I can tell by list you arnt using arcades as nearly(99percent) every issue bar no sound or runs slow is find in arcades just not in mamedox(I fix all that stuff). I look at the rest of the stuff closer soonish

also neogeo bio issues etc all fixed years ago

PS ill look at that stuff but for now I must move back to another forum where I have more control of stuff Id recommend you post there....as alot of this stuff I can see turning badly, and is best done in a closed forum as I can see im allready going back a year or 2 where I helped BAED and that pretty much died (you can down load that every rom is tested and done). Its no offense its just that the test has very little to do with Arcades, its all good info, but still all mamedox HK issues that ive said time and time again why ive done this build.

Sorry it sounds negative the work put in is very comprehensive and good, it just doesnt fit into arcades that much (saying that it has highlighted faults that I know are there and some I didnt). I know this very much fits into mamedox im sure. I know it sounds bad and I dont mean it to be, this is why I dont like public forums as people take stuff personally. I prefer just to get it done and forget about the politics which can make me sound blunt and short and in fact that is what I am trying to be on forums I just like to get stuff done if its needed and forums dont work for me as well other forms of messaging....So sorry to be negative this isnt the place for such things I know this

This is the comprehensive testing of mame on the xbox that ive I have seen by a long way and is invaluable to achieving better results of mame. It is also very time consuming id say hours and hours of work so I hope its not wasted for sure

anyways as im sure you can tell im not that confortable on this forum and ill sign out..... if I dont hear from the developer of this and cant work out any diffs I do wish the project all the best and if you want any quick help I can also give it to you. Good luck guys as the header says "Mameox128 - Working Romset Project" its well on track to fully achieving the goal

This project isn't dead, we just took it elsewhere and I'll update the scene when there's any notable progress.


So..... I'm assuming at this point that some of you have tried out the datfile by now.  What do you think?

I actually use that datfile with Arcades myself now and I've tested all 550+ roms in Arcades as well (I have a seperate spreadsheet with those results now).  Looks like about 10 games just won't play at all right now on MAMEdox Arcades that did play in MAMEox128 Plus! and another 30 or so work but would be nice if they were remapped.  When I think about it this weekend, I will post a link to rapidshare with the new spreadsheet that only has the roms not already included in MAMEdox arcades, the MAMEdox Arcades datafile and the datfile with the 500+ roms to add.  

Personally, I recommend using Arcades to play all of these.  Hopefully categories will be added someday soon, names in the GUI will be cleaned up on the added roms and there will be an ability to turn categories off and on, but I'm just hopeful about that at this point.  I certainly would not speak for anything that BritneysPAIRS intends to do until after it's complete.

Anyways... between the two datfiles, you pretty much have every game that works for MAME on the XBox now that a) worked with no problems from the start either system, B) works on MAMEdox Arcades after being fixed by BritneysPAIRS, or c) works in MAMEox128 Plus! but not yet plays in MAMEdox Arcades.  

I HIGHLY recommend that you do a little digging around and get the entire download for the MAMEdox Arcades emu and the rompack and then add your roms from the datfile I provided to that if you'd like to play the games missing (until the hopeful update).  I know this was originally titled the "MAMEox128 - Working Romset Project", but after very close inspection of both emulators and how the roms play on both of them, I'm thouroughly sold on MAMEdox Arcades as the superior emulator now and will not be playing MAMEox128 Plus! at all anymore, except on the very rare occasion that I might play one of the very few roms (about 10) that don't play on Arcades yet.

I'll keep in touch.  Any comments, questions or suggestions are more than welcome.  BritneysPAIRS is too busy to answer every little question here, but I've got some pretty slow nights at work where I'm happy to help anyone if I can.


P.S.   Please, if you add my romlist roms to your version of Arcades, and BritneysPAIRS has not updated Arcades to play them, don't bother BritneysPAIRS for support if you have questions.  BritneysPAIRS has never made it a secret that the "scan roms" option isn't supported and that any roms you add on your own, even including my dat, are not anything that is supported either.  Ask me, let me know about problems, and I will investigate when I get a chance.

Is there a way to automate the cleanup process with the .dat file, or do I have to print it out and go through it manually?

Also, is Arcades & the rompack at the "usual place" or do I have to do some Google hunting?

Hey underworlderZer0,

If you downloaded the zip I put on one of the previous pages with the datfile, there is instructions there in a word document on how you can use Romcenter to automate the process for you.  It will allow you to copy or move the roms from your existing MAME rom folders and put them all in a folder of your choice after it check them and you "fix" them.  The fix is actually putting every rom necessary in the clones like the (US) games or sometimes the Bootlegs when the main rom is bad.  

(Just copying the files by hand won't work because they won't have been "fixed", meaning that any rom included that is considered a clone will not have the roms from the "original" romset included and the game will not run.)

