CoinOps is a release of the MameDox emulator which has support for a LOT of games.  Every game supported has its controls setup correctly too.

I'd highly recommend it.

It's replaced both mame128 and FBA-XXX Pro on my xbox.

I replaced Mame128 with it aswell, I never used FBA-XXX tho, but that's about to change once the version by nes6502 is out. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
CoinOPS is great and the best MAME experience you'll get on XBOX, period.

But, seems the author isn't comparing it to FBA, more or less to Mame...

Found this

I cant add this to coinops full build sorry as it requires new dats (should be pretty easy to update standealone). But im starting a new FBAxxx total remake and I see bonks adventure can run in that if the core is updated so cross your fingers.

Seems he was creating a FBA-XXX update...Is this still happening?

I had a mame that I updated to coinops several months back.  Has there been a new release in the past month or so?

CoinOPS is by far the best MAME emulator on the XBox, some will still argue this point, but most have come around with each update.  Since most of the FBA games were after my time in the arcades, I'm not as fond of them as I am the MAME games, so CoinOPS is my favorite arcade emulator.

They're really both great emus though.

I ran the CoinOps DAT over all the games in my FBA-XXX games dir and it had a match with everyone.  So I no longer have any need for FBA-XXX, it doesn't support any games I want to play that Coinops doesn't (for me anyway)

True, but I believe in threads I've seen here and elsewhere that some people do prefer FBA for playing FBA specific games a lot of the time.  Some subtle differences in performance that I'd probably never notice, but having both systems is a good idea if getting as perfect emulation as you can is a big deal to you.

Then there's always the kids that started playing games in the CPS era that didn't know a ton of the games on MAME and would rather just have the CPS to choose from.

Don'tcha love having all these options?

To clarify:

FBAXXX plays cps1 cps2 and neo geo games, mame emulators including coinops plays those and much more older more classic games... However, I believe that FBAXXX is known to play the games that it does, most notably the neo geo roms, much better than the mame emulators. I have personally compared many of the neo geo games as well as the cps2 games such as all of the street fighters and notice a substantial difference. In my opinion I would use FBAXXX for those games it plays and use Coinops for the other mame specific games. I do agree that Coinops is by far the superior mame emulator to date and use it a lot. But FBAxxx definitely should not be retired for it plays the games it does better than coinops and the other mame emulators.

Good to know cheers.

I was discussing this with someone and he was saying SFA3 was getting some slowdowns on some fights so maybe FBA-XXX will do better on those.

What would be great is for the frontend of CoinOps to be used on top of MameDox/FBA-XXX/New FBA nes is doing.

That way, you pick a game, it loads it with the best emulator and then when you quit, returns to the same menu.

fba seems to play some of the larger neogeo roms better like samsho5 and special but you cant knock mame for the sheer volume of games that are playable.i actually use a number of certain biulds of mame for certain games.
mamex-b6
narc
double dragon1and2
these games play best on this version, you dont get any of the jerkiness or slowdown that you get in the later versions of mame.

mameox0.72
mortal kombat1,2,3 and ultimate
rampage world tour
nba jam.
this is the version of mame with the speed hack so all midway games can be played with sound and play the way they should.

mameox128 plus
raiden fighters2(2000)
raiden fighters2.1
primal rage

this is the only version that plays any of the raiden fighters games and for any shmup fanatic i reccomend it.
coinops is my main mame emu,but its worth having these biulds for those games that had issues in later versions of mame.
competes2win i agree with you on your above post.

That's some good information there.

Would be superb if these arcade emus could be pulled together into (seemingly) a single emulator.  It may be the case that behind the frontend there are actually 4 or 5 different executables but to the end user it'll all run from the one emulator.

i see what your saying but i dont know if having 5 cores in one emu is a good thing or a bad thing,i think there could be a lot of problems with having multiple mame cores bunched together so to speak.
