Oh, okay.  Thanks BB. (and Madmab for clarifying)

Uploaded a new version.

This one has an extra batch file, that allows you to generate the ROM listing via your PC instead of using the python file in XBMC. Doesn't matter which way you do it, just pick whatever's easier...

Also included a config generator for MAME, that bulk-writes config data for games detected (made by run088's request). It works much the same as the CUT creator (hence why it's in the same pack), but I'm not overly sure what you do with the output.

Ditching the python script is music to my ears.

Great update bud.   beerchug.gif

EDIT:

Ooops... there was one more problem we haven't addressed.  Currently the image converter converts the Title Screenshots to a directory called "Title".   Could we please change that to "Titles" since that's what madmab's emulators expect if you're using Enhanced Artwork?

Thanks again bud.  This program is great.

Should work with Ez0ne's stuff. I'm pretty sure I even tested it at one point or another. The builds prior to his work don't support shortcuts at all.

Is there a way that we can make it so that it checks all sub-directories and makes the .CUT files in the sub directories for us?

"GenerateDirectoryListing.bat" now has this feature. I'm too lazy to do it in Python if I can avoid it.  laugh.gif

P.S.  I'm still a little foggy on how to use the new feature from the PC.  I must be using it wrong.

The batch file generated a listing for whatever folder it's in, same as the PY script does (the documentation did mention this!  tongue.gif). You needed to actually run it from your ROM directory - it wasn't really my intention for people to edit the batch file, and changing that fake "ROM path" only alters what appears in the listing file, not what folder actually gets it's contents listed.

For those who don't have the actual ROMs accessible via, say, Windows Explorer, it's useless. Though it appears you have your collection mirrored on your PC's HDD, which is the sort of circumstance it's intended for.

Still, I forgot that the CUT creator doesn't prompt you for the correct ROM path as the X-Box will see it, so there was no documented way to get it working properly - I didn't think it out as well as I could've done.

Anyway, thanks to the more complex code behind the sub-folder scanner, the new "GenerateDirectoryListing.bat" is indeed supposed to be executed from the CutCreator folder (but you're still not supposed to try to edit it!), and prompts for the paths required when you run it.

I guess you mean that image sorter I wrote, so here you go.

Man.... almost there.  What we got is great so far though.

I'm hoping this last request isn't too difficult.

I was hoping that now that we have the ability to scan the sub directories for roms, could we also create those sub directories in the output folder and place the correct .CUT files in the sub directories so the file structure for .CUT files looks identical to the file structure from the roms they're created from?

If we get that in there, all I'll need to do is figure out how to do sub-directories when I make the datfiles.

Hey bud,

I keep getting an error now that says

"Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NullPointerException at CutCreator.main<CutCreator.java:311>

Any ideas?

EDIT: to be more specific, I get this error anytime I run "CutCreator.bat"

I'm finally ready to start making .CUT files

I remember hearing something about a version of XBMC which handles the .CUT files much better and caches them differently.

Could somebody please discuss this with me so I know I'm doing the best shortcuts on the first try?

Thanks,
~Rx

Take another look at the CUT creator documentation - the different caching styles (and versions of XBMC) are discussed there.

For the question I missed, I got version 8.10 Beta 3 (Compiled: Mar 15, 2009)

Program Plugins wide icon worked in that version.   happy.gif

EDIT:  Yeah... I see the documentation now man.   I'm a bit ineberated now and I was looking at the MAME specific one and not seeing it.

If I have any questions about this I'll let you know... otherwise I should have XBMC .CUT files for all Rx 1.0 covered games using the 3D Boxart that Cbagy and Bigby worked so hard on.

Thanks,
~Rx

EDIT 2:  I still haven't figured it out, but I'm going to start fresh again tomorrow and at least get the first set to work.  From there I was hoping I could work with you to tweak a few things so that this is easily configurable from system to system like we made the artwork converter.

I'm a little concerned with the *.TBN files though.... The 3D boxarts seem to lose their transparency when I view them in Windows (I haven't gotten cuts to work in XBMC, so I don't know how they look there yet).

When I sit down with this again tomorrow I'll give you more of my thoughts on the subject.

Later,
~Rx

I only viewed it in paint and it looked like there was no tranparancy.

I'll have to try it in other porgrams and XBMC when I get the cuts working.  That makes me feel more positive about it though.  Thanks cbagy.
