4 Way Tsop Splitting On A 1.0
« on: September 23, 2003, 04:56:00 PM »

hey,
i was looking into setting up my 1mb tsop with 4 bios's and switches the wirring of the switches are easy but the problem is that i heard that u can only use bios's that are "version specific" that are special designed for a version of the xbox.. first of all is this true?  also i heard that hte latest xecutor bios that is version spefic is x2 4973 which is very old and not supported by xbtool.  I wouldnt' mind using x2 4973 if i could color mod it easily.  but i woudl much rather use x2 4977 or 4976.02.  Is this version spefici stuff crap or is it the truth, and if it is the truth is there a version specific x2 4977 or 4976.02, or even evox D.6 or M7.  Any help would be appreciated

its true, if you just ground the a18 and a19 points...BUT if you set up your switches liek this

you will have no trouble using any multibios of your choice like x2 4977 or evox M7

im guessing from this diagram and what i know of how the xbox tsop works this will only allow the xbox to view 256k at a time so that it doesnt' compare the x2 4977 to the first bios on the chip so i can use a mutlibios...but either way u are god and thank u so much i will apply some common sense and get this working.

Note that picture is no longer recommended. The Vcc should be connected to 3.3V, not 5V. The connection in the picture is not the 3.3V one so I guess its the 5V one used back when this mod was first devised.

Also, this procedure only allows for 256KB BIOSes but I know that X2 4978 at least is 512KB in size.

I posted a message on page 14 of the pinned topic "Multiversion Compatible Tsop Tutorial" in this forum, but I haven't gotten a reply yet.  If we want to split the BIOS into two 512KB segments, is it best to Ground/VCC with A18 or A19?

I presently have a wire hanging off of 3.3v.  I have lots of resistors handy and it seems that it wouldn't hurt to use one between A18 and A19 against Ground or VCC, but I'm not sure how many ohms the resistor should be.

All of that said, I'm using the Phoenix Boot Loader for now and I'm very happy with it.

Or use three-position switches.  This will switch A18 or A19 between GND, floating (back under Xbox control), Vcc.  The wiring's exactly the same.

Ideally you want two of them, this gives the following combinations:-
(Off = GND, On = Vcc 3.3V, Mid = middle position)

CODE
A19 A18 RESULT
Off  Off   256K bank 0
Off  On   256K bank 1
Off  Mid  512K bank 0+1
On  Off   256K bank 2
On  On   256K bank 3
On  Mid  512K bank 2+3
Mid Off   512K bank 0+2
Mid On   512K bank 1+3
Mid Mid  1024K bank 0+1+2+3
