Wirelesss Router To Xbox Adapter + Wired Router
« on: January 24, 2004, 10:21:00 PM »

Okay I am a networking novice.  Here is the problem.  I have installed a wireless network that works fine.  I have a dlink 624 wireless router.  On the other end I am connecting an xbox through the xbox wireless adapter which is really only a bridge.  Connection is great and fine there are no problems.   The ip address I get is 192.168.0.103.  I can log on to Xbox just fine.  The problem is that I am trying to share the connection on that end with a replay tv.  Therefore, I hooked up a wired router to the xbox adapter(bridge). I tried configuring the wired router's ip address range to match the wireless router's.  Sure enough I get an ip address to the xbox that matches, but now I cannot log on.  Also, I tried disabling DHCP.  I still got the same ip address and cannot log on.  The XBOX port by the way is 21.  Do I need to open up a port on one of the routers or disable something or do something as far as passwords is concerned?  For further info, my wired router is an NR401 by Network Associates.  My Wireless is a D Link 624.  I have a 3ghz P4 with 1 gig of Ram.  This is wirelessly networked to a AMD 2600+ with 512k ram, and hopefully on another end to an xbox and replay tv.  Thanks for any help.

It would be better to use a switch in this case. Is this like a linksys or something? If I understand u; you have

                                                                                                   |--> Xbox
WAN--> DLINK Wireless -------------------| MS Xbox AP>|Router|>|
                                                                                                   |--> Replay TV

Well, if this is how you have it set up  .. are you connecting AP to the wan port on the router or just one of the switch ports? (im assuming this thing is autosensing) If you connect to the wan port .. they are probably both using 192.168.1.x and both the DLINK and the wired router are probably trying to be .1 .. Just bypass the router functionality of the one connected to the AP ... if you really want it to act like a router then you will need to assign the wired router a diff network ID like 192.168.2.0 ...

In any event, if it is the why I put it in my crude diagram .. just turn all that dhcp and all that off on the wired router and just use the switch ports; you really don't want to route anything except to the WAN .. hope this helps

I have a cable modem going to  a d link wireless that then goes to my computer.  Then I have another computer that is on the network wirelessly and is fine.  Finally, I have the XBOX ACCESS POINT (Bridge) That works fine when connected directly to the XBOX.  What I did was unplug the adapter from the xbox and hooked it up to a linksys 4 port router.  This way I assumed I could have both the XBOX and a Replay TV connected Wirelesly online on that end.  I turned off DHCP.  However, you are right, both routers want the same IP.  I changed the address on the wired router but still get intermittent functionality.  Are you saying I shouldn't use the WAN port...just the switch ports.  I am still having problems.  Right after I insert the XBOX Adapter CD it works for two connections, and that is it.  Could it be a password or firewall problem.  Any suggestions?

the cd? i havent used the xbox wireless adapter .. i assumed it was just an access point for an ethernet network with an xbox logo on it .. if you use the linksys as a router you will have to do port forwarding and ti will make it more complex than what it has to be .. are you getting link lights on the port on the linksys where u plug the xbox AP in ? i know if that where a normal AP this would be a non-issue ..
