 85 of them were done that way and I don't know what we'd have to do to get more like that.

Suggestions?

Just as I suspected, this is going to take a LOOOOOOOOOOOONG time to convert.  Between 4,000 and 4,500 videos here lol...

I've just got them converting from AVI to WMV now, I'm doing about 800 of them at a time.  If I remember right there will be abends and I'll have to keep babysitting it from time to time.

Once I get the WMV's done I'll sort out which ones are in the favorites lists and start getting them uploaded.

QUOTE(ressurectionx @ Jul 15 2009, 06:35 AM) View Post

I was wondering if there could be a way where XBMC could load back to the folder you loaded a .CUT file from when you exit the emu.
...
It would be cool if you launched a .CUT file and when you exited it brought you right back to the spot you left XBMC, like if you were to watch a movie or TV show and it brings you right back to that spot when it's done.

A bit off topic but I tried figuring this out. I dropped xport a PM to ask him if his emu's launch the dash when exited with any parameters that could be used from within XBMC to determine if it was an xport emu that launched it. Still waiting.

Really all it would need to know is, if it was an .xbe that launched it or not. If it was, then have it activate "ActivateWindow(MyPrograms)" like when you click on "Programs" in the main menu.

If you use "B" to back out of programs, it will go through each level. When you click Programs again, it will start out at level 1 (where you can add a source).

But if you hit "Back", it will drop you at the main window. When you click on Programs it will take you to the folder you where in before you hit Back.

So activating "ActivateWindow(MyPrograms)" on startup after launching with a .cut should put you back in the folder you where in when you launched the .cut because you didn't use "B" to back out.

If there is a way to determine that XBMC was launched from an XBE, it should work. Or recompile each emu and tell it to pass a new param that can be picked up by XBMC to trigger it sad.gif.

As far as getting stuff added to the SVN, don't hold your breath. You can try, but I've been told that since the XBOX version was dropped - chances are slim on getting anything new added sad.gif.

If you could find the time to talk to madmab and explain exactly what he'd need to do here that would be great.  I'd rather have this dependent on the emus themselves anyways, that way we could keep updating XBMC without any problems.

I'm real dumb when it comes to this stuff so most of that was over my head.  cool.gif

Thanks for the suggestion though.  It would be awesome to see this come to life.

Please no artwork as my code doesnt allow for it... unless you choose the setting to stretch all previews... but then all vert game need to have artwork or blackbars....

Please leave artwork out... same sizing as orig in xmv format......

if you can start with the all time classic 100 games that would be a great start ... then the hot. Then maybe the full dats supplied.... then maybe a full set you may do one day

WARNING Big project smile.gif to do all games that can be played and rekeymap etc
Also log on to MSN and ill give you a BETA tommorrow night NZ time.... its all going including aspect ratio features etc and at good speed

I've got about 1,400 horizontal games converted to WMV now.

It's really a pain in the ass because when I'm converting I can't do anything else.  I went online and finished up the editing of the licensed US games for the NES synopsis and it killed the conversion program 6 times.  I just rebooted and got it going again.  I'm going to take a break from the synopsis work today and see if we can get all the horizontal games converted.  Then I'll get those ones you requested out to you.

I think they might be downgraded from the originals just slightly, unfortunately.  I don't know how to edit the conversion program that was created for me a year ago and it's the same ratio we've used for all videos for all systems so far.  I don't think it's much of a downgrade, but I'm pretty sure it went from something like 320x??? to 256x???.   Overall, not really noticable, but the thought of finding somebody who can fix that ratio and then re-doing he 1,400 videos that are already complete is not very appealing to me.  It wouldn't be a problem if I could do my other work while this was going on, but it's really screwing up my free time to get the NES stuff ready for release.

Any luck putting together or getting somebody else to put together datfiles for the two "best of" lists BP?  Right now if I do anything on my PC while that conversion program is going it will make it crap out.  That includes even moving files around.

Nevermind.  I didn't see you posted twice until I already finished this post.   cool.gif

Later,
~Rx

You've seen the videos that were converted BP.   Did you really notice a difference between the AVI and WMV files in terms of quality in your emu?

That's exactly how these are currently being converted now.

I figured out how to make it 320x240 (the original size).   I'm converting everything that hasn't been done at that ratio.  We'll decide when it's done if we should go back and re-do the 1,400 that were already done.  If we do, I'm not going to be interrupting my other work with them and they'll get done when I go to sleep.

The vertical stuff was recorded orginally at 180x240.  I will alter the program when I get to those as well.

You said that you know how to handle the ratios with your code, so I won't alter them from there.

Just fyi...

Horizontal will be 320x240
Vertical will be 180x240

Hey BP
I believe this is the program: avi to wmv converter
be sure and open the profile to change the aspect ration. I had it last set to 640 x 480.

That is the converter, but there's a whole Windows program you need to install that is against forum rules to post I believe.  The converter won't work unless that is installed.  I have it installed, but I don't have any clue at this point where the install files are.

Like I said, I figured out how to change it.  I'm converting the AVI's to WMVs at the exact size now.

320x240 for horizontal
180x240 for vertical

Nothing we can do to make them any bigger since that's the original sizes.

Plus, you'd need the 10GB of AVI files if you were going to do any converting, and I'm not about to upload all of them to megaupload just for that.

Later,
~Rx

P.S.   Got 1,400 done at the bad ratio (256x220) and now we've got about 700 with the good ratio (320x240).  I'm going to have to interrupt it pretty soon though because I need to get back to the NES synopsis work.

"Windows Media Encoder 9" or above is the program, I believe.
Many people have it on their pc's and don't even know it. I am sure a guy like BP is aware of it. smile.gif
by the way.. this is exciting!

Something weird about files I'm going to call pseudo-horizontal.  For some reason I did notice that a bunch of the "horizontal" videos are for vertical games and the bars are already added on the sides.  I have no idea how to crop those and I really don't feel like making this project any more difficult and time consuming than it already is.

This wont' be a problem, right?

Ummmmm.....

I don't get it.

The horizontals are all going to be 320x240 now, so that's fine....

But...

The vertical ones are natively 180x240.

You want me to try to make them 25% larger, is that it?

I don't know if I can do that, but I'll try.  It might be a bit blurry since the originals are smaller than what you're asking for.

this is silly talking on a forum.... if they are natively that res then dont upscale them smile.gif can you send me some avis....

once you sent me some files and sfa3 had 2 res one in higher res than the other....

if you send me some base files I can tell you but you should get on MSN really as this will take forever and you are disconnected with the coding side.... so you may waste time untill its clear on what should be done

I'm not big on the MSN thing because I'm doing about 12 things at once and it's just an annoyance to me.  I know I have an MSN account, but it's been about 18 months since I logged on to it.  I'll have to dig up the screen name I used when I get a chance.  In the mean time, PM me your email and I'll send you some AVI files so we don't have to do the whole megaupload thing.

I'll send you the ones you mentioned before and a few samples of other vids.

You want them in AVI format, right?
