Anyone Know How To Edit The Mame Arcades/platinum Skin?

Hey well I figured that editing the skin for this emulator would be as easy editing the png's found in the skin itself... However, when I edited them ( i just made it a red theme) the background pngs that I edited just didn't show up at all anymore... I believe it has something to do perhaps with the skin.ini file... anyone know what they're doing in these regards?
