Name This Rom, If You Can
« on: September 03, 2006, 02:07:00 PM »

You're skilled if you can guess this one, because I'm working from a hazy memory and thus a vague description.

The game was an energetic platformer

The game featured a small and cutesy character, probably a ninja, that could hurl (I think) stars. Somehow, he had an ability to climb the walls. I don't remember wether he could walk strait up, or used a grappling hook, or what. I remember this game being ridiculously fun when I was a kid, but I only got to play it for a number of hours, hence the vague memory. I believe that you could pick up new projectiles as you played.

This was a game on an extremely old computer system. Most likely, it was a commodore 64 or amiga. If you can somehow guess this game, you're a badass.

This sounds like 'ninja' on the C64.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Schoolwork has held me in a mental prison
I think you may have gotten it, but i'd have to try it first.
I looked up screenshots and it looks familiar, yet I can't figure out amiga emulators on the pc.
Can you walk or climb the walls in that one?

Also I think the little man may have been thinner and smaller, but this COULD be it.
It may have also had little icons on the bottom like turrican.
I'm gonna ftp it over now and scope it out, then tell ya.
Either way, that was a brilliant guess.

Update:
It's a challenge to test, because I'm not seeing how winuaex works either.
Zool gets to the "please press fire to start" screen (slowwwly)
And then no matter what you press on the xbox controller, nothing happens

You could always play the Sega Genesis or Snes version.

and if you really like Zool you could always buy an Atari Jaguar and the sequel Zool 2.

Yeah I tried it on Genesis, and I don't think it's the same game, but it's definitely fun.

I seem to remember the little guy being smaller and less busy on the decoration

I seem to remember a less slidy type of running, too

And possibly the projectiles having properties of fire, ice, or such

No, but that game does look funny as crap.

I'm glad I started this topic because now I'm finding cool games to try out.

The guy in this game was in more of a ninja-like outfit than a karate suit, and I believe he was smaller and less detailed than Dojo Dan or Zool. I remember the game being a bit difficult to play but having some kind of cool edge that made it worth it. There was either something cool about upgrades you could get, or something about taking out foes with a kind of sharp or stabby ninja move. There was something like that which made it stand out just a bit from other games at the time, but my memory is hazy on exactly what. I will say this though: There are some really excellent guesses in there.

On a side-note, there was one game that I searched for every day until about a year ago, and it was ironically, the c64 game simply called "ninja" that kimota mentioned. I played this other game at the same dude's house a few years later, except he may have had a new computer, like an amiga or something similar. I wonder if everyone has that obscure old game that they never find out the name of. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Just to clarify, this IS a different game than the NES one I'm also asking about.
They're both ninja type games
But this one is definitely on an old computer type system, rather than an NES
And this one is cool more because of something about the way the character pulled off  his attacks
He was a small character, and I only have a vague memory of the game, but it was extremely fun

I know where you're coming from... I loaded up the Zool ROM yesterday, and also don't remember the game I imagined to be so "slidy."  I may think of the game you have in mind later...
