Another Way To Organize Your .cuts
« on: June 24, 2009, 05:26:00 PM »

First off Thanks to Frank Morris for being the first to explain this process to me.  What you do is use a PC based emulator to capture the logo sprite of the rom you're interested in, then use your favorite image editing software to select the logo and place it on a transparent background.  If any of you care to do this for yourselves just keep in mind you want the selection tool not to anti alias the selection so you have nice crisp sprites.

So you start off with this...

Then take a few minutes making your selection and placing it on a transparent background layer and you get this...

Then you make a folder named Rampage and then name the transparent PNG you just made to:  Folder.jpg Now whenever you browse to that folder you'll see your rampage icon and should look something like this...

Ok, now here's where the fun part begins.  Since Rampage has been such a popular game and is on many different consoles, each of which having different box art you get to make your little Rampage Category museum section.  And it might look something like this...

This is just a different way to organize your .cut's.  I personally prefer the box art over wide icons since you get to see so much more of the illustration and as there is some excellent art already made.

Of course this is just one gaming franchise example.  There are many many others like Super Mario Brothers, Contra, Jurassic Park, Choplifter, Bomberman, Kirby, Wonderboy, TMNT, SmashTV, Shinobi, Strider, Ninja Gaiden, Metal Gear, Bubble Bobble, Tetris, Paperboy, Xmen just to name a few.  Each of these franchises have games released on different consoles over the decades, each of which having different box art.

For Example one of these franchises might have been released on Atari, Msx, Gameboy, GBC, GBA, NES, SNES, GENESIS, SMS, PSX and more.  So when you're in the mood to play that franchise and you have them organized by category it's quite easy to play the old Atari version then jump to the NES version and then maybe finish with the later PSX version all in the name of nostalgia.   After all that's kind of why we're collecting all this stuff.

So if you want to properly organize these franchises this might be what you've been looking for.
