Daphne Frame File Help
« on: December 18, 2006, 07:41:00 PM »

Hi everybody, Im currently trying to use the DaphneX.

I have all of the correct rom images and mpegs but i cant seem to understand how the frame file works.

I have tried using frame file wizard and all it makes for me is a txt file that is less than one line worth of txt.

nothing like the frame file examples ive seen posted here.  Can somebody please explain to me how to go about and make a frame file  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

I assume you're trying to get dragon's lair working?

this is my framefile (or a portion of it anyway):

CODE

.\mpeg\lair

150 dl-slates.m2v
323 dls00.vob.m2v
1366 dls01.vob.m2v
2044 dls01d1.vob.m2v
2085 dls01d2.vob.m2v
2133 dls01d3.vob.m2v
2213 dls01b.vob.m2v
2297 dls02.vob.m2v
2729 dls02d1.vob.m2v
2801 dls02d2.vob.m2v
2849 dls02d3.vob.m2v
2921 dls02d4.vob.m2v
2956 dls02b.vob.m2v
3041 dls03.vob.m2v
3349 dls03d1.vob.m2v
3421 dls03b.vob.m2v
.
.
.

...and I have a corresponding slew of m2v files in the mpeg\lair directory.

the key to the framefile is that 1st line which simply tells daphne where to look.
Depending on how many video files you've got, your framefile size may vary, so your framefiles might be just fine.  Do they have that 1st line?

Drop me a PM and I can work with you if you're still stuck.  Great little emulator that no one seems to give any love anymore.

then you're probably not reading what dahpne is telling you on the screen.  It'll tell you exactly what the problem is.

There are only 3 components: bios files, mpeg files, and the framefile, so it really shouldn't be that tough to get working.   It's a fine emulator-just wish the author hadn't disappeared so it could get some newer updates.

This is kinda a basic how-to for daphne.  You need three things to make daphne work.

1) The ROM-- check out the pc site for more info on those. They are very small (only a few KB)
2) A rip of the laser disk which comes as a .m2v (video) and .ogg (sound)
3) Once you get 1+2 you make a framefile which basically tells DAPHNE were to find the M2V file AND what frame to start on. The framefile is a .txt file using the same name as the game (i.e Cobra command is cobra.txt. Additionally the m2v goes in the COBRA MPEG folder and the ROM goes in the Cobra ROM folder

ex
.\mpeg\bega (this is where the file is located)

299 (this is the starting frame) bega.m2v (this is the name of the file)

once you have all that in place Daphne will parse out the video file and create a .DAT file which will be stored with your m2v and .ogg file

For the xbox version you MUST follow the file tree convention as described in the info file in the archive. i.e put the m2v  and ROMS in their respective folder named after the game and the framefile in the framefile folder

I have gotten cliff hanger, dragons lair I+II and space ace to work perfect using this method.  Cobra Command works but has a known bug that the dev never fixed.

hope this helps

M

PS- What game are you trying to get working?

I'll try to skirt around a sensitive topic here, but didn't the mpegs you ah, received, already have framefiles with them?  Typically they are built automagically by the tool that rips the DVD/LD and don't need any futzing with except for maybe the .\mpeg directory at the top.

I myself never wrote a single framefile by hand.  I'd suspect you should be able to locate them somewhere, otherwise they could easily be posted in their entirety, but they still have to match your particular m2v/oggs.

Do you have the MPEG and Ogg files?  Unlike other emulators the ROMS aren't the whole games for Daphne.  You also need a rip of the laserdisk which is usually a mpeg and an ogg file
