Neogenesis Problem With Sega Cd Music And Cue Sheet
« on: June 27, 2009, 12:19:00 PM »

Well, the good news is you're not the only one.  I also couldn't get EWJ along with several other Sega CD games to work with sound no matter what I tried so I did what I always do.  Track down another image.

I finally had success with EWJ Special Ed.   No idea why the regular wouldn't work but the special edition iso/mp3 did finally work with sound.

Hope this helps.

Yeah man..... it's kind of a crap shoot with disk images.  I really don't know much about .CUE files except that some seem to work right and others don't.  How many of the "bad" ones are really problems with the image itself is anyone's guess.  Most of that stuff is way over my head but I kept blitzing the project and there are only a few games I couldn't get to work after acquiring multiple images to try out.

Makes me wonder how many of the "bad" PSX games are only having problems running because the image has a problem with it.

Good Luck,

Hey all, I decided to mess around with Neogenesis again after a long layoff.  I've run into a problem with the background music not working on some games like Earthworm Jim and Mickey Mania.  This is for Sega CD obviously.

I played the normal Genesis version of Earthworm Jim, and then loaded up Kega, and it works fine there.

I thought maybe it's because I'm not loading the cue sheet, so I tried that and the game won't load.  In fact none of my games load from cue sheets.

I'm using v23.

My cue sheet looks like this

To get your background music working with problems on SEGA CD games
like this, follow these instructions:

- Start your game in question, pressing the A button on the "cue" file, (make sure its the CUE file)
- When the Sega CD logo comes up, press the B button to enter the config screen with a
  CD player interface.
- Click on "Memory" and press the A button again to enter another menu with 2 "FORMAT" options.
- Do both of these Format options and save the results.
- Go to EXIT
- You will be back at the CD Player interface now, click on "CD-ROM" at the top.
- You will now be back at the Sega logo screen, wait a couple of seconds & the game
  will start with Music......Voila!

Happy times   biggrin.gif

Aye Rez, regarding PSX games, I do know for sure that certain image types like MDF/MDS's will sometimes work if you convert them using Magic Iso to Bin/Cues.  And other times MDF's will work just fine.  It's a crap shoot.

Yeah... I did notice that too.  I got a few MDF/MDS's to convert fine and others didn't work.  Then that brings up a few questions..... were these messed up because they were ripped in MDF/MDS but a few were salvagable? Would the game work if ripped direct from a CD to a more compatible format?  Is the game just unusable in the sourcecode?

LOL.... With all I've taught myself, I probably only know about .001% of stuff there is to know about the XBox.

Oh, and I forgot guys...

I don't use .CUE files with this emulator.  I don't even have them anymore since the emu takes care of it.

Here's my setup....

Name of the folder:
CD - Earthworm Jim Special Edition

Name of the ISO file:
CD - Earthworm Jim Special Edition.iso

Name of the mp3 tracks:
CD - Earthworm Jim Special Edition 02.mp3
CD - Earthworm Jim Special Edition 03.mp3
CD - Earthworm Jim Special Edition 04.mp3
CD - Earthworm Jim Special Edition 05.mp3
CD - Earthworm Jim Special Edition 06.mp3
CD - Earthworm Jim Special Edition 07.mp3
CD - Earthworm Jim Special Edition 08.mp3
CD - Earthworm Jim Special Edition 09.mp3
CD - Earthworm Jim Special Edition 10.mp3
CD - Earthworm Jim Special Edition 11.mp3
CD - Earthworm Jim Special Edition 12.mp3

etc., etc., etc...

and finally....

CD - Earthworm Jim Special Edition 28.mp3

That ought to get you up and running.  If you make the folder the same name as the iso file than when you scroll to the folder you will see the boxart too!

Hope that helps,
~Rx

Don't hate on the xbox emulators just because you can't be bothered to convert your bin/cue to iso/mp3.
(which is done so very very easily with burning programs like Nero and a mounting program like alcohol120)

oh noes the emulator doesn't run my bin! the xbox emulators clearly don't cut it!!!@!#$@!#@!

ahum, excuse me while i lol.

XBox is the best for 99% of your emulation man.  You just got to find the right stuff.

The ISO/MP3 way is much better anyways since you will use a lot less hard drive space per game than the BIN image.

EDIT:  Hey Vamp.... you ever check out any of my Xtras?

I got Alone in the Dark working on DOS with the music, btw... I know you checked on that for me back in the day.  If you are interested I can hook you up with the configs.  Just PM me.

I'm sorry but emulators like Kega have far more support and have less graphical glitches than it's xbox counterpart.  Kega actually runs 32x CD games like Night Trap and Corpse Killer.  This is true for all emulators, the Xbox just doesn't have enough support.  It's great for most of the games but there are some games that I'd like to play that are just not supported.

really... I mean REALLY?! laugh.gif

Can you give me an example of a 32X CD game actually worth playing? I mean there are only 5 games...

The sensored version of Night trap?? Slam City with Scottie Pippen???

lol

Yeah... with all the testing I've done just about 97% of the games for any system work.  Just a few that I'd like to play that won't play right, but except for Xenophobe on Atari 7800 I really don't care about any of them.

If you're looking to play N64 or PSX, you'll probably do better on a PC for a lot of the games if that's your thing, but the XBox is the best place to play anything from the late 70's right on up through the mid 90's and all the arcades from that era too.

I think you need to work harder at getting better images and configuring the files.  From somebody who's tested nearly every console game on the Box, I can say that aside from the CD/32X issue on NeoGenesis, PSX and N64 games that your statement has no merit.

P.S.... Night Trap will play.  You just need to use the CD only version.
