Personally, I think the gameboy ones tend to look great with scanlines.  I wouldn't hose up your beautiful full color artwork with them though.

Nice work to everyone involved with this.  I hope this is a thread that lives on as long as the Xtras work does and one day we'll have a cataloge of thousands of wide icons for emulated games.

yep.... don't know why I like the scanlines on the b/w Gameboy icons, but that really looks sharp.  Hopefully it looks alright on the Box.  I've never actually checked one out on the TV since I've never actually come close to making .CUT files with the wide icons yet.  (Still got tons of my own project to do and hoping that there are tons more icons to work with by the time I get around to that part).

Nice work,

That sounds real cool man.  Less work I'd have to do on that end in the future.

I don't know much about XBMC development.  You seem in the know, or at least more than me....

I there anyone you'd recommend talking to about working a fix into XBMC that would force XBMC to load up at the folder that you chose to launch a game via .CUT file?  Madmab was able to reduce the load time for .CUT files on the NES from 15 seconds to 8 seconds time.  This would be even more perfect if when you launched "Metroid" from the NES folder in XBMC that it would bring you right back to that folder and position when you left the emu.

Perhaps there could be an .INI file with a flag that's turned on and the specific location written temporarily to it that would tell XBMC to load to that spot when the game is exited.  After loading the spot, the .INI could have the flag turned off and the location erased, waiting to be turned back on and have a new location written to it when another game is selected from the corresponding folder for whatever system is used.

What do you think?

Although I started this thread and have made many wide icons in the past I've changed my focus and decided to use box art to display the games instead of wide icons which in most cases are unable to properly convey the full impact of the games' art in that little sliver of wide icon space.

Gorgeous. Can't wait to see how they look in the upcoming skins, like Ex an Xperience.

QUOTE(greatant @ Jun 19 2009, 09:33 AM) View Post

Once my exams are over I plan on seeing if Leo2 (programs library dev) needs any help with the skinning side still. It's the last thing he mentioned on the xbmc.org forums and I figure I can help out.

Maybe I can mention it to him but frankly I don't think its necessary, nor do I think the main devs are going to add anything so xbox specific at this point. (Only one person is actually updating the xbox code)

I'd be interested in hearing your reasoning for it more specifically though.

Yeah man.... it's totally necessary.

I won't be getting around to much XBMC organizing for quite some time, but I want the XBMC to behave as if it were an emu itself when I get there.

XPORT allowed a switch in the emus that allows the emu to go right back to XBMC after exiting the game you loaded from XBMC, Madmab cut down the time to load NES in half (and I'm assuming we'll see similar results with other emulators), BombBloke made the .CUT file creator to make it easy to give every game in the Xtras XBMC representation, Everyone here is working on wide icons for the games and now we have a spreadsheet that Nate's keeping updated so we know what is already made, my Xtras boxart also works very nicely for XBMC representation...

The only thing we don't have is the ability to come right back to the folder we left off at when the game ends, the emu auto closes and XBMC loads back up again.  It's kind of bogus to have to navigate all the way back to the folder you want to play another game when it probably wouldn't be too difficult to just have XBMC auto-load right back to the place it left off at.  (I don't have to navigate all the way back to my 5th season of Lost folder to watch the next episode when I've finished watching one..... kinda like that)

Hope that clears up the importance of this.

Yeah... I don't really have the time to venture out there at this point.  I've put a post up about this somewhere in the XBMC forums, but didn't get any bites.  Maybe some day...
