Madmab Edition: New Feature.... Alternae Favorites
« on: May 20, 2009, 01:54:00 AM »

We will soon have the ability to load up alternate favorites lists.  This is a great way to upload your own favorites lists for a system, but I think it would be a great way to include professional "Best Of" lists from magazines and websites.

If anybody wants to help with this, let me know.

For now, since the code hasn't been completely implemented or tested, I'm not sure exactly how it's going to work.

If you guys know of good links for best of lists for any systems, please post them here.

Just be sure to list what system it was for, what type of best of list it is, and who made the list.

Thanks!

~Rx

P.S.  Don't bother compiling any lists yet, because I don't know if they're going to be usable in its final form.  I'd like to see a way where we can designate numbers to the games so they show up in numeric order instead of alphabetical order.  Madmab hasn't said if this would be possible either way yet, but he seemed to like the idea.  Doesn't make much sense to have a top 100 NES games list if they're shown in alphabetical order, does it?

For now, just post good lists up here for us to use in the future.  When the code is out and tested, I will change this top post and let everyone know what we need.

Thanks guys,

That's exactly what I was talking about.  When I first had that idea I thought I just thought it would be cool if we users could share our favorites list with each other, but then I got to thinking it would be a great way to put official lists like this together.  Hopefully madmab can figure out a way to display them in the number order like this too for each list.

Please feel free to add more lists.  I can't imagine a list like this would be too difficult to put together once we have the ability to display them and know how to format them.

Well I was thinking maybe what to do is add an "edit" option to the pop-up menu for favorites and then the user can move items on the list up/down to place them in the order they want.  And then modify the code so it wont sort alphabetically unless the user requests.

That would work... if it were VERY hard to accidentally sort alphabetically.

For somebody like me, it would be very easy to get another copy to transfer to the Box, but if one of my bros or friends accidentally does this, they would have to fix these lists by hand or have me fix it for them.

Actually... I think there should be no way to sort them alphebetically at all.  There would be no reason to do that in the favorites lists.  However the user creates them, would be the way they should be viewed.

I suppose in order to make this work, there would have to be an edit option in the first place though.  So the user could theoretically move the order of the games in a favorites list in this menu, but otherwise, the favorites shouldn't be sortable.

What do you think?

Hey guys,

In my opinion a favorite list SHOULD BE in alphabetical order list.
I don't like to have games locked to a BEST OF order.
This has no meaning for me. It makes no sense at all.

Why, for example, is Super Mario Bros better than Castlevania III to be on the top of the list?
It is like to compare vanilla ice cream with pizza. Both are superb.
You can't put #1 in front of pizza and #46 in front of Ice Cream.
They are different things, even being "eat-able food".

I think, besides the numerical Best Of order, it is very important to have a alphabetical sort method.
There is nothing worst in the world that search for something in a list of titles that is not presented
in alphabetical order. This is one of the most basic principles of ergonomics.

So, please, consider having both sorting methods.

Regards,
Cospefogo.

When you make your own alphabetical list, it will remain alphabetical.

What good is a top 100 list in the order of that specific list if it's in alphabetical order?

One might think that Chiller was a better game than Super Mario Bros III that way...

so i was wondering about this is this (best of list) gonna be similar to what we have now a favorites list (meaning its gonna be in the same spot above or below the favs list)  im guessing its gonna be coming out with the new betas is there any way we can turn it off=have it not show, cause to be honest im contemp with the favorites list and wouldnt really need to know what games are good or not i understand its helpful for younger gamers who grew up with the xbox or 360 and dont know what from what but i dunno i think its a good idea as long as you can turn it off no need to clutter the main emu menu + i know im not gonna use it so if theres an option for it not to be visible then i think thatd make better cause at the end of the day we all judge games different "i may like this but you may hate that"......just my 2 cents..
