Neither work. I just get a black screen.
...
I've tried this cut with and without a rom path. Though I'm not sure how it's intended to work without a rom path, unless it just checks the default rom directory.

I'm looking into it. Have you tried unzipped? Extension shouldn't matter, but is it the same? Have you tried clearing out your "E/TDATA/a64fea57/" and "E/UDATA/a64fea57/" folders?

EDIT: ok I figured everything out but now my emulators list is messed up since xbmc displays n64 as a folder instead of a xbe Nintendo 64 is ontop instead of alphebetical order! Anyway to fix this?? If not I will launch surreal the normal way to keep a neat setup.

You mean the name of the emulator in the Programs folder using XBMC is different since you replaced the xbe? Have you tried pressing the white button and renaming it back to what it was? Not really sure what you mean by "xbmc displays n64 as a folder instead of a xbe"? Do you mean the image is missing?

xbmc displays my N64 folder with the cut file on it as  a folder on top since its does not find an xbe.
...

In the left pane of the XBMC window, try arrange by file. The way I have it set up is like this:

This one has the actual emulator and roms:
F:\Emulators\
F:\Emulators\Nintendo 64\
etc...

This one only has cut files:
F:\Games\
F:\Games\Nintendo 64\
etc...
F:\Games\XBOX\ <-- no xbe in root of this dir

Either way should work, the later is "cleaner" imo.

The shortcut in the "F:\Games\Nintendo 64\" folder would look like this:
CODE

    F:\Emulators\Nintendo 64\default.xbe

    F:\Emulators\Nintendo 64\Media\boxart\A03CF036-635A2BFF-4EAA3D0E-D6FBA4A8.jpg
