here's a wild idea...try using ONLY the MS controller first.  where did you get the installer?

Could I go offtopic for a sec (to save me from creating a new thread). Why can't I get xdsl to work using component cables on my xbox (progressive or not)? Does it have something to do with xbox versions (mine's 1.0)? The screen always tuns black, xbox led turns orange, blinks a few times then shuts down. Everytime I play xmugen, I always have to switch to normal av or svideo cables to get it to work. Any help?

change this in mugenboot.cfg;

title Kung-Fu Man
kernel mugen/bzImage
initrd mugen/irdloop.gz
append root=/dev/ram0 init=/etc/init rw video=xbox:640x480 kbd-reset

to this

title Kung-Fu Man
kernel mugen/bzImage
initrd mugen/irdloop.gz
append root=/dev/ram0 init=/etc/init rw video=xbox:480p kbd-reset

Nope, that doesn't seem to do anything for me. The xbox still shuts down whenever I use component cables, even at 480i

Seems everyone jumped over the obvious problem:

"./launch: 3: Permission denied"

Somehow the permissions on the launch file and/or the mugen executable got jacked up.  In your FTP program, browse to your XMugen folder on the Xbox.  Right click on the file/s (launch & mugen) and set the permissions to 777 or something.  That should fix it.

GB, will that have an effect on his component cable use?  this is an area you have far more expertise in, as far as running linux.

hi, by the way ;-)

Component cables work fine on everything else. The problem is with linux. Lol, I've had xdsl installed for a couple of months already, and still never found out why component cables do not work.

guybird is far more x-linux knowledgeable.  i bow down to his superiority in this area and suggest you follow his advice.

if you want it easier, hunt down my XMugen "Double Impact" set up, or check out guybird's xmugen site, and get another install of the core files.

Yeah, I also got ahold of guybird's mugen pack some time ago, and man was that one awesome collection! I think I've already tried your double impact pack (that's the one with unleashX right?), and it doesn't work as well there. I dunno, lol. I think its got something to do with the video chip on the xbox. I think I read about it some time ago on a thread about adjusting the screen size on xdsl, but I can't quite remember.

that's interesting...all it is was Guybird's last "full" installer mixed with the GenTooX setup for 128mb users.  it wasn't fleshed out very far on the guybird side since GenTooX needed the most scripting at the time and was my main focus to start....but it SHOULD work fine for you since nothing has changed from that pack at all, except that i added a skin and changed things related to UnleashX only.  Following guybird's "Screenpacks" that you can find if you know where to look, you should be able to drop them directly into my package and run them, though you will have to change where they launch from.

i run a 1.4 with 128mb right now, gentoox runs okay (xmugen still crashed on me occasionally, but i went full on the settings also, and never dropped back at all, using the original EVE) on 480p.  i can't run 480i, and it seems that 720p and 1080i do not show on my monitor while in linux.

either way, good luck.

and yeah, that ultimate pack was pretty crazy....i got that working on XMugen: Double Impact and enjoyed the hell out of it.

I seem to recall that some people had some HD issues with their Xbox's.  I know for a fact component cables work as I use them myself.  You can try booting with the "direct" launchers (used in the Unleash setup) or the GentooX loader.  One may give you better results than the other.  Beyond that, I don't think modifying the resolution in the configs won't really help.

BTW I have upped a lot of new packs and all have a larger swap file (700mb instead of the 512mb).  I'm also working on making a few other changes, and support for even larger swap files with those packs.

*blinks*

those look VERY nice....if my life ever stablizes again, i'll be sure to grab them.

not to thread steal, and not sure if you'll answer me, but here's an oddball question for you anyway.

i never finished telling you why i had hoped for support for another installation location (E:\, F:\ or G:\Simulators).  XBMC shows all the emus it finds and puts them together in a flattened hiarchy....great for normal emulators, but a little off with XMugen showing up among Nintendo, Sega, and Atari.  Placing it with Games causes even more problems if you have a ton of games installed.  XBMC team won't allow hard coded "Alias" folders the way UnleashX can, so the only way certain things are going to be able to work are by proper organization on a physical location level.

Would also be nice to seperate StepMania and XMugen from the rest of the homebrew, demo, and emulators, as they both have the same properties....both are engines that allow a simulation of a popular gaming genre.

anyway, nice work on the new formatting as well.  maybe some day we'll actually be able to work together on a no-configure solution that allows both 128mb and 64mb users to be able to use the same formats.

Hey everyone I don't know if this thread was ever completely solved but I searched to find an answer to my problem and it looks like this thread is as close as I could find.

OK, so I also can't get linux to boot properly. I'm using my component cables into a TV that's NOT an HDTV (not 480p, 720p, 1080i, or 1080p). It's just a regular 'tube' or 'CRT' TV that accepts component cables. Everything works fine using COMPOSITE cables and linux and mugen boot just fine, but when I use the COMPONENT they go to a double screen looking thing. Much like if I go into XBMC and I switch the hardware to send a 420p signal and everything goes double. Soooooo what I'm guessing is happening is linux recognizes the component cables and is sending out a hi-def signal, but my TV isn't really hi-def !!! Is there any way to use component cables on a non-hi-def TV (but accepts component cables) and get x-dsl and xmugen looking the correct way???

Thanks!!!
