Can't Flash St Tsop
« on: September 08, 2003, 04:05:00 PM »

I've recently been trying to flash the TSOP on my xbox.  It's a version 1.1 with an ST.  I've correctly bridged the two sets of points with solder, and I've checked, rechecked, and checked my connections again.  They look perfect.  The problem is when I boot up EvoX (with the font exploit properly installed) and select flash bios, it just says "Flash Not Writeable" :( .  I've tried everything, but I don't know what's wrong.  Do I have to flash with raincoat?  I haven't tried that yet.  Any ideas?

Oh, the bios I'm trying to flash is a 1MB X2 4976.02, so it should work.

Got:
Flash = 0x20f1,"ST - M29F080A",0x100000
Flash = 0x20B0,"ST 29F002",0x40000
or maybe
Flash = 0xbf61,"SST - 49LF020",0x40000
in your evox.ini ?

I'd try to reflash with the latest raincoat, I believe its the .501. Also, if you get a read error, than check your soldering.

Hey everybody, just wanted to let you know that my TSOP is flashed and 100% working with an X2 BIOS :D  After hours (literally) of resoldering and software troubleshooting and "Flash Not Writeable Errors", I was about to just say "screw it" and give up.  But then I read how I should clean the points with isopropyl alcohol.  So I removed all my solder, cleaned the points with the alcohol, applied flux, and resoldered.  Woohoo! It flashed in EvoX perfectly!  So if any of you are having problems soldering the points so you can flash your TSOP, clean the points with isopropyl alcohol before you start.  That was my problem.

Hi, i too have tried to solder the two points, but something has
gone wrong, now i cannot see the two points anymore ( the ones near the lpc points ),
first there were two little bulging points of solder but now they are gone.

Can i fix this with some cleaning with alcohol and then flux and solder again??

You may have removed the solder from the pads, or ripped them off.  If they are gone follow the traces to their source and run a wire.  PM me if you need help.
