Ok.

Star Ocean's sound is working,  but what about Dragon Quest I + II?  Can anyone confirm whether it's broken in either 2-28 or 3-29?

Thanks RMM.

2 other things to note : gamefaqs also has a "secrets" section with the codes. mostly of the time i add these as well, since they very often relate to codes / easter eggs and the like.

gamefaqs also list several different game names to the same codepage. use the name from the codepage, not the list.
This means if you are doing the letter C and a game starting by the letter M comes up when you click on the "code" link, skip it, it'll get done when letter M is done.

I did notice there were a couple of games that had a different name on the list verses codepage but I thought the reason it was named different was because it was released in another country under a different name.  If somebody is playing the Japanese "Hello! Pac-Man" how are they going to know the codes are the same for the American "Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures"?  Does goodtools name "Hello! Pac-Man"  as  Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures [J] ?  Even if thats the case wouldnt it be a good idea to keep a game name like "Hello! Pac-Man" on the list because whoever is playing the game might not be using the goodtools naming

I agree with RMM

I would bet that the codes 'could' be different.

RMM that's a very good point, i stated that because i don't want duplicates in the list, so just setting some standard for harvesting the data.

When i have gathered all letters my plan has been to run thru all the names over.
Most people's roms come from goodsnes, and a handful probly scan them with NSRT, wich has some innacuracies fixed.

Gamefaqs is also mostly an american site. there's a handful of japanese games with codes, but with games available in several regions, the rules seems to be "its for usa unless specified"

And no, rom across regions aren't necessarly named the same in goodsnes.

Anyways if i understand correctly, how nes is gonna implement this (correct me if im wrong) is gonna be by parsing the file for game names, then showing you that list on screen. You scroll, pick the game you want the tips, and it shows what's under it in the file.
There is no way to have names matching for every single naming method out there, so i figure just go for the usa names and people can use common sence to browse to "pac-man" if "hello" isn't there.
The only other way to prevent this would be not to rely on games names at all, to instead use stuff like the internal's game checksum (wich zsnes calculates on rom load afaik) and match it directly with the rom being run. To me, it sounds like too much trouble for what it's worth.

Well another way to take care of this would be to put the cheat file in the game zip itself.   Instead of having one big file that you have to worry about matching up with the games you could have a single small text file for each game in its zip which would only pertain to that particular game so there would never be any confusion at all.  Zsnexbox has to parse the zip anway so I wouldnt think it would add any overhead.  You start up the game or are in the middle of playing the game, you hit the cheat menu and the cheat browser pops up with info from that small text file.  It seems to me more could be done in the confines of the zip itself but then again my programming knowledge is limited to BASIC programming so I could be missing something

Hey Xarann
Working on R right now, knew this was going to happen.
Got to Rockman games (Name of Megaman games in Japan).  Should I put the codes under R games.  If one clicks on a Rockman game it takes you to the Megaman page. I guess that the exact same codes will be under M, for Megaman.
I know you were discussing it earlier but I couldn't determine what you ultimatley decided.
Thanks

Well, good idea, but then again, unless the cheat files are named after goodtools AND someone takes the time to write a tool to put them in zips, it means you have to take a few 100's files and drop them in your zips, all by hand.

Not everyone uses zips either, and this would be more or just the same amount of work than taking the name of each and every one of your roms, and putting them in the big file, with zsnexbox matching both like it does with previews.

In the end it's up to nes, there's many ways to do this, but this is the one he suggested so it's why i started working on it....

Yes, when you click on a code, and the name of the game changes, it's because 2 (or more) games link to the same codepage.

Like i said i'll go thru the list by hand when i have all the data, and match it to USA romnames.

Please use the name of the page YOU END UP ON. not the one from the list. If you don't we'll endup with duplicates.
This means if the name of the page you end up on begins with another letter, simply skip it. If it begins with "The", then put it at the end of the game, and add it to your list.

I can edit the list later, but if it has duplicates under 2 completely different names like rockman and megaman it'll be a pain.

I was editing my post as you posted
Also you'll see I've finished U V and R and uploaded
Please see what you think and give feed back so I can edit if necessary.
Will now start T, looks long- might have to leave for work before I'm finished.  If so I'll have it finished by tomorrow night.