As for Arcades, you can't find it in the usual spaces.  Pretty easy to Google it though.  It might have taken me just a few minutes to look for it.  Hint:  Try "Mamedox Platinum 2" and then "Mamedox Platinum 2 to Arcades" to get both versions.  You need Platinum 2 before you can use the patch over it.  Platinum is around 3 or 3.5 GB I believe and the patch is around 500 to 550 MB (and may be broken up into 5 files. That's how I got it).  

Be sure to read the instructions included with the Arcades patch on adding it and then making sure that you add the TDATA and UDATA folders to your E:\ drive before playing too.  That apparently is an important step.  I don't imagine anything bad happens to your XBox if you haven't added the included TDATA UDATA files before loading the emulator.  Probalby just a blank screen, but since they make a point of telling you that, I wouldn't take a chance.  

After you've got the downloads and used the datfile on your existing roms you can play them all in Arcades after scanning them all in the emu.  I might suggest that the roms you add from my datfile you put in a folder named "new" in your roms folder and have the emu point to D:\Roms and D:\Roms\New, just to keep the two separated incase there is another update.

Kind of a pain to do all this compared to some of the easier emulators to set up orignally, I'll admit, but it's totally worth it.  I think this emu is 100 times better than the alternatives, and I'm pretty sure it's not done being updated yet.  It's really not all that difficult once you've acquired it and if you follow the included instructions on patching and uploading to your XBox.  Once you've done it once, getting an update and patching it in the future will be a breeze.

Have you abandoned doing a dat for Mameox128?
I ask, as I assume there will be certain games that made the cut, which don't make it into the arcades dat at any stage.

The SF2 hacks were missing from your v1 dats, I used to play some of these hacked versions in a local arcade, plus some rarer ones which aren't available in mame, I think they are beyond being considered as clones/generic hacks, so I would vote for them being included, although I would understand your reasons for not doing so.

I saw that certain working puzzle games (non mahjong) also seem to be missing, is there a reason for that?

Have you considered releasing a dat without the CPS1, CPS2, Neogeo roms, as these usually play better in Kawa-X.

I'm well aware that it's old, doesn't mean I won't stop using it either way.
You missed the point, it's is no big deal for me, as I'm using many arcade emus, but I assumed maybe others may want them included in the dats as well.

One thing which ruins many games in mame is having infinite credits.
To that effect I have a suggestion.

Have an option which can only be changed by editing an ini file (To stop people giving in to temptation while in the emu), which enables you to choose the max amount of credits you can use on all games.

Would be great if ressurectionx or someone else would pass this idea on to BritneysPAIRS to see if he's interested.

I would also be willing to code it for him if he is too busy working on other features.

At this point, yes, I probably have given up doing a straight dat for Mameox128.  You're probably right to assume that in the official build there will be certain roms that don't make it into Arcades, such as the hack/clones you mention.  If you want to put a list of games you would consider to be good that is not included in Arcades or the datfile I've made I might add them to a Mameox128 datfile.  I'll say that a working Mameox128 datfile isn't my priority anymore after the events of the last month, but making a separate datfile wouldn't be too difficult when I devote some time to it.

Again, if you have some examples I'd be willing to look at it.  I'd assume most weren't added because of slowdown issues, or because they're exactly like another game.  I'd have to know what you're talking about though to answer this question.

I haven't, but if you give me a list of these games, I could delete them from a datfile to make a working Mameox128 set that doesn't include them.  I could easily remove the neogeo ones myself, but off the top of my head I don't know what roms are CPS1 and CPS2.  Give me a list of games to remove and I can purge them for the datfile.  (If I take a look at it sometime on Sunday or Monday, this may just be a question of using an fbaxxx datfile to purge these roms from the MAMEox128 datfile.)  Like Xyteam said, I can't imagine why you would mess around with Kawax at this late stage in the game, but to each their own.  



I do like the suggestion for disabling infinate credits.  I'm not even sure if it is possible to do this though.  I could bring this up to BritneysPAIRS, but he's got a ton to do right now with what I've given him to this point.  I'll mention it later when we've gotten further along in the process.

Well I checked out the puzzle games, and saw that they were indeed clones, and it looks like the SF2 hacks are not supported in Mameox128, so I assume they won't make it into Arcades and obviously your dats due to that.

If you want them sorted differently/a custom app/script to save you further work let me know.

MAMEox128 Plus! is losing even more desirability.  I tested about 150 roms in MAMEdox Arcades that were to slow or had speed issues before in MAMEox128 Plus! and about 40 of them work in Arcades.  35 with no problems at all and about 5 need to be remapped.  

My recommendation ekszbox, is that you get Arcades and all the rom files.  I will make a datfile for all of the playable games in Arcades without the neogeo and cps roms so anyone can purge them if they'd like and you will have the best MAME emu with all the playable games that you can't use in Kawa or FBA.  Seriously, MAMEox128 Plus! is now officially a waste of time, several times over.
