Is that the only error you are getting?
I rememeber when I was setting Mugen up, I got all sorts of errors:
Failed to mount cd-rom, directory not found, etc...
The way I fixed it is to rename the games directory to Games (with capital G).
I did this by renaming it to Games 2, then changing the name back to Games,
(if I tried to just rename to Games, it wouldn't save the change).
Hopefully this may help.......

I think there was something like 4,785 different things that cause errors like this. I don't remember the exact message, but for me what causes Xmugen to fail usually is that I have a path typed incorrectly, or there's a capital letter somewhere.

Go over your MUGEN game and quadruple check everything, make absolutely, positively sure that there aren't any capital letters in any of the filenames, or in any of the files that refer to them. Make sure all the paths are correct, etc. and that there are no backslashes, ( \ )  just foreslashes ( / )

For example, the other day XMugen was crashing because I had added Balrog, made sure all the filenames were lowercased. Turns out in balrog.def it listed Balrog.sff instead of balrog.sff

and extract it to your games folder. then luanch it with unleashx and bingo. no setup require
